So that and some Peshwaari naan, please. Although apparently that's Pakistani, isn't it?

We've got caterer appointments tonight and Sunday, but I'm pretty ill still and debating if I should allow Dan to go on his own tonight. NOT LIKELY.

I just want the caterer sorted so I'm not left with someone rubbish and then I don't have to do anything for ages. Woo!

We left it so late! We were going round and round in circles of what we actually wanted. We almost went with a massive barbecue but I'm so happy with what we've chosen in the end, people will be so surprised to not get the usual wedding fodder.

The caterers we are going to see offer all kinds of options so I am open to ideas at the minute. The one we are going to see on Sunday also can provide a bar and various other bits and pieces, so hopefully that will help.

Dan's just been given a massive promotion and fat payrise so I think I am going to get my dream car now, EXCITING. It was on Top Gear, 1950's Red Cadillac Convertible Coupe

I quite fancied a hog roast but they seem to be something of the NORM now. And once you add on the extras it gets a bit PRICEY.
I did find somewhere that did massive paella pans of curries or chili or paella. But it was way out of our budget

Anythings better than a bog-standard set sit down roast dinner!

Yeah hog roasts are £700 each and we would have needed about 3, plus all the extras. Those big paella's would be good if they were decent, not just ricey slop. But agreed on the "anything but a standard shit roast dinner"

Yea. we were leaning towards the curries as a safer bet but as well as the price, they didn't do tastings so there was no chance to taste what we were going to get beforehand.

Yeah Hog Roasts are ridiculously overpriced now.

We are doing all the evening food ourselves, all our closest friends have already said they'll get baking for us!

I'm not sure what we're doing for the evening food - leftovers from the dinner plus some sausages on a bbq probs.

The trip to the caterers was a success, the food was delicious! We get to choose five different dishes for a hot buffet and they had a gorgous lamb tagine and chicken with pomegranates, mmmm. They can take care of our bar and everything and well and the quote was pretty good. Got another one to go to on Sunday as well though.

Mm hot buffet sounds good! I'm totally down with people helping themselves and mixing and matching so they get to eat exactly what they like and how much.

Went to the florists wholesalers with the MIL today and bought milk bottle vases, raffia and candles and have found a wedding arch that we are going to decorate with ivy and a few flowers from my bouquet selection.

Also the MIL has been buying vintage pouring jugs from charity shops for cream and fruit couli to go with our dessert. It's all coming together I'm SO EXCITED!!

It's 26.50 per head but that's not including dessert as my mother in law is making that. Wine also not included as we're buying it ourself from the wine society.

The after ceremony tea party shizzle is £5.50 per head - but we're also buying pimms and lemonade & fruit ourself for that so add on a bit.

Yeah I was pretty pleased with what we're getting for the money. The day and afternoon is nearly sorted for mine now, I'm starting to think more about the evening do.

Honestly, you wait all your life for an Indian wedding and then two come along within a couple of months of each other. I've been invited to my friend's wedding, but this one is in Gujarat, not North London

Actually do you have any tips for wine buying? I don't really know what I'm looking for!

We're just going for our favourites really - I don't drink white but I think we're having a sauvingnon blanc cos it's the one most others will like and for red I think we're having a beaujolais cos it's light and fruity and will go with the food reasonably well. we're also buying larger bottles of indian beer for the table too. I've got a thing againt seeing people drink out of bottles so I've insisted on buying big bottles that need to be poured into glasses!

Ed's parents are members of the wine soc so we can buy in bulk from there and they also do sale or return. We're still undecided on what to have for our toast - I think prosecco will be fine!

Yes, she went out to India in Feb, met him, and now it's all being arranged. WHEN it is depends largely on what time she can get off from work though, and there's a possibility it will be September. I've already told her there's no chance if it's then, for OBVIOUS reasons.

Not that I'm sure I'd go anyway, even though I think I would love to, and am very flattered to be asked. Obviously the flight isn't going to be cheap, and it would be a lot of my leave going on it. Mr L wouldn't go (in fact I don't THINK he was even invited...), and so it knocks any plan for another holiday with him this year on the head. And financially threaten a planned return to San Francisco next year.

The Wine Society is excellent- if you're buying your own, they are a good place to go. I belong to them too and I also have a friend who works for them. They are based in Stevenage and I'm QUITE sure she'd be happy to help you out- if you wanted to go and have a tasting etc (I can come along too if you're too shy to go with her alone- though she is QUITE lovely!)

The good thing about TWS is that it's "Non profit" in theory- it's a Co-Op, so you pay for membership (£40, once off) but then you get, say, a £7 bottle of wine which is the equivalent of a £12 in the shops. I've had some excellent excellent wines from there. I'm hardly a WINE BUFF but got some really good stuff. You want quite light things as well if you're having wine with dinner during the day and they do loads of lower % alcohol ones (around the 9% mark- so enough to mean everyone won't be SLASHED at 5pm but still enough to pack a punch) too.

Exactly. Seriously, she'd be REALLY HAPPY to help and she's PROPERLY lovely. You'll probably have to become a member (unless I go with you, but that's not a problem) but it's well well worth it. I'll email her today actually and see if they have any sort of "tasting service" or wedding type of affair.

Miss Star, we are also Wine Society members if it's any help - I was going to say you could use our membership card if we all went up there, but I'm guessing you'd want more wine than could be fit in a car...

The Wine Society will deliver for free if it's over 12 bottles ANYHOO- and they can do it to any address, not just the society member...

I'm going to my wedding venue tomorrow to hopefully not have my entire evening reception plans dashed on the grounds that the lawn is too sloped.

it will be a literal FUCK MY LIFE moment if the outcome is not positive.
