    shocked

The single is called RUNAWAYS and we hear it next tuesday (July 10). I hope it will be as perfect as Runaway by The National, but with all the added power and greatness that an extra 's' can bring. They've had it since oh nine, apparently.

Of my favourite returning music acts this year i'm only really worried about these guys. The single art makes me fear some sort of 70s esque dad/glam rock but i SURE HOPE I'M WRONG -

I wish pop! would take me off ignore

SO SO EXCITED. Look at this description, my ears are ready and waiting -

A small-town drama of epic-scale proportions, Runaways is everything you could wish for from a Killers comeback single; an unmistakably American expression of romance and optimism that heralds their return with cyclonic, Who-esque guitars and a chorus big enough to be bellowed from one end of the Mojave to the other.
Yes please. More about the album here: http://ohkillers.tumblr.com/post/265...born-biography

I've got these little soldiers followed by the Bloc Party comeback single the very next day. They surely can't BOTH drop a Timebomb on me.

Hmm. I don't quite know what to think AS OF NOW

It does seem a bit safe/default mode though.

It's quite CROSSFIRE-Y but I already found myself quite liking it during the first listen. Builds up NICELY.

    I've given up FOR NOW

I was quite slow up on the uptake with a lot of my favourite Killers songs though (Human, Dustland Fairytale, a lot of Sam's Town springs to mine) so i'm not majorly worried, although nothing has sounded quite this CREATIVELY BANKRUPT (i guess if i used that phrase for Muse i have to use it for this lot) and SAFE to me on first listens.

Do you have a Bloc Party verdict yet?

God knows how this will sound by year's end, and I'm not sure it would get anywhere near my ipod if it wasn't THEM, but I do like it. That glam-rock meets Springsteen sound is just not where I expected them to go.

The "Springsteen-influenced stuff is their best, really. I mean just look at Sam's Town - TRIUMPH.

After two listens I'm not liking it much.

There's nothing to NOT LIKE about it, I suppose. It's just The Killers going through the motions and this isn't going to bring any sort of resurgence for them. Let's hope the album is better.

The video's ok but not terribly exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing them live but they're going to be totally overshadowed by BATSHIT BELLAMY as far as I'm concerned. SORRY BDON.

What's confusing? We just find the heart of the prison and the dragon who speaks without walls, and we're home free. Simple.

    mad

Runaways is BREAKING MY HEART. I keep trying to force myself to like it because y'know it's the DONE THING and there is the odd moment when it almost works for me, but overall it's just not happening. It has got me right back into "Crossfire" though, so that's a silver lining.

I did also listen to little bits of the new songs on youtube (no leaks, just stuff from the first few shows if anyone fancies a gander) and it got me feeling much less nervous about Battle Born. It really sounds like there could be a couple of (imo) Killers Classics coming.

Oh and ALSO, the vegetarian activist side of me does NOT appreciate the leather jacket. It's like he's trying to bait us now, after the Day and Age campaign saw him turning up everywhere with a STAG'S HEAD and feathery epilettes. I bet moonbaby's spitting mung beans. We should send him some leaflets.

I LIKE Runaways but I don't find myself PLAYING IT very often.

Cannot wait to hear "Swallow It" live in September though

I've just heard Runaways for the first time and I must say that although it does sound very safe for them I do rather like it

If my calculations are correct (they probably won't be), then their 90 minute Sunday night V Fest set should be starting on this live stream in the next hour or so:

Maybe he's learned his lesson and it's pleather. I quite like the song, I really like the album cover, I don't like the video and I really need to listen to Springsteen because things that are influenced by him tend to be good but I am completely ignorant to his work

I have decided that Runaways is in fact absolutely fantastic and has been climbing up the rankings of my favourite tracks from the band which currently stands at:

    1 A Dustland Fairytale
    2 Runaways
    3 Mr Brightside
    4 Bones
    5 When You Were Young

    6 Read My Mind
    7 Somebody Told Me
8 Smile Like You Mean It
    9 Human
    10 Tranquilize

I still hate it more than i even hate myself . But omg, the album is out three weeks tomorrow! I'm still beside myself with (CAUTIOUS) excitement.

In the meantime, my (rather obvious and singles heavy) KILLERS TOP TEN:

    1. Mr Brightside
    2. When You Were Young
    3. Somebody Told Me
    4. All These Things That I've Done
    5. Smile Like You Mean It (a HIGH CLIMBER)
    6. Read My Mind
    7. Spaceman
    8. Human
    9. A Dustland Fairytale
    10. Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine

n.b. if this were a KILLERS AND SOLO BRANDON top ten then Crossfire would be at number 7 currently

And that V live stream was an utter shambles and an utter heartbreaker. it kept saying UP NEXT... THE KILLERS! for ages and ages, and then just when they must have been getting on stage it just casually switched to FOR CLEARANCE REASONS WE CANNOT SHOW YOU THE KILLERS SOZ. The absolute fuckers - did NOBODY at C4/V think to CHECK BEFORE?!

Here's a sweet interview with Brandon and My Name Is Earl + my killers top two being performed though -

I'll have a trawl through youtube to see if there's any other tv stuff. I do wish there was an option to switch off shitty camera phone recordings of gigs when searching.

"Runaways" has grown on me a bit but still unimpressed on the whole.

*Does top ten as well to remind myself that they're normally amazing*

    1. When You Were Young
    2. All These Things That I've Done
    3. Jenny Was a Friend of Mine
    4. Mr. Brightside
    5. Read My Mind
    6. Losing Touch
    7. Spaceman
    8. Smile Like You Mean It
    9. The World We Live In
    10. On Top

A controversial number 9 there, POP!. *twitches* Where's Pipo to log on and make it his number 1?

On Top is a slightly odd one in the sense that i never play it by itself, but curiously find myself absentmindedly singing it more than pretty much any other killers song.

God i love pretty much EVERYTHING about Hot Fuss (U.S. Edition). WHAT an ALBUM

There's not a single flaw on Hot Fuss, I even like the mopey "Everything Will Be Alright" (an almost-precursor to Jark's mantra?).

Sam's Town is just less memorable IMO. I listen to Day & Age more often even though it doesn't have anything close to one of the greatest songs of all time "When You Were Young"

I didn't know "The World We Live In" was particularly disliked, I always found it uplifting.
