I like the "baby I'm in LOOOOOOVE" bits, but overall it's very weak. I'm glad it never got a proper single release as it would have been a big flop IMO.
The single-that-never-was, 'Baby Don't Dance' was originally rumoured for release in early-2002 although once Steps announced their split, that plan fell through. Release plans were later resurrected later in the year for the release to accompany 'The Last Dance' (although the W.I.P. Mix from the album had now been dubbed over the Gold Tour performance to act as a video). Promotional copies of the single were distributed but ultimately the single was never released.
At the time I was quite underwhelmed when I first heard it on 'Gold', but I think it sounds pretty good these days - it's certainly my preferred 70's disco-pop Steps track of choice over 'Stomp'. I think it was pretty evident that the whole thing was becoming a bit laboured by this point, and after the sheer lunacy of 'Chain Reaction' it didn't quite have that reinvigorated FUN about it, but I wouldn't have minded it as a single...

S'alright but nothing SPECIAL.
Funny you mention "Stomp"...I always found it a bit "MEH" but I've quite enjoyed it these PAST FEW WEEKS![]()
It's been too long, it's been too long...
I've never been a fan, when I'm listening to Gold I almost always skip it. It comes off even worse when you compare it to the magnificent Chain Reaction.
'Sue, did the President call?' ... 'No' Last.fm
It's pretty poor. Would definitely have been my least favourite single had it been released.
I did make a small fortune selling CD single copies of it on ebay back in the day though, so for that I am truly grateful to Baby Don't Dance.
Would've stopped their run of top 5 hits so I'm very glad it wasn't relesed (WANEnough came close enough to doing that). Out of the four new songs for Gold, only Chain Reaction was worthy. This, like the other two, was okay and all but it was a bit TIRED.
