That one has Whitney on the bottom, Frank Sinatra in the middle and KEVIN KEEGAN on the top.

I like that wedding cake (or whatever, I guess) stand

I made a whole heap of those bowls from slightly melted old records a year or so back, after seeing a stall here selling them for ridiculous prices.

Yes i'm going to make some of those too to put on the tables. It's incredible that people are happy to pay stupid money for something you can get in a charity shop for peanuts and do your self. I got all my records from my mum's charity shop for free as no one really wants them any more.

Omg Wendy I was looking at making cake stands for my centre pieces an was worried that I would smash the plates trying to drill them through after seeing a tutorial on YouTube, what a perfect way to avoid it! I WANT THEM!!!!!!! Seriously, are they hard to make? If I smash a gazillion plates trying to make mine I might have to consider that idea!

I've found my reception venue, a gorgeous village hall in a sleepy town in Leicestershire and it even has a huge garden with a red telephone box outside. My village fete type theme is now as go, luckily Dan absolutely backed it as well, I think the idea of a coconut shy sold it.

Everyone is getting into the geek theme as well, my Dad joked he could dress as Darth Vader and we could walk down the aisle to the Imperial March!

I am making pretty much everything myself. EXCITE.

They are a piece of piss to make with records as they already have the holes in them. Half the fun of making them is rooting out the cheesiest records to use!
These are the fittings i bought: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-Tier-Cak...item4600e5935d
although depending when you are getting married you could probably have mine if you wanted them. (as long as you sell them on to Rachey at an extortionate mark up afterwards)
I know Emma said she had Pinterest, here is mine: http://pinterest.com/thewiglet/wedding/

My wedding is 4th May next year, I do adore them! Thanks for the link, I may well give it a go, I was going to use 7inch records as my invites and as the table numbers, Dan's in a band so thought that would be a nice touch but your idea is A*, definite Etsy winner after!

Added you on pininterest, was only alerted to it today, love it!

Oh gosh, I just went to see some decorators tonight and for the first time I LOVED what one of them has to offer BUT the price is a lot more than other people as her stuff is quite bespoke. What to do?

Do you plan on coating them with some sort of sealant or varnish if you're going to be serving food off or out of them? I've only used the ones I've made for keeping various bits of crap in. I'm not sure I'd want food to come into contact with them.

If your budget allows it, go with it. Or try and haggle them down. Or see if someone can re-create what she showed you for less?

You absolutely shouldn't feel guilty for it for your big day. Think of all those miserable days you've been stuck there until stupid o'clock - what were they for?

Still no point paying over the odds for it, though...

If you really want it and can afford it, go for it. It's your big day and you don't want to look back and wish you'd had it.

True, we'll see what the proper quote tomorrow is. I've got a figure in my head, if it is around that then I'm going to go for it!

I think you'd be surprised! this is for the day time, we have a stage called a mandap (google it for pics). It's the center piece of the morning so it's quite important! Hence companies can get away with charging thousands for them

I'm pondering about that. Most of our cakes are going to be in paper cases of some sort and we have bought some lovely tacky doilys so we might not need to. The bowls aren't going to be for food. we are just filling them with Lego to put on the tables as centre pieces.

OMG WEND, I REALLY want one of those cakestands! Like NOW! I've got a "VINYL" themed kitchen (strangely, but due to a quirk of fate someone bought me a Whitney Houston "record" clock and then a trivet/pot stand thing made out of an old record in the same week as moving in presents)

And what was this about BOWLS ?

    I'LL PAY

    *much excite*

As I say, they really are stupidly simple to make! You just need 3 records (I used an LP, a 78 & and a single), Buy those metal bits off ebay i posted earlier (they are like £1.75 or something) and that's all there is to it! You don't even have to make them 3 tiers if you don't want to.

The bowls are easy peasy too: http://www.instructables.com/id/Vinyl-Fruit-Bowl/
As Lolly said, you may need to coat them with some clear varnish if you want to use them for food.

Have had an INTENSE weekend of wedding planning. MY GOD it's hard to get him to focus his mind on it with all the work he's got on right now.

TYPICAL that for the majority of the last 12 years my other half has made a decent living working VERY FEW hours and then 6 months before the wedding he decides to set up a new business from scratch and work 100 hour weeks.

I am excited that I am getting to make stuff! I've been looking at foam flowers for the bouquets, my friend had fake flowers and they were foam, I'd have never known! They look LOADS better than the silk ones.

Oh and here is my engagement ring - it's far more out there than I would have originally picked but omg I love it. Dan got me the wedding band made at the same time so that's one less thing to worry about.
