URGH. I was kind of HOPING this would be in Stockholm. Unsure what to do. Don't think I'll book anything until I KNOW that I can get tickets.
I WILL GET REAL GRIMEY. I WILL START CUTTIN' UP CLOTHES.
I know loads of people who go to Eurovision and dont get tickets for the final. The semis are actually more exciting anyway in the arena - the qualifier reveal is much more intense. Well for me anyway.
Eurovision is all about being there anyway. So I'd still go if you can't get tickets...
Well what I meant was BEING THERE is the important thing. Going to EuroClub, meeting some of the artists, dancing to Eurovision songs, chatting with other Eurovision LOONS...The show kinda comes second... Sounds strange I know...Originally Posted by Dinlo

More issues, Israel are threatening to pull out due to security concerns.
Israel – The embassy of Israel in Sweden has threatened that Israel may withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest 2013, if strong security measures required by its delegation will not be granted by Swedish national broadcaster SVT. Israel is concerned about the situation in the host city of 2013, Malmö, which had made headlines especially in 2009 for anti-Israeli protests and riots.
According to Aftonbladet.se the Malmö’s high percentage of Arab immigrant population continues to cause tensions between Jews and Muslims in the city. The tensions reached their climax when a Jewish boy was murdered for no reason. In 2009 a tennis match of the Davis Cup between Israel and Sweden was initially cancelled by the local governments. The International Tennis Association insisted on having the game played, however, but it was decided not to allow an audience into the stadium. Anti-Israel sentiment was especially high due to the Gaza war going on at the time. During the game over 6000 demonstrators for peace and the freedom of the Palestinians marched through the city. A group of about 100 went on to the tennis arena and tried to enter the premises. The result were clashes between these rioters and the police.
“We hope that Malmö has learned from its mistakes and we demand strict security guarantees during the festival period, in order to prevent issues as happened during the Davis Cup 2009. If not we will consider not to participate in the Contest in 2013, ” Patrik Lund, press manager of the Israeli embassy told the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. The spokesperson for the city of Malmö responded to the demands by saying: “It was 2009 and Israel was in full conflict with the Palestinians during the Gaza war. That was the only reason for what happened. The situation is different now.” The producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 also thinks the security demands are exaggerated: “The Israeli delegation receives extra protection each year during the contest, I see no reason for extra measures in comparison with the previous host cities.” He adds: “We look into every single case and ensure that each participant and fan can come to Malmö in safety in oder to experience a great time here
Interesting, but I think this is probably over exaggerated. I've been to Malmö twice and I haven't noticed any problems. Sure it has some dodgy areas, but then so does practically every large city, and I doubt any of the delegations will be visiting them, maybe apart from the Moldovans who won't be able to afford to stay in the normal hotels (Pasha and the delegation stayed in the same hotel as me in Baku and it was a cheap hotel way out in the suburbs!)
And Azerbaijan is a Muslim country and there were no issues, so I think this is all just a storm in a teacup...
Azerbaijan and Israel are really strong allies.

Poor MoldovaI'm so glad they usually qualify.
So the latest news is that there will only be one host for the entire contest. They'll be more integrated into the whole show than previous hosts have been.
SVT have also said that there will be four "core values" to this contest:
- Create real curiosity
- Create "wow" moments
- Create true relationships
- Create passion that lasts
More here and here.
All very admirable but I'm getting horrible vibes that this contest could be a BIG DULL WORTHY DUD.
Don't let me down Sweden!
Why?
I think it's all very promising so far...I think the fact they've chosen a considerably smaller venue than recent contests shows that they're clearly confident of putting on a great show regardless.
No LEDS, tiny venue, a more fully integrated (read: More prominent) host, all that stuff about bringing it back to basics...
I'm probably just panicking over nothing, but it sounds like it could all come across a bit CHEAP and DREARY.

All that reads to me like they're going to compensate by injecting it with CHARACTER and personality; something that has been considerably lacking in recent years. At least I hope so anyway...I'm fairly confident though. This will be the London 2012 to Baku's Bejing 2008.
As long as THE FLOW is there I'm FINE WITH IT.
Nothing to see here MOVE ALONG.
HELLO
How's the FLOW?
PRECISELY.
Nothing to see here MOVE ALONG.
Anyways, Lynda Woodruf would be WONDERFUL but it would be too much of a comedy ónslaught.
Hence I'm crossing my fingers for PETRA MEDE![]()

I want LENA PHILIPSSON to present if she isn't BACK BACK BACK. Or at least be an interviewer. Let's face it, the look of UTTER DISDAIN on her face as she conducts a half arsed green room interview with someone from Moldova is going to be WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD
Yes, Lynda Woodruff MUST be involved too, but not as a solo presenter. Would be too much...
It's been too long, it's been too long...
Oh good lord, I don't know why anybody would think a Lynda Woodruff presented Eurovision would be a good idea. However I still say that SDF is the best choice to present and as far as I'm concerned, she's probably the frontrunner. Then Lynda can still have a presence without it being overkill.
I really liked Oslo, so I'd be happy with no LEDs. Eurovision in the last few years has tended to be far too big for 6 performers.
How's Lena's english? (or FRENCH for that matter).
I haven't heard any rumours that she's even in contention (Names that have been seriously bandied about have been Gina Dirawi, Sarah Dawn Finer and Mans Zelmerlow so far...) but needless to say I'd LOVE IT.

I'm certainly intrigued by what I've read regarding the apparent scaling back of the production, and I like the sound of it. Like others have said, it very much does sound like London 2012 to Beijing's 2008.
And yes, as far as Lynda Woodruff is concerned, she would be FAR too much as a presenter for the whole thing. I loved what she did this year, and would like a fair bit more, but the whole thing would be overkill, and I don't think it would work at all to the vast majority of viewers.
As much as I'd like this, I'm not sure how well it would work, since Sarah Dawn Finer is after all, not a comedienne. Yes she's got good comic timing, but this would involve a lot of improv in character, which is a whole other kettle of fish. It would have to be FUNNY for there to be a point to it and I'd not be totally sure of her being up to it.
Just slot in a few Lynda VTs during the commercial breaks; I'd imagine Brits would appreciate her more than most anyway.
And yes I realise that post succeeded in completely sucking the fun out of the whole Lynda thing.![]()
If Gina is as funny in English as she is in Swedish she'd be great for the green room, if perhaps a bit too deadpan to carry the whole thing.
Ooooh CONTROVERSIAL. Or Brilliant?
The entire running order this year will be decided by producers, with only Sweden's starting position being decided by a draw.
Full article here
Oh apparently it has also been decided in advance that Norway and Denmark will perform in separate semi-finals.
