I LOVE Boom Boom. It's one of my favourite Britney songs and I don't go for that sort of minimal urban shit normally.

He's SO going to lose interest when it gets to the likes of Shadow and Brave New Girl though
(both of which I ADORE)
right I gotta go meet a mate for lunch but FUCK ME on the first five tracks so far...
right moving onto the BIG TRACK...
6. Toxic - 7
OK I always used to say (and thus far still agree with) that Britney Spears has produced three bona fide MEGA tracks... "Baby One More Time", "Slave 4 U" and "Toxic" (BTMYH is also a 10/10 track but it's not iconic or anything). Of those three, 2 I love and 1 I never had any time for... the latter being "Toxic". I just never understood the hype or love, but believe when I say I was there, in the bars, both gay and straight, when it came out, and I remember the unbridled JOY most people had for it. It was borderline "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" in terms of the MANIA that would ensue when it would come on. But, while it's not my cup of tea, and I can see why people like it so much. It just never really felt like her song, but as someone has mentioned somewhere already, this fits very nicely into the context of this album and I can see more where they are coming from now. It flows very nicely after "Early Mornin'", for instance. Objectively I'd say it was an 8, I think of it as a 6. So I'll give it a 7 here.
7. Outrageous - 4
Right this is taking a few steps back. I get this is very much that minimal R&B again, but this feels very demo/unfinished. It doesn't really go anywhere and the middle eastern guitar riffs which were very big then feels forced and tacky here. I will say that just because a song fits my genre, doesn't automatically means it's good. Ooh I like what they did with the bridge there, with the Jacko-style disco backing vocals. But then it just reverts back to the repetitive loops and it's not enough to save it. This is the sort of can't-muster-up-an-opinion-either-way nodescript album track I expect from Britney, just surprised there has been very little evidence of it besides this track, so far.
8. The Hook Up - 1
Very much back to lazy cheap Britney now. Even with token black man mumbling in the background. She does. not. pull. this. shit. off. She sounds bored here too. I feel like I'm listening to a different album now...
9. Shadow - 4
Nice production at the start. The strings fading in and out give it a nice cinematic feel. Feels more adventurous than most Britney ballads... oh but the chorus is very production line. The old faults come creeping in. The verses are a million times better than the chorus, they actually sound like a different song. The chorus sounds like a DISNEY SONG. That alone takes away the effect of what could have been. I guess it's hard to wedge in a Britney ballad without it being gloopy given her limitations, but I was hoping for more after the first half of the album.
10. Brave New Girl - 2
OK at least there's something different going on here but this is so altered and artificial I can't get on board. Oh I hate the chorus. The spoken verses are actually not bad... but again she flits between experimental and teenybopper and the results are disjointed. There is a real bipolar vibe about this album. Not in terms of sounds, but of trying to find her comfort zone between daring and safe and never really achieving either.
11. Everytime - 3
I've never liked this. She doesn't have the voice to pull it off.
12. The Answer - 5
I don't mind this, as it's not your standard Britney like the last few tracks and feels again like a progress in sound. It doesn't really go anywhere but it's far from offensive.
13. Don't Hang Up - 6
I like the production here again, and her vocals are working again, the dreamy vibes etc, this would have worked very well further up the album. It's definitely album filler, but it's one of the better tracks on offer and deserves to be higher up the pecking order.
Overall: 7
A very optimistic and appreciative 7/10 from me, given that there are a few album surprises I didn't see coming, and there's a general sense of attempting to move on in sound and create something interesting which will ultimately build on her legacy. I'm not hopeful for the albums to come, and I always felt like she peaked creatively around this time, even if I had no idea the albums also contained tracks of note. Kudos to whoever exec-produced this largely average, but at times sparkling, record.

all DONE!
is it downhill from here on in?

I can't even remember how Outrageous goes properly - I've just realized I'm singing Madonna's Waiting instead inter-cut with "on A WORLD TOUR."
In The Zone and Blackout are the closest she's came to inadvertently making any kind of artistic statement. There's some ironic fun to be had on Circus, but Femme Fatale did a lot of damage for me (apart from Till The World Ends and Trip).
Reflected onto the wet pavement, can you see what I see?
I see where you're going there, but Madonna's "Waiting" is one of the greatest filth-R&B songs I've EVER HEARD. She out-Janets Janet at every turn on it. Bonafide 11/10 and probably my favourite non single from Madonna ever.
Outrageous isn't in the same league... but then I would say that.
Does FUNKS knows Early Mornin' was written by MOBY though?
cat, hat; in French, chat, chapeau in Spanish, el gato in a sombrero.
what happened to "touch of my hand", my favourite song on the album
Yeah Funky you missed a track.
oh shut up dub
averages have never meant anything in overall album scores
what track did I miss? Should I care?

Touch of my Hand is nothing sort of a 10/10 guys!
"Touch of My Hand" is ESSENTIAL and is kind of a more understated "Breathe on Me" sonically.
I love myself
It's not a sin
I can't control what's happenin'![]()
in that case I'm rather annoyed I didn't get to listen to it when I was in my SWING of enjoying the album, of which I'm already OVER
let's all blame SLAVE for this TERRIBLE ERROR
it's because of HIM i may never enjoy Britney AGAIN
Should funky 'do' 2004-2006 Britney or shall we move straight onto Blackout?
In the 2004-2006 era there are quite a few odds and ends, these are the ones I think are worth reviewing:
My Prerogative
Do Somethin'
I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)
And Then We Kiss
Someday (I Will Understand)
I don't really see a need for the Chaotic EP stuff but I don't know how COMPREHENSIVE we're going
what albums are next? I have no idea where we are up to. There's more than one album between 2004 and 2006?
As IF Funky is ever going to enjoy the likes of My Prerogative and I've Just Begun (Having My Fun). Even I hate all those piece-of-crap songs.
Let's just move on to Blackout rather than risk killing this project STONE DEAD.
...Although "And Then We Kiss" is the exception, very good indeed.
"And Then We Kiss" is very much a continuation of the In The Zone SOUND, although I guess it was from those sessions anyway
Yeah I'm not expecting him to like the rest of those batch of tracks but didn't know how complete we were going
So is Blackout the next album? Do you just mean there were some random singles in between?
Can't be arsed with THAT. I'll just do the next proper album.
2004-2007 was a rather MESSY period for our Brit.
She released a Greatest Hits with a handful of (rubbish) new tracks (My Prerogative, Do Somethin', I've Just Begun...).
Then she started recording some WEIRD ASS hippy dippy shit about how great it is being a mother, the only fruits of which were random single Someday (I Will Understand) which I think was only a minor hit in GERMANY or something.
There was also a remix album featuring And Then We Kiss, which is the ONLY one of the new tracks from that period that's remotely worth hearing.

Here's "And Then We Kiss" and then someone can post Blackout?
er, no thanks
ONTO BLACKOUT THEN!
the one all my real life gays are absolutely obsessed with "Oh [insert real life name here], you're so stupid, everyone knows that Blackout is a genuine pop masterpiece" etc
See what I have to put up with moopy? You think the grief I get on HERE is bad...
Don't think you're getting away with skipping Touch of My Hand though![]()
