I LOVE the Image Of You. I've read that it was actually considerably cut down to make the 3.00 Eurovision runtime, hence the quite schizophrenic feel. I've never found the full-length version though, it's one of my Eurovision holy grails.

Oh this has STARTED. I'm very much hoping for an appearance for Portugal 98, but am prepared to be disappointed. Pastora in the top 10 would ease my pain.
Do you have it?
nah i lose all my mp3s every few years and have to rebuild
so many lost national final classics

It's quite standard practice for Albania. I'm sure Suus was much longer too.Originally Posted by VoR

I've met him
I had hoped that Alla was in a better place now than the last time I saw him when he showed up uninvited in my country of origin and displayed questionable behavior in one of our clubs.

And to be fair to Alla, he didn't try to have sex with me at any point that I recall.OH GOD, HOW POWERFUL WAS THAT ROHYPNOL?
His friend was a bit of a cocktease on the other hand![]()
I don't even know who you mean for god's sakeBut I'm glad you got some attention.
Oh that british guy, I met him that night, he was coming with some friends of mine but I hardly talked to him, probably because I couldn't understand a a single word.

On Anjeza, is this what you're after VoR?
Ooh that's right good that is. I presume there's no english version?
So far as I know they always intended to translate it, and it needed cutting down at the same time, so I don't think there'd be a longer English version![]()
Shame, unusually for translated Eurovision songs, I find the lyrics to The Image Of You quite charming, albiet in an awkward sort of way.
70. Waldo's People - "Lose Control"
(Finland - 2009)
Last place in the final
Spoiler: Video
It's pretty rare that I feel ON BOARD with a Finnish entry, but I totally was with this mid 90s sounding Euro nonsense, straight from the E-ROTIC song book. There's a lot to love about the performance, but the gormless blonde backing singer is the clear star, taking centre stage, LSL style, to deliver "And I just can't believe it...". I do also love the lead singer's clear aspirations to be a proper singer though, singing the whole song as if she was Céline Dion out at a club in Bradford.
69. Liliane Saint-Pierre - "Soldiers Of Love"
(Belgium - 1987)
11th
Spoiler: Video
Representing your country on home soil is normally a guarantee of doing fairly well, but poor old Liliane went into the contest as one of the favourites and only managed 11th place out of 22. It's ridiculous how much better 'Soldiers Of Love' is to the Belgian winner a year earlier, the frankly hideous 'J'aime La Vie'. Thanks to Madison for turning me onto this song in the first place.
68. Laka - "Pokušaj"
(Bosnia & Herzegovina - 2008)
10th in the final
Spoiler: Video
I'm not normally into WEIRD SHIT at Eurovision, but this is not only wonderfully joyous and infectious, it's melodically beautiful too. When Laka and his sister start running around the stage as if possessed by the essence of happiness itself, it's hard not to get swept up in it all.
67. Scooch - "Flying The Flag (For You)"
(United Kingdom - 2007)
22nd in the final
Spoiler: Video
Our second UK entry of the countdown so far, and perhaps a bit of a shocker for a couple of reasons. Firstly, that it's included at all, secondly that I've placed it so low.Well, let me explain... I do absolutely adore this, but mainly because of my connection to the band and for the excitement of seeing them reformed and performing in my favourite show of all time. It was just a magical moment for me.
Objectively, I can understand why it's hated but I think it's done a better job of showcasing British culture at Eurovision than anything else we've entered since, probably, Precious. It's Carry On innuendos still tickle my funny bone, and I think it's just a lot of fun. Still, it was another total disaster for the UK and saw us languishing at the bottom of the leaderboard again. Poor Scooch.
66. Selma - "If I Had Your Love"
(Iceland - 2005)
16th in the semi final
Spoiler: Video
What should have been a triumphant return to the contest for 1999's runner-up turned to failure when this stalled in the bloodbath semi final of 2005 (26 songs! 26!) It's not too hard to understand it - the outfits were terrible and the performance in general felt a bit small in comparison to some of the pop songs that performed better, but it's still a cracking song. I much prefer it to her 1999 second placer, in fact.
I don't get Lose control at all, I find it so boring. However Flying The Flag is a must. The Spanish version with that ridiculous clapping is just TOO GOOD. But Selma would be a lot higher in my countdown, I don't care how ridiculous she looked.
Well, this got off to a solid start! "The Image of You" is one of the greatest Eurovision debuts for any country, and contains one of my all-time fave Eurovision lyrics too ("I'm Queen of the world of make believe").
Liliane is currently back in the (very nether regions of the) Flemish charts with a 25th-anniversary re-recording of "Soldiers of Love" actually. It's a Real Music version backed by just piano and acoustic guitars though, so don't get your hopes up too much.
Hey go get the doctor
Doctor came too late...
