I can't wait to buy me some second-hand African prints and start dancing like a terrified spastic to this.

Apart from not actually singing - that performance was fucking excellent and she looked every inch the popstar. Well done Cherly.

Yes, I thought it was a great performance as well. She CAN turn it on when she needs to.

I love how she makes a point of using her own mic at the end - just to show that it was switched on you know, pet.

I think I am back on board. It's cool to hate Cheryl on here but compared to the likes of Tulisa, I think this new confidence she seems to have and how she has evolved interests me.

I'd never compare her to Tulisa. Tulisa will never escape the 'absolutely shit' category in my eyes. Whatever Cheryl does she'll always have '3 words' and 'Parachute'.

And you're basing that after one Tulisa single? It's not really like anyone held any hopes for Cheryl as a solo star, is it?

Obviously I much prefer Girls Aloud to N Dubz, but I wouldn't write Tulisa off so quickly, particularly when I suspect the record label is probably throwing a bit of money behind her.

I think there's a pretty massive GULF of anticipation between a Girls Aloud solo career and an N-Dubz solo career though??

Cheryl used to be my favourite Aloud, back when she was refusing to oooh on The Show, then a friend's loathing towards her proved infectious and I moved onto Nadine. Cheryl, even with bad styling, looked phenomenal last night and it made a GA reunion look even more redundant than it's ever been - why does she need the likes of Kimba and that fabulous train-wreck Sarah "so many ways to go wrong" Harding dragging her down?

Call me easily pleased, but OMG i LOVED THE SWAN DIVE.

Re: Tulisa - i did think she might have the potential to become a semi-decent popstar, but then i saw her BGT performance. Has it been discussed elsewhere?

I mean for the love of god LOOK AT WHAT SHE IS WEARING. Frumpy gladiator-cinderella chic and a pair of flats?! Really Tulisa? REALLY THOUGH? Also: crap vocals and very little stage presence/charisma. I think there is too much to overcome.

Cheryl is such an un popstarry name. It sounds really odd with them not adding her surname. So abrupt.

Good performance though. The first time I've EVER seen her looking like she actually enjoys her job in a solo performance.

The Guardian probably never got the briefing, as to them she is still 'Cheryl Cole'.

Anything but 'Cherly' sounds wrong to my ears thesedays. I keep getting the urge to correct people, i think it suits her so much more.

The just-Cheryl-by-itself thing does sound particularly jarring though. Especially as you could tell it had been enforced by a memo anytime it was said on The Voice.

The Voice performance was great. Totally agree that it was the first time I've seen her perform confidently and looking like she's enjoying it. I said from the start, this is by far the best suited to her single she's released. It's kind of high end chav-pop/dance and it just works. I never bought into her as the high fashion artist behind songs like 3 Words and Promise This.

Perhaps the thread should be split for the album?

Speaking of, any of these new promo pics would've made for a better album cover:

Is spunk any good for the vocal chords? She might not want to risk it.

She's got nothing to lose in that area. Her sandpaper throat could do with the lubrication. I will NOT be putting this to the test when I lay down my own VOCALS for my Ukrainian entry however.

P.s. I LOVE THAT song now (mainly down to the WONDERFUL Harris production). Had it going round in my head all the time. Still surprised they're leaving the release that late though.

Massive LOL though at the Marquis de Sade quote at the beginning of the video. You just KNOW the first thing she asked once she saw the final video was:"Woah, pet, what's Mawquee the Seid all aboot leik? Is tha' a depawtment of Lee'real aw wot?"

As IF she's looking at anything besides her new tats the way parents look at their baby for the first time.

Is this not actually released yet? Obviously promo slots on The Voice are great but seems a touch of a waste when it's not out for several weeks after (same for Payphone)

The new popjustice interview is quite good:

"Well what I do is, I get loads of records sent. Sometimes I get just a beat. That you can just fall in love with. Or just a hook. And I’ll write the verses, or I’ll say, “can someone please write the verses to this”… Sometimes it takes a lifetime to master your craft."

She also spills, news to me at least, that Girls Aloud sang a song that went to Kylie. Please someone tell me Nicola sang Made of Glass ON HER OWN.

A bit of a contradiction here, Cherly:

    Who has the final say?
Me. It’s my record, it’s up to me.

Is there anything you had to fight for to stay on the album?
Actually I had a lot of fights on this record. There was stuff they didn’t want and that I wanted, and that they wanted and I didn’t want. I recorded so much material that I had to give my head a wobble and realise that they do what they do because they’re amazing at their job, and if they’re saying “this song’s better for the record” you have to put your trust in their hands. And that’s why we’ve had a relationship for ten years: because they know what they’re doing. I don’t want to become a control freak!

I love PopJustice for this bit

    ‘Screw You’.
This was written for me, because I went into the studio with every intention of recording a different song. I was hungover from a party I’d been to the night before…

    Which is a bit unprofessional.
I know, and it’s the first and last time it’s happened. But they were like, “let’s use the studio time anyway”. And that’s what they wrote in that time – I think the inspiration was that someone had tweeted a picture of me giving the middle finger, and that’s what inspired them.
    and these

One imagines you would get sent better songs than Pixie Lott, for instance. Or they’d be sent to you, and if you say no, then they go to her. One imagines. In the same way that Rihanna might get first choice and you get second?
Rihanna has a team that works for her specifically and they all go in different rooms – writing camps. That’s amazing. That’s brilliant. And those are super-talented people. I mean writers have people in mind when they’re writing – they might think ‘oh this song is for Rihanna’, and then she doesn’t want it, and they just kind of put it away and you hear it years later with a different beat to make it current. Girls Aloud once did a song that Kylie sang a bit of later, for example.
Is that a bongo on ‘All Is Fair’?
    No.

    It sounds like a bongo.
    It’s a helicopter.

There’s no judgement here. There’s no “oh bongos in pop are bad” argument, or even “bongos in pop are good”. It was just important to establish whether or not there were in fact bongos on that song. And you say no.
    No.

It’s a fine line between a helictopter and a bongo.
    There’s a helicopter, there’s no bongo.

    Ugh

    ‘All Is Fair’.
It’s one for my Soldiers. Just being there and supporting us through everything. As soon as I heard the chorus “this is war” I knew I was meant to sing it.

I like how she half disowns the Messy Little Raindrops campaign/album, its dreadfulness was obviously due to her MALARIA HELL
