That looks rather good. Cooke is adding accents to his repertoire alongside arse then.
Hopefully she'll be be better in this than in Upstairs Downstairs.
Sorry for the possibly inappropriate use of the word 'epic' there but I don't know what genre this slots into precisely.
Trailer
Stars Christian Cooke (he of amazing arse fame) and Claire Foy and tells the story of a woman who goes to Israel and embarks on a personal journey after finding her grandfather's old war diary. Or something. Four parter, begins Sunday 6th Feb.

I do feel a bit sorry for Christian Cooke. I mean he gets a part in Echo Beach, IT FLOPS; he gets the lead in Demons, IT FLOPS; he gets the lead in Trinity, IT FLOPS; he gets the lead in Cemetery Junction, IT UNDERPERFORMS (despite being great).
And i'm not quite sure he deserves it. I probably wouldn't queue up to see his Hamlet (n.b. not a euphemism), but i thought he was grand in Trinity and Junction, and i didn't see enough of the others to comment. And he does have a very good arse, it's true.
This doesn't appeal to me massively (i know it's VERY NAUGHTY of me but i know nothing about Israel/Palestine and it really doesn't interest me as a drama setting), but i'll definitely give this a go. I might even learn something. Clare Foy will have to be a LOT BETTER than she was in Upstairs Downstairs if i'm going to manage 4 hours of her though. How she could take one of the few interesting characters in that pile of shit and make no impact whatsoever is still beyond me. BRING BACK CLAIRE GOOSE

I'm probably going to give this a go, it looks quite good, hopefully it doesn't end up being a case of 'less is more' as usually happens with many of these kinds of shows. Time will tell I guess.

I was too sleepy to watch all of this last night (i recorded it innit), but i thought the first 20 minutes or so were REALLY REALLY GOOD. The concentration camp stuff was ridiculously powerful. There really was no beating round the bush with it.
I shall try and watch the rest later. I was a bit 'OH FFS' at the fact that it seems to be in four 1h45m installments (i'd much rather 6 hour-and-a-bit episodes), but it's got off to the best possible start for me to think this might not matter. And i thought Foy and Cooke were GREAT
Oh and ALSO, i absofuckinglutely HATED how the announcer at the start said it was 'the drama everyone was talking about', and then gave out a TWITTER HASHTAG so that people could chat along
I mean FUCK OFF, it's not the shitting x factor. Why can't people just switch off their phones/computers and watch something properly? Is that not the norm anymore? Are we meant to live our whole lives through banal little soundbites for the benefit of other people? URGH

omg! sooo sad :-( #c4thepromise

Sorry to do three in a row, but i've now caught up and i really REALLY liked this. I was absorbed throughout and look forward to part 2. It all flew by as well. God bless channel 4.
Now this was a bit odd. They clearly WANTED us to know, since they had that really obvious shot of the lady looking shifty with her handbag, and then Erin Foy did a fair few big MY SPIDEY SENSES ARE TINKLING type looks, even getting out of the car to get a better view. And there was also the brother saying OH NO I HAVE LEFT MY WALLET ON THE TABLE. He may have well just added I HOPE I DON'T GET BLOWN UP! to that. But still, i really really liked it. And the way it was done was very brutal and still a bit shocking.

I guess I just felt a bit MEH at the whole thing and wasn't really paying enough attention to the small details like that.

I will say this though, both Foy and Cooke were very good, which in both cases was rather shocking.

I know! They were both wonderfully unshowy and got it about right i thought.
She was particularly good at being a normal mopey teenage girl. Normally teenage girl characters are all stylised to be sassy and aspirational, which is daft because in real life they're all SHIT.
Is nobody else bothering now? I am really really enjoying it.
It's somewhat sprawling, but totally engrossing in quite a lowkey way i find. Despite all the bombings.
I am, theoretically, but I missed last weeks because of the Bafta's and have yet to catch up with it. I'm mainly sticking with it because of my not being able to start something and not finish it though as I don't think it's all that good.

I'm really enjoying this. Caught up on the second episode yesterday and I only just realised that the beautiful Omar was the departed Mo-Mo from Nurse Jackie.
