    Revenge

    THIS IS DELICIOUS.

The basic premise is that Amanda Clarke was a young girl living in the Hamptons (super wealthy area outside of New York) when her father was framed for a dreadful crime by his neighbours and colleagues in order for the real culprits to get off. The woman at the heart of the conspiracy was Victoria Grayson who was tied in with Amanda's father professional and personally.

Amanda is locked up in a juvenile detention centre until she gets emancipated at the age of 18, finds out her father (who she had naturally assumed was guilty) has died in prison, left her a fortune as well as a letter detailing what happened to him and who was responsible. She returns to the Hamptons with a new identity and begins embarking on a revenge plan against everybody who was involved in what happened to her father, specifically Victoria.

Emily Van Camp is quite a revelation as Emily Thorne (Amanda's alias) who seems to have no moral compass whatsoever and is consumed by her need for revenge, and Madeleine Stowe is WONDERFUL as Victoria, who is a real superbitch in every respect. It's all quite soapy and campy in parts but it's also very well written and acted, probably the best new show of the year so far. Airs Wednesdays on ABC in America.

    Any fans?

Well you know I'm a fan and agree with most everything said above. It's brilliantly written and Emily and Madeline both bring amazing performances in it. Their scenes together are the best things about the show.

I do like the idea of having a new 'victim' each week, but it might get a little boring after a while. Thankfully everyone she's dealing with are very unpleasant people, especially Bill Harmon, God was I glad when she got her revenge on him.

I was never a fan of Emily Van Camp in Brothers & Sisters, but this does sound quite ME. I'll give it a go.

I still think the best 'revenge' was how she dispatched of Lydia during the pilot episode and the business with the original Van Gogh Victoria really landed a verbal SMACKDOWN at that party, it was like having exclusive access to a VIP party. That's definitely part of the APPEAL. But beyond the soap elements there is also an emotional undercurrent which keeps it layered and interesting.

Ringer seems to be getting a VERY EASY RIDE online purely because it's SMG's comeback vehicle and ignoring the fact that the sets are cheap, the characters largely boring, the acting questionable (SMG included) and the plot completely implausible... I like it to pass an hour of boredom but it's certainly no great shakes

Oh i might give this a shot now that it's been picked up for a full season, something fun and mindless to pair with AHS on Thursday.

I just started watching it - in fact I was about to post a thread about it just now.

It's fantastic! And can we get a QOL for Emily?

Is this thread all one big joke?

Do you all genuinely like it?

It was SO bad. Emily Van Camp was as much of a VOID as ever, Madeleine Stowe was nowhere near as fabulous as that part needed to be, it looked like it was filmed in the mid 90s, the dialogue was APPALLING, it was slow and just generally low quality. Like a charmless Sunset Beach.

Maybe it suffered from watching it directly after the first episode of the wonderful American Horror Show, but I was bored out of my mind.

i still haven't watched this but as advice don't get your hopes up for AHS, yes it's highly stylized campy show but it's just that there's no substance. Also the acting on AHS isn't really that great, as much as i find Dylan McDermot hot he is extremely wooden.

The acting on AHS was great. Certainly not even comparable to this load of old tosh.

I don't know what you wanted but she plays the role to perfection. She IS the reserved and super-steely society queen who EXUDES authority and superiority.

She most certainly was not. She was like a daytime soap actress on PROZAC and on AUTO-PILOT.

You weren't wrong Jark, what an episode. Madeline's vitriolic final chat with Lyida was fabulous, ''Everytime we hug, the warmth you feel is my HATRED burning through''. God I love her so much, what a fabulous bitch. There was SO MUCH going on in general though, lots of new and very interesting stuff being dropped in, like the stuff with Frank/Lydia.

I hope we can see the back of Tyler soon though, he's far too smarmy and cocky to be any fun as a shit stirrer.

Though to be fair RB's criticisms are fairly accurate, at least regarding Victoria. Her face is completely static and she only ever speaks in monotone. For me that only adds to my enjoyment of her character.

Another week, another FABULOUS eppie. Okay, it was a bit light on the QOL moments but I loved it when Emily took gay fratboy down at the dinner table

I've been thinking and I reckon Tyler is not just gay but also trying to BE Daniel/take over his life, Talented Mr Ripley STYLE. Which is quite a POTENTLY PSYCHOTIC MIX.

I definitely got that impression last night, certainly with his trying to worm his way in with QoL Victoria. On that note, Victoria goes from strength to strength, GOOD GOD WHAT POSESSED HIM was obviously the line of the episode, it just rolled off the tongue in the most fabulous way.

I like how things aren't entirely going Emily's way now too, regarding the Frank thing.

Oh i quite like this, it's fun and it knows what it is so it doesn't try too hard. Lydia is my favorite character, the way she fought Frank was amazing and i really hope she wakes up soon and comes back to terrorize Victoria. Madeleine Stow is ok but the plastic face is quite distracting.

i do worry that this will end up being like Gossip Girl, one great season and then it will get muddled once they solve the main revenge storyline.

Also i forgot to mention how much i despise the British party planner/girlfriend/social climber, one of the worst characters on TV.

    God this is good.

It's all about Madeleine Stowe of course. Emily VanCamp just doesn't have the range, what a disappointing choice of actress in an otherwise brilliant show. I'm only two episodes in.

I'm loving bitchy Ashely coming to the fore over the last few episodes, when she called Victoria by her first name was such a moment (at least for rubbish old me).

FAUXMANDA (someone's been watching FRINGE) and her comedy lithp are great too.

The last episode was great. I find myself laughing out loud whenever Victoria says ANYTHING. She has a real way with delivery.

The next one isn't for a month but if you want a sneak peek you can google Revenge 1x11 promo (first result) - it's going to be big!

i thought the last two episodes were a bit dull but it picked up nicely last night.

Fauxmanda has taken the place of girlfriend/social climber as the most annoying character.

The promo for episode 11 does indeed look suitably dramatic, mainly because I have NO IDEA how it'll play out.

As for this episode, firstly, the new title screen is even worse than the old one and it was shit. Tyler is a grade A cunt, but second best character (behind the amazing Victoria of course) and I like how things appear to be setting up Fauxmanda's eventual exit. Poor Jack.

It's not actually Daniel that dies in the pilot episode is it? And is it Jack that is there and takes his phone?

I love how it's all building up to what happens in the pilot.

They never showed the face of the dead body so it could be anyone who looks a bit like him.

So those were new!!! i was wondering where the bad cgi water came from. Also Nolan is of course the best character on this show.
