I heard "Judas" on the radio once... something about it sounded OFF. I just don't think it was suited for the masses, even as a fan of the song it's not something that goes down EASILY if that makes sense.

It's basically a BIG FAT TURD... albeit one which can make you smile on occasion, like when you do a shit and it comes out looking like one of those curly sausages.
kyoko, it's me
There was nothin' doin' as Kylie might say. It was just pretentious posturing at its worst. She gave us something as starkly Depeche Mode lite as the marvelous disco pathos-shivers of Dance In The Dark and then THIS turd with glitter sprinkled on it. I was ready to become obsessed with her, but the album was a total shambles in places.
Reflected onto the wet pavement, can you see what I see?
I just played it for the 300th time.
What's confusing? We just find the heart of the prison and the dragon who speaks without walls, and we're home free. Simple.
Still loving this derivative piece of blasphemy
The tuneless verses are worth betraying Christ for
FEARLESS FEMALE
I'M JUST A HOLY FOOL
OH BABY IT'S SO CRUEL
BUT I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH JUDAS BABY
I still don't get the vitriol. There are so many worse songs than this. Just like there are so many worse people than Judas.
I really think a lot of it came down to timing. Post BTW, it was de rigeur to hate her and just about everything she did. It was probably for the best, as she needed a chink in her armour to keep the expanding ego in check, but it's a shame for the song, as it is certainly no worse than the stuff that exploded at the time (California Gurls, We R Who We R, etc.)
FEARLESS FEMALE
It was more the fact that it was a cheapo knock off "Bad Romance" and a naff attempt to stir up a bit of controversy with its release date that was the problem!

It's NOT bad.
More than being a brother to Bad Romance I always thought that title belonged to sheiße
cat, hat; in French, chat, chapeau in Spanish, el gato in a sombrero.
I FUCKING LOVE IT. Dragging Steps through an S&M dungeon was inspired as a track concept.
Albeit not quite as a SINGLE but we all know that by now.
This came up on shuffle yesterday and I must say that I wasn't exactly HATING IT.![]()
I don't think the way it was released and hurriedly scrapped things helped - had it been left to chart a little longer, even in the divisive aftermath of 'Born This Way', I think she had enough momentum to make it a hit. Perhaps not a MASSIVE hit, but more than it ended up being. The fact that she and her label seemed to consider it a flop almost immediately pretty much gave it that label long before it had actually earnt it of its own accord.
The only BTW single I ever listen to now. I've never got the hate. I find Edge of Glory and Marry The Night far more tiresome.
It elevated trying-too-hard to an art form in itself; there is so little actual content that it's hard not to admire the chutzpah.
I must fight this sickness
Find a cure
Marry The Night is all kinds of AWFUL too
I'm glad I NEVER bought BTW
cat, hat; in French, chat, chapeau in Spanish, el gato in a sombrero.
wash your mouth out! Marry the Night is still a top notch pop song
kyoko, it's me
I like "Marry The Night" but it's by FAR her weakest single to date in my opinion...
It's been too long, it's been too long...
For me, 'Judas' was the ultimate 'Oh my god GET OVER YOURSELF' moment.
I like "Judas" more than most but I can't remember the last time I went out of my way to play it. It's just a bit more abrasive than I like my pop songs. "Marry the Night" was the right balance between overbearing and having wonderful pop sensibility intact, sadly the moment for the album had passed by the time that was a single.

I don't know which campaign was handled worse: BTW or 4?
FEARLESS FEMALE
though it looks like mrs farter (tee hee hee klunk) will give that a run for its money!
the best song wasn't a single
Once BTW got over the "Judas" hump, the singles were handled as well as they could have. Promotion was focused on each single which had their own individual campaigns. Any momentum that came with 4 seemed to be squandered haphazardly. And of course relegating "End of Time" to the tail end of the campaign with little fanfare was a crime. "I Was Here" was also a wasted opportunity... it could've been another "Halo" style universal hit for her with a push. I never had that sort of "what if" feeling with the BTW campaign where I think it could've gone RIGHT. "Edge of Glory" could've been released as the second single but then "Judas" or "You & I" would've floundered just as much as single #3 and the album would've had an even shorter shelf life.

4 but its singles are FAR more bearable these days and I don't get to hear them that often
Listening to Love On Top or 1+1 out of the blue it's quite a nice treat whereas the only thing that happens to me whenever I feel the first chords to BTW or Marry The Night is kick old people in wheelchairs
cat, hat; in French, chat, chapeau in Spanish, el gato in a sombrero.
I haven't heard BTW ANYWHERE for months, but then again I haven't been to a proper gay bar for ages
FEARLESS FEMALE
Was 4 really that big of a disaster?
Born This Way felt like it actively damaged her brand, and quite possibly took her from new Madonna to 00s Cyndi Lauper (depends how the next album does).
4 felt like it just consolidated Beyonce's stature, even if it didn't especially build on it.

4 was full of missed opportunities when it came to single releases.
The damage done by BTW was less to do with the singles (although Judas was obviously a clunker), and more to do with Gaga, her behaviour and more specifically with Born This Way the song.
FEARLESS FEMALE
I do have to say that the
I'm just a holy foo----JUST a HOLY Foo-OOWAAOOHHOOOOOOOHAAA
.. is quite possibly my 17th favourite Gaga moment of all time.
It's true. I often re-create it with Mariah/Gaga-esque hand gestures and vocal intonations but MINUS Gaga's clumsy, awkward and disastrously graceless choreography NATURELLEMENT.
I really hate this comparison, selling 6-7 million albums and becoming the biggest touring act of her contemporaries is not close to Cyndi Lauper levels of decline. As for her brand being damaged, you just have to look at how successful her FAME perfume campaign was, and the way she elevated a bog standard industry practice into an event, to see that there is still a healthy amount of interest in her as an artist.
She also cemented herself a huge following in Asia; Born This Way was more successful than The Fame (Monster) was, and her touring figures were ridiculous ($18m for three arena dates in Japan alone). Considering Zedd has become a popular artist there in his own right, and ARTPOP has been described as having J-Pop influences in some of the tracks, it's looking good that the next album will be her biggest yet in the market.
If you really want present day Cyndi, then you just need to look at Ke$ha's chart trajectory.
And I was rather taken aback when I head Born This Way blasting out of a La Senza store at my local shopping center. The song still inspiring two years on![]()
