    Prisoners' Wives (New BBC Drama)

STARRING POLLY WALKER no less What a fabulous old bitch, I hope her character is a psycho like she was in Caprica (and indeed Sanctuary).

That is all I have to say really.

It looks pretty decent and the cast is TERRIFIC. Great to see Joanna Clore off of Green Wing! and of course you can never go wrong with a bit of Polly Walker.

I don't see any hot prisoners, or police men.
Reflected onto the wet pavement, can you see what I see?

This would've totally passed me by, but SISTER CLARICE makes it a MUST WATCH

Do you not know her as MRS BRITTAS? Suddenly i feel a bit old.

Also, i like the cast, but as said elsewhere i don't expect it to be the fabulous Footballers Wives / Bad Girls hybrid that the title conjoured up in my mind, and that makes me sad.

Actually despite loving the beeb generally i can't really remember the last midweek 6x1hour BBC1 drama that did ANYTHING for me. They've all been so grey/generic and unappealing from the first trailer onwards. This i'm tempted to give a go though, so that's one up on most.

They really NEED a hot new BUZZ SERIES that can compete with Downton in the press coverage stakes. The only acclaimed stuff they do nowadays is adaptations (my uni lecturer in screenwriting was having a right old RANT about this and how the 'original British drama' tagline on the advert is a LIE because almost NONE of it is original).

But they've got THE HOUR () *pops another valium*

Yeah i agree. I think they've done wonders with the big statement short term dramas recently (Grest Expectations leading into Sherlock leading into Birdsong has been a MASTERSTROKE i think, and the first two have been some of the most perfect telly i've seen in AGES [i've not started Birdsong yet]), but the returning Mon-Fri night series are limp as fuck right now. Especially with Hustle and Spooks now bowing out forever(/for a while). I think Life on Mars was the last one that felt truly special, and like event tv that could stand its ground on the international market.

Upbeat escapism is needed. And more historical stuff too, what with BBC4 drama being axed COMPLETLY (thanks to voters like YOU, jark).

Less original BBC4 drama means more Danish imports means HAPPY HAPPY JARK!

I'm quite interested to see this - especially for Polly apparently as a career prisoner's wife but not so much a dramatic turn from that crap comedy ginger actor from Benidorm and Fresh Meat. Good for bulimic Hannah from Hollyoaks getting herself a proper acting job though.

I really liked it but EXACTLY this really annoyed me. Why was she so perplexed at the idea of a PRISON being hot on SECURITY. (I know she was meant to seem uncomfortable, but STILL).

    Where was Joanna Clore?

I really liked it! Polly was all kinds of she seems to have put on a fair chunk of weight but of course she wears it FABULOUSLY. I was mighty impressed with Emma Rigby too. Not sure what was even the point of introducing Joanne Clore yet since she did fuck all and I don't care for the drug dealing council estate mom but on the whole rather enjoyable!

I liked this, first and foremost for Polly and her fabulous hair, though it looks like she loses all her finery from next week's trailer which seems a bit soon to me - I'd like a bit more swanning around like lady muck thank you.

Was a bit torn about Emma Rigby, as in parts she was good but her confused about hubby being in prison acting did seem very similar to her despairing bulimic acting. I think she'll be fine once it settles a bit though

I am so uninterested in the main character. The other two are much better.

It did seem like that was all she did at the hospital though.

I quite enjoyed this episode though the prospect of weeks focussed on the other two lead characters isn't thrilling me.

Agreed, this show would be much better if it was just about the SISTERHOOD of Emma Rigby and Polly Walker.

Was this show a hit? I haven't watched it yet but Polly Walker needs to be in more high-profile things.

Also what is all this Sister Clarice shit? Polly Walker's defining role will always be ATIA OF THE JULIII

Polly was good in this, though the role was obviously no Atia.

I think it did fairly well, I'm sure I read there will be a second series.
