It's a great little game but hindsight shows it's a tad too easy and the lack of 2P mode hurts its chances these days for me, unlike with World of Illusion.
I've been re-playing this game recently - Quackshot was one of those titles I desperately wanted for the Mega Drive but never actually owned until I (re)purchased the console last year. It's part of the Castle of Illusion/World of Illusion family and I always thought it looked really GREAT - indeed despite the obvious limitations of the console's 16-bit capability, the animation still looks fantastic.
The controls however are a little bit FLOATY - Donald seems to have been granted the ability to gently levitate rather than jump, and you'd be forgiven for thinking that he's got an invisible pair of roller skates on because STOP actually means stop-and-skid. It's quite challenging as well - there's a bit of a difficulty spike after the first three stages and whilst you're granted an infinite number of continues, you may CRY when you die just before the end of a level (which are generally quite LONG) and have to start it over again.
Nevertheless, it's definitely an above-average platforming ROMP with enough variety and gadget upgrades to remain interesting pretty much through to the end.

Trivia bit: this was Richey Edwards off the Manic Street Preachers' favourite game.
Sorry to immediately go off-topic but mentioning the Illusion games, have you seen the new Epic Mickey for the 3DS? They're making it as partly a sequel to Epic Mickey, but also Castle Of Illusionlooks pretty old-skool, i'm rather excited!
I have played Quackshot, it was alright but I never thought it was anything particularly special. But it's been a WHILE as you can IMAGINE!!
Diddy does ... An amazing blog, Eurovision 2012, Kate Bush, ABBA, Bjork, Mariah, Kylie, Alanis, Tori, Madonna, ESC 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, Banshee Xmas, Best of 09, 10, 11
I haven't seen it, no. That sounds quite interesting (but I am on the camp of the Epic Mickey haters, it did really look like a lot of rubbish)
I remember not liking this very much as a kid, mainly because we rented it and it was TOO HARD so we felt like we'd wasted our pocket moneyIt was definitely better when I emulated it a couple of years ago, but nowhere near Castle and World of Illusion (or Duck Tales on the NES
)

Loved it, haven't played it in years. I remember that hideous sound effect when you stunned enemies with the plunger. A fucking plunger.
Love it, have beat it numerous times. I only wish I could go around shooting people with plungers.
