the desktop looks shit to be honest. DO NOT WANT![]()
Most of the details can be found here http://www.apple.com/macosx/lion/ with video about halfway down.
Looks like much more of an update than Snow Leopard was which was just an excuse for people to get Leopard for about £15.
I’m not really sure of bringing the iPad functions to a MacBook mainly because I don’t use the trackpad in the way the video shows, but then I never thought i’d get used to two finger scrolling (i love you) and two finger “right click” (love you more than an actual right-click button).
The apps thing looks OKish and at least it’s optional. Glad there’s an update for Mail. I don’t really get Mission Control. Isn’t it just Expose?
Autosave, resume, and versions all look like proper stellar additions. I hope autosave and versions are linked to the cloud
There’s a video here http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...es.html&page=2 of the new finder layout.

yes the Launchpad is the desktop swipe. it's an app so you don't have to have it
you swipe three fingers left or right to go back and forth in your browser, Finder etc (unless you're on an older model of course)

I also use four finger swipes to do Expose/see desktop
Yeah I’m on an older model so I guess this mean multi-touch functions will be available for everyone who upgrades to lion?
I’m going get a band spanking Quad Core i7 Pro in May from da US![]()

So this will only be available through the App store in July for around £20.
Lots of new feature although nothing OUTSTANDING but I do like the look of versions, autosave, airdrop (which lets you share files to other macs without a Wi-Fi network) and resume.

Oh and also the swipe direction is changing. I never realised this but if you want to move a page up on an iPhone you "push" the page up on the screen on a trackpad you swipe down. This is going to be reverted so it's the same as an iPhone. But it can be changed from the default.

I loaded up a webpage on my iPhone and pushed it up while swiping down on the trackpad on the MacBook at the same time. It got awfully confusing.
But I imagine it will be one of those things that you'll adapt to in a matter of minutes. Only problem is when you go to another laptop

This is out tomorrow apparently
4GB download![]()
”Go around, we're recreating a faux pas'”
The Australian apple site is still saying it will be available 'In July'. I'm assuming we'll get it Thursday? Not that it matters as it will probably be left on to download overnight anyway.
It's here! *dies*

Oh I think this is absolutely beautiful. The full screen apps works wonderfully and the swiping between them it just what you would expect. It's a massive change over Snow Leopard and it's taking time to get used to a few things but for £20.99 it's a complete steal. It even does iPhone type spell checking presenting alternate words if you've spelt one wrong! YAY! Spotlight is even better and you get a preview when you hover over each individual item and play music and video from spotlight.
There's a few functions I'm not sure of because I haven't really used them. Versions/auto save etc. but I'm really impressed with what I've seen so far.

I think I'll wait till some reviews are in but it definitely sounds promising!
The only problem is that it likes to display thumbnails of EVERYTHING. While obviously very intuitive and makes it easy for the user it does mean that I seem to have porn popping up LEFT, RIGHT AND CENTRE! And the restore thing means that if you have a porno open, close quicktime down and reopen quicktime the porno will open automatically unless you close the window before you close the application. But then I don't think they had a rampant porn watchers in mind when designing it.
”Go around, we're recreating a faux pas'”
and concerning the thumbnails, the only thing I miss from Windows is the option to make a folder hidden
The 'natural' scrolling had me all confused. I've had to change it back to how it was before, as I felt like I was living in a mirror universe
*grows goatee and becomes evil*
Other than that I haven't had much time at all to have a play.
I've stuck with the scrolling and getting used to it. It makes sense in theory but it's going to be 'mare when I use another computer.
I think it's more of a natural evolution than a total change. It's just full of lovely touches. I like the spelling thing and tapping three fingers over any word brings up a definition right there without opening dictionary.
”Go around, we're recreating a faux pas'”
Yeah. For me it's automatically off
”Go around, we're recreating a faux pas'”
where the fuck is my three finger swipe that takes me to the top/bottom of a page when browsing? fuck off Mission Control
I didn't even know three fingers did that! Mine always did expose or show desktop for swipe up/down. The swipe setting are in the trackpad System Prefs.

Were you not a big user of Expose then? I had mine all on hot corners so I've always been used to the in and out of applications. I think it's still one of the best features they ever put in. You can dart about to what you want at such a pace I find invaluable when I'm doing uni assignments and have multi-apps and windows open.
”Go around, we're recreating a faux pas'”
I use expose but I fail to see how the two differ... ?
This is all of Expose together!

I like how you can old a key down and it gives you the character variations. Now I can do Percé dead easy![]()

This seems like an appropriate place to ask what will no doubt be a SILLY question. I'm getting a MBP in the next week or so. What's the best way to transfer over my iTunes library. I have all the mp3s have onto an external HD but it's not really the same.
Are you using Time Machine?
”Go around, we're recreating a faux pas'”
I can potentially do that but I haven't really bothered since it takes ages to back-up. If I do a full back-up can I access it on another Mac?
Yeah. It's deffo worth it. When you get your new Mac it will ask if you want to restore from Time Machine and you choose what you want (Documents, Music, Photos, Applications etc) transferred over.
