If you're a fan of diminishing returns there's ANOTHER new Royle Family episode on this Christmas Day![]()
What's coming up?
I've seen ads for "The One Ronnie" (not really sure how that's going to work) and I heard on the radio that Lucas & Walliams are doing something (another Little Britain?) but other than that I'm COMPLETELY out the loop.
Is it really so that there isn't a single Wood/Walters/French/Saunders special this year?
I mean I know they always end up as a big disappointment but it's nice to look forward to them...

Lucas and Walliams is actually a new series that starts on Christmas Day, isn't it? I wasn't aware of it until I read an article at the weekend. It's similar to LB, but all set in an airport, or something.
French & Saunders have got 2 or 3 shows on Radio 2 over Christmas, just hosting, I assume. And there's a new radio dramatisation of 'Pat & Margaret' as well, starring Tracy Ann Oberman & Sarah Lancashire: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00wqjb2
oh I really enjoyed the last Royle Family to be honest! I was never a MASSIVE fan to begin with, just always enjoyed it, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one too
Saying all that though, the Nan special is DEVASTATING. Proper amazing Christmas telly, that was...

I never listen to the radio unless it's for music, but that Pat & Margaret thing sounds intriguing
I still to this day insist that Pat & Margaret is the greatest British made-for-TV movie ever made. I mean it's Golden Globes good. They should have submitted it.
I assume you mean the one where Nanna dies, 'The Queen Of Sheba'? That is one of my all time TV highlights. I weep EVERY time it's on (and it's on Gold QUITE A LOT). Yes, the last one certainly wasn't as good as that, but I'm still fairly confident Caroline Aherne will pull it out of the bag. I'm quite convinced she's a genius.

Yeah Sheba. It FLOORED me when I first saw it. It's proper sad.
I agree, it's probably the finest thing they've ever done - I just wish they'd left it there, because the two they've made since have been such a step down. They've succumbed to the old sitcom trap of falling into lazy caricatures, which they'd managed to avoid in Sheba despite the long break since the original series![]()
Aside from the obvious (Poirot, Marple, Doctor Who etc.), not a lot. 'Come Rain, Come Shine' is on ITV1 on the 20th, and stars David Jason but not much else appears to be on drama wise until the new year.
BBC2's Whistle and I'll Come to You looks quite good, a nice one-off ghost story for Christmas.
There's this Victoria Wood written short on Sky1 as part of their 'Little Crackers' : http://sky1.sky.com/Little-Crackers-Victoria-Wood
There's a whole host of others that are potentially interesting; Julia Davis, Dawn French, Stephen Fry & Julian Barratt.
There doesn't seem to be a BIG one off returnee special this year, which is quite sad. I am very excited for:
- Tonight's Misfits one.
- Doctor Who
- The Royle Family
- Giles and Sue live The Good Life
- Miranda
And three of those come either slap bang at the the end of their usual series run, or follow on from Christmas specials we had last year (not that it really matters).
Also i have proper LOVED the last two Royle christmas specials, so much that i think i watched them more than once in the festive week. This year's seems to feature lots of Cheryl and Mary, so extra HOORAY.
Cheryl is back in it?YAY
That'll make do for the little heart sink from when I saw Ralf Little in the trailer. I mean I like the character of Anthony, but Ralf Little REALLY gets on my tits these days.
SO it appears Miss Wood is now everywhere this CHristmas after me saying she wasn't doing anything...
The Angina Monologues is being shown on Sky One tomorrow night and again on Christmas day. Does anyone know anything about it? Was it a play or standup? There are other people in it including Jo Brand and Julia Davis (OMG YAY) so I don't know whether this is a specially recorded version or what.
I'll be TAPING it anyhoo..
I'm looking forward to Charlie Brooker's Review of the Year next Monday.
He best not cop out and fail to address the ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM that is his now unemployable wife.
Yeah BBC2 next Monday I THINK.
He had a full-on rant about Live At Studio Five and Konnie was every bit as shambolic as that.
It's only fair![]()
I saw adverts this morning for a My Family Christmas special and a Royle Family Christmas special.
WooooOOOOOOooooo00000oooooOOOOOOpppppP!!!!!!1 xx

I wouldn't count on it, he seems to do way more Newswipe stuff than Screenwipe stuff, especially this year.
how funny... Jennifer Saunders just confirmed on facebook that there will be an Ab Fab Christmas special next year...
I think the Angina Monologues is stand up funky from what I saw earlier. Looking forward to that - can't be worse than the shit Wood put out last Christmas
Really looking forward to Miranda - I feel Christmas might be when she suddenly makes it HUGE with the masses.
The one 3 years ago of Royle Family was Nana dying wasn't it? That was exceptional tv. Then the one at Denise's for Christmas dinner was BEYOND AWFUL. Then last year's in the caravan was a huge step up. So it really is hit and miss for me at the moment, The Royle Family.
Wood + Davis on one show has to be some degree of amazing surely? I'm definitely going to record it.![]()
Has anybody been bothering with the Little Crackers?
We watched the Tate and Wood ones earlier and they were both quite charming, but ultimately lacking we thought. I did appreciate the Anita Dobson cameo in Tate's one though.
I've got 'em all on series link, but am most excited for the Julia Davis one now.
I've seen a few of them, including the Tate and Wood ones. The rest are in the memory. Yes, quite good but not stellar.
