    Amerie - 1 Thing

Is it just me or was she a QoL for two minutes in the mid-2000s. She destroyed Beyonce and actually originated that Rich Harrison sound, I believe - this may come across as a "Crazy In Love" knock off but Amerie seems to have songwriting talent and was more into it.

Oh well, as flop divas goes she's at least up there with the mighty also ran and ridiculed by RiRi on twitter Ciara. Who cares if she can sing!

Please don't mention that TALENTLESS HUMAN PIECE OF SHIT CUNT with that migraine inducing horn sample stolen from an Usher reject along with those godlike pop greats, thx.

J-Lo originally wanted "1 Thing" but Amerie wouldn't let her. And she started out as a protege of her with a song on the Laid In Manhattan soundtrack, a dull cover of Miss Ross's "I'm Coming Out" or something.

    SO AWESOME!

She also sounds like Ms. J-Lo.

Oh right, just saw loomer's post. Yeah, if you'd had put J-Lo's name on it, and not bothered re-recording it, it'd have had the same affect. It was TOTALLY her.

Yes, she is screechy on this but that's not at all fair - J-Old can't write or sing (or anything else really, especially to do with music). Amerie can. That was pitched too high for her.

Her vocals on the excellent Because I Love It album far eclipse any of J-Lo's "music" as does her earlier stuff. J-Lo probably wanted Amerie to ghost/double her like she did with Christina Milian.

    Check this

This song is so good that Amer(i)ie tried to replicate it again with THIS:

I've never got the love for this.
What's confusing? We just find the heart of the prison and the dragon who speaks without walls, and we're home free. Simple.

She had another single after this, 'Touch' that was also REALLY good.

At least it worked in 2004.

oh she's had about 10 good tracks along the way to be fair - most of them from the same mould but some other changes of pace that also worked. She got an awful lot out of a limited range and she's fucking HOT. She should have had more success, but to be fair she lasted quite a while with her label considering the lack of returns. We got more music out of her than anyone could have hoped for!

Sorry, but as amazing as this song is, it does not rip through the fabric of time and space in the same way that Crazy In Love does

Cause your LOVE's got the BEST of ME
And baby you're MAKIN' a FOOL of ME
You got me SPRUNG and I don't CARE who sees
    Cause baby you GOT ME
    You GOT ME
    You GOT ME
    You GOT ME
You got me so CRAZY BABY

I LOVE this track, in fact I think it might be her best:

Short and sweet. Unbelievably it was relegated to the Because I Love It MIXTAPE.

    PREACH

Now you know I wouldn't EVER cast aspersions on the QoL/QoP/pregnancies (well except "Single Ladies" and some Destiny's shit). ESPECIALLY SoL (song of life) Crazy In Love. Best launch to a career EVA. I was just exaggerating for EFFECT as is my WONT

dead @ that tag! Better than ROL/Anna Friel, Bill Oddie put your hands all over my body.

Absolutely love it, it's MILES better than the migraine-inducing albeit charming (and UK NUMBER ONE ) "Get Right". As much as I love "1 Thing" and underplayed as it is these days , I'd probably agree that "Crazy in Love" is the better record.

Amerie's last album was pretty strong even though I seldom listen to it now, is she done for good then?

Well she did have another studio album coming out but it seems it's been scrapped for an EP called "The Prelude..."

This leaked a couple months back. Never one to change the formula but I really like it

That chorus is a bit of a non-event (no pun intended ) but I think she's still got it.

    ???

The only thing I can see to like about that is the video where she pretends to play a geek waitress. The bitch thinks she's this modern day Streisand! But Babs could ACT

Oh lol, this reminds me of

I'm sorry, Barbra AND Donna? Who does this deluded cunt think she is?! She also totally ruined Shocking Blue's/the Nanas "Venus" - finally the Nanas find a worse singer than themselves, so well played there.

    Better still

    Talentless tone deaf cunt!

Have you seen the credits of her albums and the amount of "vocal producers". Ugh.

The gobble gobble gobbles would suit turkey-face Keri Hilson far better, but this song is great, such a shame she faded into R&B flop obscurity and added an extra letter into her name for 'good vibes'.

She actually sounds a bit retarded in that "Until It Beats No More" SNL perf, who would have thought it would actually be one of the stronger tracks on the 'Love?' album?

Looking back - this was a bit over the top of us:

    It's like you're screaming . . . and no one can hear;
you almost feel ashamed . . . that someone could be that important

I remember when '1 Thing' was released and I had no idea if it was going to be a hit or not because at the time it just seemed so RANDOM. It still sounds good, she hasn't topped it but atleast she added that extra i in her name to give her somewhat of a NEW IMAGE.
