    disco FEZ

    Comes out in about...14 hours!

Indie puzzle platformer that's been in development for about 5 years. The music is awesome.

Eurogamer gave it a 10 today, EDGE a 9 and IGN a 9.5 if it means anything to you.

What do you DO in it? That video makes it look like ROTATING SCENERY: THE GAME

That trailer is selling a LIFESTYLE, that's why you can't tell what the fuck is going on. I think the gist (if I understood it right) is that it's a 2D platformer where you can rotate the scenery to get a different perspective and uncover new paths and secrets.

I love platformers but this new wave of "adult" 2D indie games with one-word names completely bypasses me. I don't know, maybe all the WINK WINK and META-DESIGN is lost on me. Give me a good old Mario anytime.

Though isn't Paper Mario based on the same premise?

I would say Paper Mario is more IRREVERENT than HIPSTER. The game has a solid gameplay basis and can be enjoyed by kids too, whereas I think an 8-year old would be bored to tears with Braid.

It's a puzzle-platformer in which exploration is an absolute necessity.

I finished it.. about 8 hours? Didn't actually FINISH everything though, some of it is quite challenging, so I started a New Game+. The opening to FEZ (both 1st and 2nd playthrough) is fucking fantastic, best in a long time.

In a nice twist, you have to get out your pen and paper and actually translate the alphabet and numerical systems for yourself. It can be a pain at first because it's quite confusing, but it's really neat to wonder around the world translating various hints, babble, etc. No game like it this generation.

It's a very clever game and there are a few really subtle, but great, pop culture/gaming references all throughout.

I would recommend it. As I said, the music is a definite highlight, the visuals are charming and the game is quite relaxing. Just be prepared for some head-scratching moments as you figure out how the world unfolds and what the fuck to do.

    Download the trial, at least.

I played the demo, it does have that magical "this is what gamings all about feel"

I will eventually pick this one up.

I've downloaded the demo but then I got distracted and ended up playing Castle Crashers instead

Hmm well I'm not altogether convinced, it's all a bit like the gaming equivalent of Oscar bait movies, and I'm really beyond bored with retro 8-bit visuals these days.

But I'll get it and just SEE, the trial seemed ok but I feel like I've seen the perspective trick thing a lot already

It's great, huh? Quite a deceptive game, looks like the usual indie platformer on the outside, but it's a totally different game once you dig deeper.

Everyone should check out the soundtrack

Comes out on the 20th for $5, but you can preview a lot of the music on that site. So, so good.

I got the demo yesterday but I couldn't fathom how to get up and across without climbing. I'll have another try tonight.

that was sarcasm, i was quite ANNOYED!

But anyway, despite finishing the first playthrough in about 3 hours without much hassle at all (), and a rather wanky ending *fractal coma*, this is sort of addictive. I'm trogging through, trying to 'gold' all the bits in the map. On 26 Cubes, and about 12 anti-cubes at the mo

Oh the worst thing about this is the FANZZZ on help pages. Every time I've got completely stuck on a level - and it's so time consuming finding your way back to a particular place that I've been trying to clear the collectables in each room before i leave - someone has invariably asked my question somewhere online, and it's always (ALWAYS!) followed by people going "i know but it's better if you work it out for yourself"

FUCK OFF OUT OF THE HELP PAGES IF THAT'S ALL YOU ARE GOING TO SAY!

Oh I figured it out. I'm so thick sometimes.
Well I completed the demo. Its a nice little game. I think I'd get too frustrated with the whole game though

I wish Phil Fish would get his head out of his arse and a) patch this, and b) retract his "its not coming on PC" argument.

The soundtrack to this is my album of the year. Pre-ordered it within seconds of listening to it.
