    The Amazing Spider-Man

Great news for Mr Garfield nabbing this job. Boy A and Red Riding showed him to be a really good actor so it's an exciting choice for the studio to make. I was a fan of the Tobey Maguire films anyway so looking forward to this reboot a lot to see what they do with it.

British actor Andrew Garfield is to play comic book superhero Spider-Man in the next outing of the film series, it has been announced.

The 26-year-old, raised in the UK but born in California, will begin work on the new movie in December.

His previous credits include last year's The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus alongside the late Heath Ledger.

Former Spider-Man star Tobey Maguire and director Sam Raimi departed the franchise after making three films.

The new instalment, to be shot in 3D, will focus on the formative years of Peter Parker, the unremarkable youth who - after being bitten by a radioactive spider, is transformed into the superhero.

The movie has yet to be named.

Mark Webb, who will direct Garfield in the film, said of the new star: "Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor's work understand his extraordinary talents.

"He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker."

Spider-Man producer Avi Arad added: "We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future."

Garfield, who was revealed to the press as the new Spider-Man in Cancun, Mexico, has a wealth of British TV roles to his credit.

He won the best actor Bafta in 2008 for his role in hard-hitting Channel 4 drama Boy A.

His other credits include Doctor Who, Sugar Rush and Channel 4's Red Riding trilogy.

Ooh, well done to my Celebrity Stalker (although in truth he either got over me pretty quick, or just became more good at camouflage). he is a tops actor and will be good i think. And i suppose he can be a Hollywood heartthrob if Robert Pattinson has managed it.

This is quite weird though. Is it still a reboot? Because he's pretty old if the things about him being a schoolboy in it is true. But then it's weird to do a origins reboot when the first film showed him becoming Spiderman, and it was in recent memory enough for most of the people watching it in the cinema to have seen it in the cinema too. I know many films are motivated by money, but just sending this one out there now seems particularly cynical.

Oh good lord, the aptly named Marc Webb only has one other film directing credit, and it's 500 DAYS OF SUMMER

Does the franchise REALLY need a reboot quite so soon?

I hate how all these movies are now being intentionally targeted at a much younger market. I'm not loony over the films but thank FUCK for the Batman reboot.

I think this will have a more 'quirky semi-indie film' sensibility a la 500 Days. And I don't mind that at all.

I read a headline on the BBC website saying 'Andrew Garfield is Spider-man.' I was just thinking that he'd done well to keep his identity secret for so long and then I realise it's a film.

This is way too soon for a reboot. And I am not interested without the wondrous K-Dunst.

His fabulous hair there could actually be modelled on one of Blanchett's Elizabeth do's.

He is a tiny little thing in real life, like one of the Riddlers.

    I hope this isn't true -

Anton Yelchin is reportedly in line for the role of Harry Osborn in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

IMDB has listed the Terminator Salvation star as "rumoured" to be taking on the character.

Yelchin was previously reported to be on the shortlist of actors to play Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the movie. The part eventually went to Andrew Garfield.

James Franco starred as Osborn in director Sam Raimi's three Spider-Man films.

Marc Webb is directing the reboot, scheduled for a July 3, 2012 release in US cinemas.
Harry Osborn's in it?! Is it just going to be the exact same plot arcs as the first one, with the exact same characters? I hope Osbourne's dad won't be back. NO NEED

I don't even think Sam Raimi did THAT good of a job first time round. The first one was okay but the rest were woeful.

Had he of used Hobgoblin it'd be a different story.

Harry is as ESSENTIAL as Mary Jane. And of course they will have Norman Osborn - he's Spider-Man's number one enemy. Although I don't think he will be the Green Goblin yet if reports that the Lizard is the big bad are to be believed.

Andrew Garfield makes me a bit sick to look at.

The first one was interesting because it felt like the first 'grown-up' and non-camp reboot of a superhero franchise. But yes, the latter two were fairly humdrum and the third in particular was painfullly dull. And so long!

I've not watched them in a few years, but i fucking LOVED the second one. Definitely my favourite superhero film alongside X Men 2 and Batman Begins. The third one was a massive stepdown though (imo), and the first one was pretty standard i thought.

I didn't realise that the Osbournes were an integral part of Spiderman though, or at least enough to not eject them from a FAR TOO SOON reboot, in order to try and differentiate things a bit. I'm failing to see the point of any of this even less now

Also James Franco > the boy out of Star Trek

OT: i have enjoyed youtubing bits of his recent stint on general hospital I really do LOVE the attitude he has to his career/life.

I'm confused as to why the Spider-Man franchise needs rebooting. Spider-Man 4 would be preferable even if it is an entirely new cast. I can't see anyway of them improving over the 2002 original, but at least Mary-Jane can't be turned anymore annoying than the way Kirsten Dunst played her.

Having said that, they'll probably cast Kristen Stewart in her role.

That is AMAZING. I need to start watch American soap. I didn't realise they were all practically as quasi-dramatic as Dynasty.

From what i can gather without watching them, the US soaps make Eastenders' current "ohh, another murder?" situation seem really quite reserved.

    Spiderman Reboot

So in the next two years have 5 super hero movies coming out, which is all very exciting especially that most of them will be connected through the Avengers movie.

After the disaster that was Spiderman 3 they are re-launching Spiderman, this time as a teenager. Probably based on Ultimate Spiderman which isn't weird since it's the only Ultimate book to survive so far.

The greatest fake president America has ever known just landed a choice role: Uncle Ben in Sony's upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot.

Deadline reports Martin Sheen accepted the part, making him the fourth character cast, alongside Andrew Garfield (Peter Parker), Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) and Rhys Ifans (an unknown villain).

So who's the picture eying to play Aunt May?

Variety -- which also claims Sheen isn't a done deal -- reports an offer is out to Sally Field. And if we can't have Stockard Channing, the "Brothers & Sisters" matriach is more than a suitable choice.

If she is to take them up on their offer, she needs to do it soon. The Marc Webb-directed film goes into production in December, though it won't be released until July 3, 2012.

Directed by Marc Webb, the as-yet-untitled reboot of the film franchise returns the Peter to high school, and is expected to draw inspiration from "Ultimate Spider-Man," by Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley. In addition to Garfield and Stone, "Spider-Man" stars Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Campbell Scott, C. Thomas Howell, Julianne Nicholson and Annie Parisse.

Lets hope this does better than the musical.
