Eileen you've only seen FIVE less than Helen_S has

You were only wondering if she was bedridden a month or so back. What changed?

I'm trying to do a film a day to fill in my shocking lack of knowledge about cinema. I'm about 4 behind at the moment. I'm really enjoying it actually.

    Tim Burtons Dark shadows

As a Dark shadows purest who grew up watching the original series on VHS, saw both earlier movies and the excellent 90s remake, this drove me crazy at times. I'm use to Dark-shadows being serious, dramatic with a strong tragic story line. So my focus while watching this was to try and view it through the eyes of a person who wasn't aware of what came before. And somehow ease up on the comparisons.

As a parody of Dark Shadows this is a fun movie, some really funny lines and scenes. I can see the unknowing public enjoying it. The people who sat behind us laughed at every cuss word. The cast is fine. I liked Johnny, Eva and Chloe Moretz best tho. Its alot like that trailer, the reviewers who said its serious and creepy watched a different movie.

I would go and see a part 2. The series has too many storylines to cram into one movie like this, i really think they should have only dealt with a few of the storys. I did like the Caroline twist. That is something they should have done in the series.

If you go and see this and like it, please see the 90 TV remake.

A generous 7/10. I wish they'd played it as serious tho. The look of the town of Collinsport was amazing.

Exit polling. The one stranger I talked to afterward said he thought it was okay. Then spent what seemed like hours talking to me about The Transformers cartoon series I have not seen

That's why we don't speak to strangers in Britain. They're ALL wierdos.

I saw La Casa Muda last night (the original version of The Silent House). Worra load of old SHIT, and I usually love me some foreign language horror.

I'm sure they are. Present company excluded

Isnt that La Casa Muda susposed to be based on a true story

He was that friendly American stereotype come to life to the extreme. It wouldn't have been so bad, but i was stuck waiting for my brother to come out the mens room.

Is there really no thread for BRAVE?

    It was very mediocre anyway.

    What I saw this week:

    ParaNorman: 5/10
    The Possession: 4/10
    Brave: 6/10

    Not a vintage selection.

Went to see Dredd yesterday which was quite the bore, the poor guy who played Dredd didn't even show his face once throughout the movie. Lena Heady was ok in it and good on her for uglying herself so much for such a film.

Also watched The Birds the other day, which really didn't live up to the hype.

You're beating last year's tally already. There's a film called Cogan's Trade that has 95% on RT. No idea what it's about, however. Or whether it's on at Cineworld.

2 or 3, or none depending on the week. Occasionally a Sunday may be 2-3 in a single day.

I've changed my score for Argo from 8 to a 9 as I've seen other 4 star films since but in retrospect thought Argo was one of the best of the year.

Eileen, have you considered joining Letterboxd? You probably watch more actual movies than me per year in total compared to cinema visits.

I really need to get over my now probably irrational (but VERY RATIONAL back in the era of 'BENNIFER') hatred of Ben fucking Affleck and go and see Argo. But it is proving VERY HARD.

It's really like he's a totally different person to how he was in the late 90s/early 00s. I couldn't stand him before as at the time I hadn't seen Good Will Hunting (didn't care for him as an actor in that anyway) and only associated him with Armageddon, Pearl Harbor and maybe a couple of the small roles in Kevin Smith films.

I've never heard of Letterboxd. A few of mine are cinema visits, a few are things I've bought... and most are LoveFilm.

We have the film festival at the moment so I've done three movies this week and have the last one today. Then I have Skyfall, Argo and The Man With Iron Fists that I need to watch.

I ended up watching Frankenweenie with my friends instead of my planned Queen of Versailles viewing. It was ok, looked very pretty but the premise felt stretched and there were more characters than the film needed. The girl with the cat was the best thing about it.
