    poll coming up.

edit: RIGHT, I've gone circular round central London, and then circular again round outer London. It's a mixture of areas with emphasis on well known places.

APOLOGIES IF YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE IS NOT NAMECHECKED. I've covered most bases.

    TOP 10

    1 Soho/Marylebone/Fitzrovia/Mayfair
The centre. Something for everyone. Each quadrant has its own personality and type of person.

    2 Clerkenwell
Like a little town in the centre of the city. Great restaurants.

    3 Angel
Where I really want to live. Nice houses. Upper Street is nice EXCEPT when the Bridge & Tunnel CRAWL OUT on Saturday nights.

    4 Shoreditch
    Cool but not too cool.

    5 Maida Vale/Warwick Avenue
The nicest part of London. When I have money I want a flat overlooking the canal.

    6 Kensington
A good place to look for a rich piece.

    7 Clapham
Shit and overrated, especially by queens, but serves a person if you live south of the river.

    8 The City
Full of a lot of hot boys in suits

    9 Waterloo
I love that I like 10 mins walk from here

    10 Richmond
If I were straight, I would live here at 30+

Poor Hornchurch. Ditched by Essex, but London won't accept it because of its Essex postcode.

Tell me more about Clerkenwell, please. Can you wander for a half day or so around it?

As a tourist who considers himself above a tourist and comes to London a fair bit I need somewhere new to explore. I'm up again later this month and will have a couple of hours spare.

Even after 4 years, I don't think I know enough of LDN as I'd like. I find Lou's central quadrants talk particularly BAFFLING

Shoreditch is terrible for bridge and tunnel people too. It went from rough cesspit to pretentious shithole to a destination for the worst sort of Essex people within about a DECADE. Horrendous place.

If you take in the Barbican, a restaurant and go for a wander, you can probably eke out a few hours. It's not very big.

Not happy with Bow being dumped in with Barking

Bow should be put with Bethnal Green, which I can't see listed

I do wish I'd upped and moved to London when I was younger. I wouldn't want to live there now, but I should have done it when I had the opportunity in my mid 20s. I do still love a visit for no real purpose other than to soak the city in for a day.

I still kinda refuse to acknowledge Fitzrovia as an area. It never really TOOK OFF, did it? Apart from Charlotte Street, but people just refer to that as, well, Charlotte Street

I see some people are trying to own NOHO now that there is a Noho Square (as in, North of Soho). But Soho is supposed to stand for North Of HOuston (Street), so I'm not really sure how that is going to work. Meh.

Darling I can ONLY be spotted in KENSINGTON, PIMLICO and HOLBORN

My brother may WELL live in WALWORTH but I have NO INTENTION OF VISITING. He can COME TO ME

Think of a big square that's intersected by Oxford Street and Regent Street. The south-eastern quadrant is Soho, the south-western in Mayfair, the north-western in Marylebone and the north-eastern in Fitzrovia.

I really like Fitzrovia. Charlotte Street is the main attraction, but Great Portland Street and Great Tichfield Street are nice too. It's not quite Marylebone though.

I've just picked the areas that I CHOOSE to visit as opposed to visit. I mean, I go to Kilburn all the time, to see friends. But not because I LOVE THE PLACE.

I can't think of anywhere to live BUT London

I'm not sure if that's GOOD OR BAD though

I mean some choice would be useful, if the career (or future husband) demands it...
