    The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Surprised there's no thread for this (well not really since this forum is dying) but this seems to have a few Moopy favorites.

This looks like a romantic comedy with old people and it seems really sweet. Maggie Smith is

What is Maggie's accent there? I can't work it out. But you really cannot go wrong with Dame Judi, Dame Maggie, Celia Imrie AND Penelope Wilton. And Slumdog boy.

Can a mod add a poll please?

Well, this was MARVELOUS. Enjoyment wise, I would give it 10/10 but objectively I'm giving it 8, and I would imagine that's fairly generous.

There were lots of fabulous laugh out loud moments for me and it was schmaltzy in a pretty forgivable way. Obviously, the cast was fantastic and completely carried what was just an ok script, but made it into something really wonderful. Dame Judi was RESPLENDENT - what a lovely character. Dame Maggie brought the comedy, as always, even if her character's racist beginning possibly went a bit too far considering the tone of the film. Bill Nighy was also brilliant, even though I'm not a particular fan, and Celia Imrie was absolutely awesome.

Penelope Wilton was very brave to take on a particularly unpleasant character - this woman seriously has no redeeming features, but she played a blinder. Tom Wilkison's story was very touching.

Anyway, marvelous. I could pick holes in the plot for days on end, but they only occasionally grated and really didn't detract much from a very lovely, life affirming film. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon.

I've seen the trailer for this so many times at the cinema and I could NOT work out who one of the actresses was and where I know her from. It turns out that it's Penelope Wilton, who I know from Ever Decreasing Circles.

Saw it today and loved it. Dev Patel was a little off-putting but that's a personal gripe, I suppose. 9/10

Oh and I liked Dev Patel and thought he was pretty fit in it too. And all the supporting, predominantly Indian, cast were excellent.

I bloody loved it. Went in with quite low expectations thinking it would be a great cast with an average film, but thought it was thoroughly entertaining throughout with lots of genuine LOLs. Thought all the main cast were superb, especially Tom Wilkinson, Maggie Smith and Penelope Wilton though singling people out for praise is ridiculous because all the main cast were 10/10 performances.

I enjoyed this SO MUCH. The entire cast (bar Dev the hammy hamhock) were a PLEASURE to watch. Judi is SUCH a tour de force, isn't she?

I'm totally tempted to sell my belonging and retire in Rajasthan IMMEDIATELY.

    grin

I really really loved this. Funny and moving and full of heart, but more substantial than i thought it would be (i certainly didn't expect any interracial old age gayingfor one thing). Everyone was brilliant, but the both the Dames truly were as glorious as ever i thought. OLD PEOPLE FTW. It felt a bit like someone had made a whole film using characters that might otherwise pop up as bit players in british tv shows/films and be the best thing about them.

And i didn't know it was scripted by Ol Parker until the end. He's only THANDIE NEWTON'S HUSBAND

    One short scene.

I liked the fact that there was clearly no sensible reason for any of them to be out there for that amount of time, yet there was no attempt to explain it

I saw this last night - it was in the biggest screen at Westfield and was sold out - how well has this done at the box office?

I really enjoyed it, but it could have easily been something on the BBC on a Bank Holiday.

It was also a touch too long.

It's done brilliantly at the Box Office. It's No.1 and figures were £2.4 million - much better than I'd have expected.

I didn't expect a gay subplot at all of course he had to die though

I must have been the only one at the showing below 60. anyway I thought it was an enjoyable one, love old people. it was very British. poor Penelope Wilton, I know it's just the characters she plays in this and Downton but I really would never want to meet her

This will go down a storm in a year or two if BBC1 buy it and stick it on a Bank Holiday Sunday

i thought it was ok, the racism at the start bothered me a bit and kind of threw me off for the rest of the movie but it was enjoyable enough. it was all about the actors though, everyone did a fantastic job and i really liked Penelope Wilton's scene in the beginning with the annoying real estate agent.

I loved this film! The racism didn't bother me because both of my grans used to be like that about what they considered "foreign" doctors. One of them said to me once "he was *stage whispers* black but I could understand him alright, he talked like he grew up in England" and it had never occurred to her that he probably had, just because he had a foreign name.
