An album with that name would be tolerable but NO as a moniker/persona etc.
Marina & The Diamonds - Electra Heart (Second Album)
Based on her recent tweets, I think it's safe to say she's either coming back with this album under the moniker of 'Electra Heart' or the single/album is called that or based on a persona around it.
Either way, CRINGEEEEEEEEE.
An album with that name would be tolerable but NO as a moniker/persona etc.
An album name yes (and please hurry), please no persona shit.
I have sold my soul, I have changed beyond recognition + I have sold out tooI am so happy though. I have done everything I said I wouldn't. And am glad I did b/c I'm not a class A bitch anymore.I can't even tell when she's tweeting with a sense of irony anymore. Everything's veiled in such a thick layer of cunt.Oh who am I kidding. OF COURSE I STILL AM! A TINY TINY BIT
She looks an ABSOLUTE STATE at the moment too. She must love her life as a dickhead:

Oh dear.
Popjustice was tweeting about her 'amazing new single' the other day. Is there any news yet?
Gloss rhymes with hair!
Oh MARINA. Just dreadful.
I'm hoping for some really tremendous new material to help me forget everything else.
OMG how can you uglify yourself to that extent? Going blonde is a ticket to hotness for some people, but clearly one must exert caution if very DARK. She looks like Bjorkle. Moonface-tastica.
And I have to say I quickly went off her. That last record showed a lot of potential and a talent, but ultimately too twee and grating. For me, Hollywood towered over the rest of it and it's really shocking it wasn't a top 5 hit, I've saw chavs singing it in the street. The OMG you look just like Shakira seems to be well known and should've been the pop culture phrase of the year.
One music rag, Mojo I think, called her the most fame obsessed singer since Lady Gaga in their album review, which is pretty dead on. Nothing wrong with that, but she wants it too badly and is coming off as desperate.
Right we've got a first preview of an album track called 'Fear and Loathing'
Nothing to see here MOVE ALONG.
I have no idea what to make of that. On one hand, I like the beginning and first verse, all moody/atmospheric, slightly electronic. But then it careers off into the upper register wailing.![]()
I WILL GET REAL GRIMEY. I WILL START CUTTIN' UP CLOTHES.
I LOVE THIS....i don't think it's descends into wailing at all, it keeps that nice atmosphere all along and i like that it's a different sound from the first album.
She also looks stunning in that video. The only problem is the discription under the youtube video but i choose to ignore that.
She was always a GOOSE HONKING bitch but that write-up on Popjustice complete with THAT quote takes things to an ENTIRELY new level. Can you get LOST IN SHOWBIZ after one semi-hit single?
As a POP CHAMELEON she's hardly NATALIA KILLS.
I quite like the song although it's hardly a big change in terms of progression.
You'd think she'd created The Godfather Trilogy or written The Lord of The Rings the way she's harping on about her 'throwback monologues'.
The song is quite nice but I really couldn't bring myself to read that Popjustice interview.
The good news:
1) "Electra Heart" is not an alias/persona. Well, not as such.
2) She's learned how to make a striking video on no money (this must have been even cheaper than the rotten "Shampain" video).
3) The song is beautiful, intimate darkpop of the type that really only she can do. But it is painted in softer, more delicate hues that before - I like the progression.
4) Popjustice - Some of your moaning fans are going to go fucking mental!
M - Probs! But writing to your fanbase is the worst thing you can do, so I’m never going to do that.
I see...
The bad news:
1) I am not liking the sound of next Monday's installment from the Popjustice interview. Whilst this clashes with 4) above, I retain my doubts. I love that Damon Albarn doesn't pander to his audience either but some of his stuff is crap as well....
Anyway, fuck off Moopy and quit yer whining. Go and be artificailly queeny about someone else.

Marina-loon octy is my favourite octy I think.
But yes, I quite like as well as a teaser. It's interesting to say the least.
Nothing to see here MOVE ALONG.
She's so easy to hate these days but that new song really is fucking CORKINGIt's a shame I have to divorce the persona from the music these days, but I'm definitely interested in hearing more.

Ps. Are we sure the album's called Electra Heart? I reckon as much but it's not confirmed yet, is it?
Nothing to see here MOVE ALONG.
She says in the Popjustice interview that she doesn't know yet, mainly because the album's not finished.

Good. Because I thought I had missed out on something crucial when I was splitting threads. But I reckon Electra Heart can stay in the title - in the end it is the name she's bandying about herself the most thus far.![]()
Nothing to see here MOVE ALONG.
I am edgy about the Electra Heart thing - the number of people who have successfully adopted an alias/persona/character can be counted on one of David Bowie's fingers and I have severe doubts that M can double the numbers.

i thought it was confirmed...i doubt anyone would allow her to release the album under an alias, the worst case scenario is that she will use it in her rants and gigs.
I like the song, I like the moody tones and the atmosphere it creates. The video is nice too (although the cutting her hair bit is almost the same as of another music video from donkeys years ago).
Can't wait to hear more. Hopefully she can make more of an impact with her second album. I believe she absolutely deserves success (more than dullfest Ellie Goulding anyway).
The single just premiered, this thread needs moving to dance + electronica this instant. She's gone for a Calvin Harris/Example-style sound!
Here it is:
Hmm... I don't think the sound suits her voice at all.
Gloss rhymes with hair!
NOT what I expected. Have yet to decide whether that's a good thing or not.
Nothing to see here MOVE ALONG.
I LIKE IT!
I WILL GET REAL GRIMEY. I WILL START CUTTIN' UP CLOTHES.
Hmm it's as catchy as they come but I'm not sure I like it for a Marina song, I'll listen a few more times and decide.

The video is great, the song not so much. I've got no problem with her dabbling with commercial material but if you do, it has to be top-notch and the chorus just isn't strong enough to lift the song where it's so close to being.
first i'd like to say how surprised i am she's back so quickly - i did not see that coming and just assumed she'd do a little boots
in other news i quite like the first track
the second has yet to grow on this diamond - it's more oh no than obsessions and what can i say, i'm an obsessions kind of guy
the best song wasn't a single
I want another Obsessions from this album, even if it's synthed off its tits![]()
I think that's bloody MARVELLOUS
I imagine Octophone is weeping into his commemorative Marina TEA TOWEL right now though![]()
I like it quite a lot on first listen, though I'm not convinced going this route will prove any more successful for her.
Heh heh...
This is exactly what I *feared* she had done from that Popjustice interview - made an all-out pop record in order to make some sort of comment about all-out pop records. It's better than anything, say, The Saturdays have done (and I like The Saturdays) but her personality is sulking quietly in the background, under an ill-fitting blonde wig. The lyric has all her usual insecurity and insight into that insecurity but it feels far too distant from the music. I'm kinda hoping this is a radio remix or something but it isn't, is it?
I'm not massively concerned because I still think the first part was beautiful and it is a good pop record (not a great one tho') but I am not in any way convinced by this Electra Heart gubbins.

Third listen and I still think it's shit
Not totally overwhelmed by the first track either. WHY have you foresaken me Marina
Oh lordy, will the bubble of this mind-numbing 'dance' trend in mainstream pop EVER burst? I'm patiently waiting for the 2011 equivalent of Ethel Merman to kill this fad stone cold.
Without the second-rate 'Only Girl (In The World)' beat drowning it out, the acoustic version is rather more pleasing. I'm just going to pretend this is the main version.
Personally, I ADORE it.
I WILL GET REAL GRIMEY. I WILL START CUTTIN' UP CLOTHES.
Love both versions now, somehow she's become one of my favorite artists over the course of the last year and a half, the family jewels still gets at least a spin or two every other week.
