Not one, not two, but THREE Kempe songs!!
The Melodifestivalen tour bus rolls in to Linköping this week and Sweden's 5th biggest city looks set to host what is likely to be one of, if not the toughest heat ever in the history of Melodifestivalen. With a mix of MF favourites, new faces and massive Swedish stars, this week could prove to be DEADLY.
We saw Moopy favourite Sanna Nielsen and rock 'n roll kid Brolle qualify directly for the Final earlier on this evening with Loreen and The Moniker heading off with their tails between their legs to Andra Chansen.
Let's take a look at the 8 artists...
Linda Sundblad - 'Lucky You'
Text och musik - Linda Sundblad, Johan Bobäck, Fredrik Thomander and Anders Wikström
Linda has been kicking round in Sweden now for just over 10 years and has had success with former group Lambretta and also as a solo artist, with hits like 'Oh Father!', '2 All My Girls' and 'Let's Dance' under her belt, she's probably one of Sweden's hottest commodities, having also written songs for several major artists. She's said that the song is an 'up-tempo ABBA throwback' but very much a Linda Sundblad record. Her last album didn't sell particularly well in Sweden despite garnering two Top 10 singles. Will she fall by the wayside? Or will Linda's luck come in?
Simon Forsberg - 'Tid att andas'
Text och musik - Fredrik Kempe
This is Simon's first time in Melodifestivalen and also his very first release outside of the competition. He won Mr. Gay Sweden back in 2010 and was a contestant on Fame Factory back in 2003 but since then he appears to have rested on his laurels. He describes the song as a 'massive Kempe ballad that is more Nordic folklore than Nordic pop'.
Sara Lumholdt - 'Enemy'
Text och musik - Niclas Lundin and Anton Malmberg Hård af Segerstad (Le Kid member)
I think pretty much everyone will know Sara from her time in A*Teens with current MF host, Marie Serneholt. Sara hasn't released anything since the group split but has been working on solo material in the mean time and she hopes this song will launch her career in Sweden. 'Enemy' is described as a 'slice of American pop with a rock twist'. Will she go the same way as songwriter Anton of Le Kid?
The Playtones - 'The King'
Text och musik - Fredrik Kempe and Peter Kvint
This lot are a typical dansband, hailing from Kallinge. They won popular TV show 'Dansbandskampen' back in 2009 and have since had a #1 album. Aside from Kempe, Peter Kvint has written 3 of Andreas Johnsson's 4 MF entries so I'm sure you're all frothing at the urethra over this entry.
Shirley's Angels - 'I Thought It Was Forever'
Text och musik - Robin Abrahamsson, Alexander Bard, Bobby Ljunggren and Henrik Wikström
Quite frankly, I don't even know where to start with this one, so I don't think I'll bother. All you need to know is, Shirley Clamp + two of her pisshead friends + one big ball of gay = TRAINWRECK and I've got FRONT ROW SEATS.
Sebastian - 'No One Else Could'
Text och musik - Andreas Alfredsson Grube and Sebastian Karlsson
Sebastian Karlsson makes his MF return 4 years after 'When The Night Comes Falling' placed 8th in the 2007 Final. This year he's back with a 'big synth-pop' song that is being heralded as one of the catchiest in the competition. He's pretty successful in Sweden and has the advantage of being an Idol alumni. He came second in hist heat back in 2007, can he do even better this time around?
Sara Varga - 'Spring för livet'
Text och musik - Sara Varga and Fredrik Boström
Sara is our second MF debutant in this heat and she hopes that her pleasant guitar pop will win over the Swedish public. She's signed to Roxy Recordings with a few other MF favourites and has already released her debut album with another on the way after the competition. Could she find herself in an Anna Bergendahl situation, being the only artist with a song of its kind in a busy heat?
Eric Saade - 'Popular'
Text och musik - Fredrik Kempe
The shining star of MF2010 makes a surprise comeback after only managing 3rd place despite being the overwhelming fan favourite. He's promised this song could break internationally and he believes this year, is his year. After a massively successful debut album and a sell-out Swedish tour, can he be stopped this year? Or is it too soon?
That's your lot then for this week, here's the odds (again, this is to win the whole shebang!)...
Eric Saade - 4/1
Simon Forsberg - 25/1
Sebastian Karlsson - 25/1
The Playtones - 33/1
Shirley's Angels - 33/1
Linda Sundblad - 33/1
Sara Varga - 33/1
Sara Lumholdt - 66/1
Anyone willing to make a prediction for this week? I think it's going to be RATHER TOUGH.
Not one, not two, but THREE Kempe songs!!
Why should I care what they say?
Just want them out of my way
‘Cause I’m the king of my own life

If Eric doesn't win this year then he never will. It's his to lose.

