Susan Boyle - The Gift (Christmas album)

Due this October, details still coming in

The last album obviously sold loads, I think this will still do very well albeit not as successful as the first album. Let's hope we get a cover of "All I Want for Christmas is You"

    I predict...
    UK Album Chart - #1
    Billboard 200 - #1
    WITHOUT A DOUBT.

She's a MAJOR PLAYER NOW. I Dreamed A Dream WOULD HAVE sold more then Thriller by now if it was released in 1982 (before bootlegging and illegal downloads). And that's a FACT. AND she would have done it WITHOUT a single music video, any promotion OR seven single releases.

Why not call it 'The Gift (for people you don't like very much)'?

Krisha's right though, those bootlegged Susan Boyle CDs were in hot demand

More likely it was just a success because there are more old people now than there ever have been

Is it definitely a christmas album? RUBBISH, i want another album of lovely ballads to play at my tea dances all year round. I guess it makes sense from a money point of view though, and i can see this easily doing a Josh Groban in the states

I also like the subtle HINT HINT nature of the title.

I'm not sure this will do anywhere near as well as her first record (if I had to guess I'd say it'll do around 33% of its sales), it'll be a case of "one album per artist is enough" for those customers. See "Stars" by Simply Red.

Simply Red were NOT a one-album act... not by a long shot!

This won't perform as well, simply because the first one was a phenomenon, and this is a Christmas album. SO the pressure is kinda off - wise move really.

I think this should easily clear the million mark in the UK, it's just such a typical LAZY Christmas present.

Christmas albums are big business in America, I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the biggest sellers of the holiday period over there...

They should have released it a week or two earlier to take advantage of the US Black Friday sales, and plus we tend to start buying Christmas albums pretty earlier on in November.

The album cover is a little cheap looking but I guess it will do, the last one was very simple and kind of classic looking.

I hate the idea of this, as I genuinely thought they were going to release an album of original songs, considering Who I Was Born To Be was the standout on her debut.

In saying that, I definitely think they should release this a week or two earlier if they want to do big numbers again.

Now Amazon has the album release set as November 15th, I assume it's the following day for the US release.

Massive opening week sales -> Black Friday -> Pre-Christmas sales weeks -> Christmas week / week following post-Christmas buys -> sales orgasm

I don't think it will be as big IDAD, it should do phenomenally for her once again but the fact that it's marketed as a Christmas album it's likely to collapse once January comes

The last one was predominantly a festive seller, was it not? Makes sense to bung out a Christmas album since it's fairly obvious they haven't got a clue what to do with her in terms of original material.

"Gift" is "poison" in German. That's how I'll think of this album.

She came across really really well on Piers Morgan, i thought. Absolutely MENTAL, but in a sweet and way (in regards to her past life).

I hope she can cope with this inevitably not selling quite as well as the last one. I do think it's a bit of a mistake to make it an all out christmas album, really. Surely that limits sales a bit? I'd have maybe bought it for my mum, but HAPPY CHRISTMAS HERE'S AN ALBUM FULL OF CHRISTMAS SONGS THAT YOU'RE PROBABLY ALREADY SICK OF FOR THIS YEAR.

That video is so lovely. Scotland is just stunning and I love that she got to film there. I think her version of the song is easily my favourite ever, it's so haunting.

I do love this youtube quote:

Michty. I thought this was the Trailer for the new Harry Potter film. Never read the last book but I suppose it makes sense that Subo would work for Voldermort.

Poor Harry. How's he going to fight THAT?

It's a nice version but it needs some Heather Small adlibs.

My favourite version is Kirsty Maccoll and Evan Dando's.
