It looks like a supplier of Clinton Cards is going to take steps to put Clintons into administration.

GOOD RIDDANCE
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
I can't believe they've kept going as long as they have. Nothing says I despise you quite like a Clinton card.
I hate cards and I resent buying them, but my mum LOVES a good verse and gets really upset if she doesn't get one for her birthday/Christmas even if she gets a lovely thoughtful present instead/as well.
It makes me so frustrated. They're SHIT. I always throw mine out as soon as whoever has given it to me has left.
*dead inside*
I don't mind cards at all (although I am pretty much with you on them being a waste of time), I just like nice ones.
I also prefer unexpected ones. Birthday and Christmas cards are more of a pain to send than a pleasure to receive.
I am totally with that, and my Mum is completely the same, she always wants a card for her birthday/Christmas, to the point where she asks me if I've sent it yet. It's the thing I always leave until last on pretty much any occasion, mainly because I do think that writing "To..." and "Love from..." either side of a pre-printed verse is the least interesting thing you could ever give someone.
If you're REALLY into that sort of thing, there are loads of shops that do what Clinton's do for a quarter of the price. In fact, I quite like my annual Card Factory experience, mainly because around Christmas if you stand at the front of the shop the aisles are SO close together and there is so much seasonal CRAP on display that bar the occasional head/body bobbing through a mire of cheap TAT, you don't know exactly where you're going which makes it vaguely interesting.
A poorer version of Cintons (if thats at all possible)
Nina Nannar knits knickers in Neasdon
Please buy my stuff, I do crazy bag discount
The prices in some of these stores slay me.
£7 for A FOLDED OVER SHEET OF CARD WITH A SHITTY POEM? Are you HAVING A LAUGH?
Sales of Yankee Candles set to PLUMMET.
Paperchase & Scribbler are far more pleasant shopping experiences.
Card Factory is great
Their bags say "if it's the thought that counts, why do others charge so much?" Well QUITE.
I am rather fond of Paperchase, though I'd be lying if I said a great portion of the appeal in sending a card from there wasn't the "Check me out, I'm so QUIRKY" element
Card Factory is fantastic. Yeah it's full of generic cards, Card Factory just does them at a third of the price of Clintons/WHSmith/random supermarket
I like Paperchase but it's FUCKING PRICEY
Now you have to take out a MORTGAGE to buy a POSTAGE STAMP whither the FUTURE for GREETING CARD EMPORIA?
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
I bought my sisters card for her wedding from Card Factory. It was pretty obvious where it came from compared to the rest. It was only 69p and I needed the other £3 I had on me to pay for parking.

”Go around, we're recreating a faux pas'”
... but the nice young men with the podgy faces told us we were out of recession![]()
Top up, Sue?
The economy is hot and it's cold, it's yes and it's no, it's in and it's out, it's up and it's down.
Jessops DEAD (probably).
http://www.itv.com/news/2013-01-09/j...ualty-of-2013/
By the end of today Jessops, which has been on our high streets since 1935, is likely to be in administration, the first big name to go under in 2013.
The company has battled off hard times before, avoiding administration in 2009 when they did a deal with their lenders to stay afloat.
But now a combination of our growing habit of snapping and sending pictures on our mobile phones, and tough trading conditions on the high street, appears to have beaten them.
As ever with administrations, a buyer could be found for part, or even all of the business. But it is unlikely that even under the best case scenario, all of the more than 1,000 jobs and 200 or so stores will be saved. Indeed in recent months, some shops have already been closing.
The firm's former chief executive, Trevor Moore, who is now trying to save HMV, had been credited with turning the business around. But evidently, the changes that he made did not go far enough.
And even for successful businesses, there is no sign of the grim conditions changing.
The boss of Sainsbury's, Justin King, who revealed very healthy results this morning, told me he sees no sign of customers having any more to spend, or evidence that the economy is beginning to turn around.
He says the supermarket has been able to grow for a striking 32 quarters in a row because they have been quick to respond to customers' behaviour.
Their significant growth in online shopping and smaller shops on the High Street are an important part of the reason why they have stayed ahead of the pack. But also too is their use of data that tracks our behaviour through Nectar Cards.
Like Tesco, (which reports tomorrow) and crucially unlike Morrisons whose results were disappointing this week, their loyalty scheme allows them to track customers habits and then target them accordingly with vouchers and special offers.
King repeated his call to the government to suspend employers' national insurance payments for a year for new staff, believing that could snap the economy out of the doldrums.
Yet without big changes there is little that will ease conditions for successful businesses, and nothing to provide much comfort for those who are battling to stay in the game. And while Jessops may be the first casualty of 2013, they are unlikely to be the last.
That's a shame. I lost my digital camera in Baku and have been using my iPhone ever since, whilst the iPhone is decent enough for daytime snaps, the flash is SHIT so any photos in a bar/nightclub whatever come out a horrible colour. Plus there is no zoom, so until they improve the cameras in phones, I am still with digital cameras all the way.
I'm GLAD they've gone. They treated a friend of mine TERRIBLY and I hold VERY PERSONAL GRUDGES FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER
Isn't it about time we changed the thread title, by the way?
It's been too long, it's been too long...
PLAY.COM just announced too.
Probably deserves it's own thread due to it being a fairly major online retailer and with its affiliate links on here. Not entirely surprising however because of the closure of the Jersey tax loophole.
omgies shampoo are totes cool when i was 17 back in 94 i totally wanted to be them even tho i was boy. but now i'm a girl so it all worked out alright really!
