Y'know it IS sad when people like this die, but we still have the MUSIC, so they'll never be FORGOTTEN
And WHAT MUSIC![]()
And oh...
Oh HOW MANY YEARS
Is it NOW Maurice?
And as ever I can't pass up the opportunity to say THE GREAT GAMBO is a GHOULISH CUNT of a QUEEN with the INSIGHT of a PACKET OF TAMPONS

Me: Donna Summer just died!
My intern: Who?
For those of you on moopy who are 21, my respect for you just increased tenfold. Never allow yourself to be unaware of music that preceded your birth.
I feel blessed to be of the RIGHT AGE to remember the SAW stuff as it happened... Although Christ I'd much rather have been around to own MCarthur Park...
Should this thread be in the main forum for a while?
If I'd been around during Donna's glory years, I certainly wouldn't be alive NOW!
It's been too long, it's been too long...
OH WELLIn a message posted on Facebook, Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran, paid tribute to her legacy and in particular the influence of one track. "For me, there is no doubt that her song I Feel Love had a dramatic effect on modern music. it was certainly a key influence on my work with Duran Duran.
It's not as if she wasn't responsible for a lot of REALLY GREAT THINGS AS WELL![]()

I've just heard the news and feel really sad. More than anyone else she was the one who really got me into disco music in the 70s. 'I Feel Love' was truly groundbreaking and was the most important single released in 1977. At her peak she recorded material at a breathtaking pace - between 1976 and 1980 she released 10 albums and 25 singles, an astounding amount.
R.I.P.
She got in the News at 6 HEADLINES. Justice.
Not relevant VoR? She's trending ALL OVER THE SHOP. I have to say I AGREE with Marcus Brigstocke when he says "McArthur Park' is one of his favourite EVER songs!
My one regret in 1978 was being in HMV in Newcastle, having a copy of the 'McArthur Park' US import 12" - it contained the full 17 minute 'McArthur Park suite version that appears on her 'Live And More' album - in my hands and not having enough money to buy it. It was £3.99, a lot of money back then especially when compared to UK 12" singles which were about £1.49, and I didn't get enough pocket money to be able to buy it. When I went back the following week with enough money to buy it they had sold out and never got it back in stock again.
RIP
To a place without fear, with no moonlight
The full "MacArthur Park Suite" is a PHENOMENAL piece of music. It's RIDICULOUS!
It's definitely one of my all time favourite pieces of music...
It's been too long, it's been too long...
It's also easy to remember Donna wrote a lot of her stuff too. She wasn't just a disco dolly...
It's been too long, it's been too long...
Weird choice of video the BBC have put up... She looks like Whitney here as well... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-18109961
I Will Go with You (Con te partirò) is my personal favourite. I know it's relatively insignificant in terms of what else she recorded, but I can't get enough of it. She always sang with gusto, like she meant every word, and it was a voice that made it clear she was enjoying every minute of it.
Reflected onto the wet pavement, can you see what I see?
For the record, I'd have knocked her back out.
Take your nose off my keyboard.
Was quite shocked to hear this on the news, having no idea about the cancerR.I.P. Ms Summer!
State of life, may I live, may I love
Coming out the sky, I name me a name
Coming out, silver world - for what it is
It is the very nature of the sound, the game
ShablamiDI, ShablamiDA

(Yes, I know that one is from after hertastic period, but it's one of my faves)
I only have several edits in my collection. Annoyingly the full shebang is only available on iTunes as part of The Dance Collection, and I have most of the other 12" mixes elsewhere already. Does Donna really warrant shelling out €10.99 for one track, hmmm?

Hey go get the doctor
Doctor came too late...
I Will Go With You is spectacular. It's one of my favourite songs of all time and her version is so.
I've got Endless Summer on in honour. RIP![]()
"I Will Go With You" is AMAZING...how it wasn't a mega hit, I do not know...
It's been too long, it's been too long...
oh dear. Mr L is upstairs having a little cry. BUGGER ONLY KNOWS what he'll be like when Agnetha or Frida croak.
"Last Dance" is the first of the Donna songs to re-enter the US iTunes 200, nothing yet in the UK
9:27 AM PST- TMZ has learned ... Donna died from lung cancer. Several sources are telling us Donna believed she contracted it by inhaling toxic particles after the 9/11 attack in New York City.
Easy to forget she was MUCH bigger in the US than the UK. Was it 4 or 5 #1s? And Grammy nominations by the SHEDLOAD.
She had a great streak of Gold/Platinum albums in the 70s and early 80s. But beyond that I'd say even if you're totally unaware of the woman herself you know "Hot Stuff", "She Works Hard for the Money", "Last Dance", "I Feel Love", "Love to Love You Baby", "Bad Girls" to some capacity. And those are just the massively famous/iconic ones.
