    I liked The Song Of Achilles and it is a very well written books but I found certain elements from when they were kids to be rather annoying even if I see why it was there. Thetis is one cold bitch and I had no recollection of Pyrhuss even though I was obsessed with Greek mythology as a teenager.

    Embrassingly, I know hardly anything about Greek Mythology.
    Top up, Sue?

    I read many versions of the Iliad and Odyssey (none of them was in the original form) and I had a book that was a glossary of all the gods and heroes that I cherished. No wonder I turned out to be such a geek.

    I bought Information is Beautiful a few days ago and it's BRILLIANT. It's basically a book of data taken from the internet shown in a visual way (rather than long boring reports and statistics). It's a great coffee table book and I can't imagine reading it more than once or twice all the way through but it has some thought-provoking information in it. Plus it looks cool.

    I've picked that book up several times in bookshops and lost myself for periods of time. So much so that I don't really feel the need to buy it any more

    Totally It's the kind of book that you'd read one night until 3am, never read it again and then put out for people to look at and go 'ooooooo'.

    I'm now reading A Brief History Of The Future. It's all about how by studying the past, you can understand what will probably happen in the future. It seems we aren't actually fucked as long as we can avoid wars over oil, fresh water and/or carbon. Oh and if 'pirate states' don't take power. As long as none of that stuff happens, we'll be fine. Well, 'we' won't be as we'll have to live through a horrible period of hyper surveillance. But our kids will be.

    I've just finished my second book of 2012 (poor I know) - Miranda Hart: Is It Just Me?

    I found it read just like her sitcom comes across which worked for a while but the thing was was that it just wasn't very funny. Essentially she spends the book giving life lessons to her 18 year old-self which I found got quite annoying really towards the end when they kept interrupting each other in very staged conversations.
    It's like you're screaming . . . and no one can hear;
    you almost feel ashamed . . . that someone could be that important

    I got through 2 chapters of that over Christmas and had to give up. INSUFFERABLE.

    She's sporadically entertaining on TV, but writing a whole book in the same tone in which she speaks does NOT work.

    It's a shame as I found the Boxing Day Christmas special quite hilarious at times.

    I kept persevering with the book as expected there to be quite a few anecdotes later on once she'd got into the flow of things but they seemed few and far between
