I'm glad they put the main version of My Baby on there. I would hate for it to be an edit.

The only thing representing her last three albums: "My Baby", "Out From Under"

And only four actual singles on the entire track list.

    BIZARRE

This looks EERILY similar to Slave's Britney list from a few years back. I wonder if he's dating the new head of Sony.

Thankfully in this parallel reality Brave New Girl & Anticipating were singles. AS IT SHOULD BE.

Britney's first budget release, entitled "Oops! I Did It Again - The Best Of Britney Spears," showcases an alternative side to her back catalogue when compared to previous compilations. With just five of the tracks having been released as singles, and only three of them released in all territories, the album focuses heavily on album and international edition bonus tracks from 2000's "Oops!...I Did It Again," 2001's "Britney" and 2003's "In The Zone," with just "My Baby" and "Out From Under" taken from her post-2003 recordings.

“Oops! I Did It Again - The Best Of Britney Spears” Track Listing:

    1. "Oops!...I Did It Again" (Produced by Max Martin and Rami) 3:31
    2. "...Baby One More Time" (Produced by Max Martin and Rami) 3:30
    3. "I'm A Slave 4 U" (Produced by The Neptunes) 3:23
    4. "Born To Make You Happy" Radio Edit (Produced by Kristian Lundin) 3:35
    5. "Cinderella" (Produced by Max Martin and Rami) 3:39
    6. "Brave New Girl" (Produced by Brian Kierulf and Josh Schwartz) 3:30
    7. "The Hook Up" (Produced by Trixter) 3:54
    8. "Don't Hang Up" (Produced by Brian Kierulf and Josh Schwartz) 4:02
    9. "One Kiss From You" (Produced by Steve Lunt and Larry Campbell) 3:23
    10. "Anticipating" (Produced by Brian Kierulf and Josh Schwartz) 3:16
    11. "What It's Like To Be Me" (Produced by Justin Timberlake) 2:50
    12. "My Baby" (Produced by Guy Sigsworth) 3:20
    13. "Out From Under" (Produced by Guy Sigsworth) 3:54
    14. "You Got It All" (Produced by Eric Foster White) 4:09
    15. "Showdown" (Produced by Bloodshy & Avant) 3:17
    16. "That's Where You Take Me" (Produced by Brian Kierulf and Josh Schwartz) 3:32
I guess if it's a budget release it will be aimed at supermarket shoppers who pick it up, look at the first few hits and decide it's worth a fiver or whatever.

This is an official release somehow, who came up with that tracklist?

amazon.fr only EUR 6,95 for the CD.

Back then they released compilations by Ace of Base "The Collection" etc. also for 5 € and the tracklists were also very random I think.

Where are they even getting this from? I wonder how many people will buy it having just read the first 4 tracks and presuming the rest are hits?

Great to see Cinderella getting to recognition though

The somewhat inclusion of b-side/bonus track "Don't Hang Up" is welcome news though, what a lovely little song that is.

    Oh my GOD.

This is one of the best Britney tracklists EVER (well, not REALLY, but in terms of random overlooked tracks, it's rather SPESHUL)

    Brave New Girl
    Don't Hang Up
    One Kiss From You
    Anticipating
    My Baby
    Showdown
    That's Where You Take Me

I still don't really get it. If you're going to release an album of "rarities" why stick four of your biggest singles on it?

That's just the BLURB. It's not rarities REALLY. Everything on it has been released before, hasn't it? If it WAS a proper rarities release it would be aimed squarely at (and only appeal to) the hardcore fans and wouldn't be a mid price release.

It's quite clearly a mid price release to appeal to the supermarket/casual buyer. Like NTA says, they will look at the tracklisting, recognise the big hits stacked at the front and will either assume some of the others are hits, or just not care. Flogging a few more to the hardcore loons is just a bonus.

But why not just stick out a normal greatest hits? I know she's had a couple already, but if it's aimed at the casual supermarker shopper they won't know/care about that, and they're a lot more likely to say, "Oh it's got 'Boys' on it, I liked that one" than "Oh it's got 'My Baby (Main Version)' on it, I liked that one".

'Boys' will mean NO MORE to the casual supermarket shopper than 'My Baby'. Or at least to the market they are aiming this at. This gives her a place in the mid price range that at present she hasn't got. Look at how Abba's 18 Hits is always there and troubles the lower end of the chart fairly frequently.

I agree that it's aimed at the casual supermarket shopper - a lot of the tracks included are quite mid-tempo, sweet, nothing too raunchy.

It also potentially softens her image a bit for X Factor - 'I'm not always a slut!'

No but it's an impulse buy on the first few tracks, and then they get it home.

But an impulse buy would be more effective with more recognisable tracks surely!? Sorry, I'm not arguing, I just simply don't get it.

Because you're thinking from the perspective of someone who is a lot more aware of Britney's music than the casual supermarket buyer. This is aimed at people who AREN'T AWARE of tracks like 'Boys', 'Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know' or 'Do Somethin'. Or at least wouldn't be aware of them until someone reminded them of it. People who ARE aware of those will know damned well they can go to HMV, Fopp, amazon or wherever and pick those up for a fiver on one of her existing compilations ANYWAY.

So it's for the people who aren't Britney fans, I get that - but why hit them with a bunch of unknown album tracks instead of singles they might just recognise (even if it's just the titles)? That's what I don't get.

Is it cheaper for them to exclude some of the bigger hits on Greatest Hits like this? As surely you would be tempted to throw on one or two more actual singles if it's just the case of throwing it out there in any case

There's also the underlying issue of 'My Baby' being absolutely FUCKING SHIT.

Apart from that the tracklisting does look alright. If it's cheap enough, I might think about it.

It's just licencing. The record labels will only allow a handful of actual hits on things like this so they don't compete with 'official' releases down the line. There'll be no promo for this and it'll never be acknowledged as part of her 'canon'. Like lolly said, it's purely to extract some cash from brain-dead supermarket impulse buyers.

It's not like these mid price compilations are anything NEW. In the days of Woolworths, Boots & WHSmith having huge record departments there were loads of them exactly the same; a few big hits and then stuffed with filler. Perhaps in these days of there being so few shops to actually buy the physical, it doesn't happen so often.

Oh, and yes I realise my earlier example of Abba's '18 Hits' was pretty shitty, considering it does pretty much contain EXACTLY THAT.

Ah right - that makes sense then. I'm still a bit confused though.

Fair enough then. I was a bit confused by your '18 Hits' comparison I'll admit. I've no idea what's on '18 Hits' but I was thinking, "How can Abba release a CD called '18 Hits' if it's full of unknown album tracks?!"

I've seen a couple of similar compilations such as the Mariah one including the SUPER SMASH HITS X-Girlfriend and Rainbow (Interlude) or Kylie's one including the #1 world wide smash Dangerous Game. These never include official singles, and what's most annoying most of the times is when they include rubbish REMIX versions of the songs you would rather have the original versions from (Hello Billie Pipper and Samantha Mumba )

I was so upset when I downloaded that Sam Mumba compilation and it had some crap remix of "Gotta Tell You" on it instead of the original