Eric and Shirley are the ones I'm most looking forward to.
What's confusing? We just find the heart of the prison and the dragon who speaks without walls, and we're home free. Simple.
There are going to to be SO MANY LEMONFACES on Saturday night. Should be top notch entertainment.![]()
Nothing to see here MOVE ALONG.
Popular must be a pretty awful song for Eric not to win this heat I think.

If this isn't the BEST head, I can't help. What a massive line-up of songwriters.
I'd say Babsan.
ERIC
We can all dream.

Eric Saade is such a little twink ratboy. There is nothing less attractive than teenage boys (that goes for you too DARIN)

What about OLA![]()
'Sue, did the President call?' ... 'No' Last.fm
Someone got it BANG ON about him a few weeks back, he looks like the kid in school who really smells and needs 'extra help' with his work.
Are these GROSS INJUSTICES being levelled at Eric?
Anyway, I'm VERY much looking forward to this heat![]()
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Thanks to schlagerfiasko.nu for the image!
OH MY FUCKING LIFE
Shirley's head looks (BADLY) photoshopped onto a completely different body.
Is there ANY CHANCE this could qualify? I need to see this shit at Globen!
I've not even heard the song yet, but this shit makes me LOVE Shirley where I've always been a bit ambivalent before. What a good sport!
Shirley has such a good sense of humour about herself and her career - always has done.
I wish I could find that classic interview with her.
"Why are you re-entering Melodifestivalen"
"Well, I came 8th last time, so it can't get any WORSE!"

I've always liked SHIRL and the fact that she doesn't take herself seriously at all has always been a huge plus too. That's why I never got the "SMUG SMUG SMUG" comments before - I WANT a WINK on Saturday night
Her working the tills in the supermarket a few years back was COMEDY GOLD.
I can see where RB gets it from in terms of her performances. She clearly thought she had it in the BAG in 2005At the end of her finals performance she even shouts out "Jag gråter även nu!" (I'm already crying!).
Mostly I think she just gets overexcited though, bless her. Hence her fabulously unpredictable vocals.
Yeah, she's always taken this piss out of herself offstage and I've ALWAYS liked that persona. But her 2005 performance was RANK. Just horrible. As was 2009... I love watching it back and seeing what's going through her mind, knowing the fate that awaits. It's just smug beyond belief.
I'm just glad that's she's realised what we want and is now taking the piss out of herself ON STAGE too.

The heats performance of Att Älska Dig is one of the best MF performances I've ever seen. No wonder she won by miles.
The finals, not so much.

The semi-performance in 2005 was her best vocal at the competition FULL STOP.
The final-performance, well, let's say she got a bit CARRIED AWAY.
Nothing to see here MOVE ALONG.
It's all part of the JOY of SHIRL though
"att ÄLSKA dig!
DEN DU ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄRRRRRRRR" *veers ever more wildly off key while opening mouth wide enough to swallow the entire globen stadium*

so manymoments to the latter that i'd forgotten
Rolf: So you'll have to explain to me Caroline, what is this Hip Hop music all about?
Caroline Wennegren: Well, you'll have to ask someone else because I perform jazz music.
Rolf: Jazz? Christ, in this competition that's the equivalent of asking Big Brother contestants to spell their Christian name. So how does it feel to be here?
Caroline: Nerve-wracking...you don't want to embarrass yourself in front of 4 million people.
Rolf: I'd think of it like this: there are 5 million people who won't be watching, and they'll be the better half of the population.

Rolf Nygard was SO SO MEAN.
I LOVED IT![]()

and Shirley Clamp for me is the ultimate in desperate MF stars, so she'll never be smug in my eyes. From the sheer tenacity shown to get "Min Karlek" to second place in 2004 (a REAL feat when you think about it - only "Snalla Snalla" has followed suit in terms of indirectly qualifying finalists getting that high, and having their song designated 'classic' status), to the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink methodology of the awful "Att Alska Dig", to most recently the failed attempts at both sexiness and dignity in "Med Hjartat Fyllt Av Ljus"
She's a real pal of Christer's to have gotten to make fun of herself in that supermarket video...

Stop the world now. I need to find a way to watch this on Saturday. This is going to change lifes.
