ULTIMATE Britney Spears Survivor: Round 1

Yes, after months of treading through each album we've come to this special point where we rank the best of the best. And unlike a couple of those albums, I don't see an obvious winner of the bunch. And I'm not even sure I know which one I'd like to win quite yet.

So as always, start by voting for your LEAST FAVORITE.

Was debating between "Stronger" and "Overprotected" but went with the former. "Stronger" is definitely the much more important Britney hit of the two but I probably listen to it the least out of the eight winners. "Overprotected" really is an example of poor timing, I think. It had all the ingredients of being a Britney classic and had an excellent video, the lyrics were perfect for her at the time and it's another perfect MM production to boot but it came at a time when radio was avoiding anything Britney-related which is evident by "I'm a Slave 4 U"'s relative underperformance. And "I'm Not a Girl..." being released so closely after did not help.

"And Then We Kiss" was the only new track on the 'B In The Mix: The Remixes' album - it won the 'K-Fed Years' Survivor that included all her '04-'06 releases.

It's perhaps the only essential Britney moment to come out of that 'wilderness' era:

And Then we Kiss (Britney Spears) by Sponge_Bob

I love it so much, if you like "Breathe on Me", "Unusual You", "Touch of My Hand", it's certainly for you

And Then We Kiss is AMAZING. Overprotected and Stronger are by far the weakest. I don't really understand how they won.
What's confusing? We just find the heart of the prison and the dragon who speaks without walls, and we're home free. Simple.

Don't worry, Christian. We've got an 'Episodes of Britney & Kevin: Chaotic Survivor' coming soon

"And When We Kiss" is fine but nothing more. Just because it's obscure doesn't make it amazing by any stretch. The other two songs are absolute top drawer pop of the highest order and no mistake.

'And Then We Kiss' for me.

Was it a deliberate re-write of 'Girls and Boys'?

I'd love to hear the reaction on here if "Stronger" and "Overprotected" had been relegated to b-side status!

"Lucky" really was startlingly prescient in retrospect, wasn't it?

I was never a fan of Overprotected actually. I think it's a pretty weak rehash. Stronger, however, is possibly my favourite Britney song. Just INCREDIBLE.

'Stronger' has really grown on me, I think it sounds better now than it did at the time, if only because it was just part of the sheer onslaught of releases from her and when you're still getting over that incredible run of singles from 'Sometimes' to 'Oops!...I Did It Again', there's not really enough time to appreciate something a bit less OBVIOUS.

Yeah, the incredible run of singles started with SOMETIMES.

A rehash perhaps but her team were never one to shy away from that. Plus the lyrics were brilliantly apposite for her situation at the time.

"I don't need nobody telling me just what I WANNA/What I WHAT-WHAT-WHAT I'm gonna/Do about my destiny" really is a moment in pop and a half.

It's fabulous! The fact that that OH SO early 2000s treated-as-if-phoned-in-from-the-Azores-effect moment tells us that "this is it, this is it!" really makes it for me. None of it was accidental!

'Overprotected' was a pretty big hit in the UK, more than it was given credit for anyhow.

They were both In The Zone rejects, weren't they? Not sure which came first.

Anyway although they share some similar production values, "And Then We Kiss" really TOWERS above it.

Just like Madge's run of excellence began with "Hanky Panky"

I don't love it because it's obscure. The other two weren't huge successes if I remember correctly. That doesn't make them automatically bad of course, but I just highly prefer Oops!.. I Did It Again and I'm a Slave 4 U.

But personal preference aside, surely the fact that they won their respective knockouts is entirely understandable?!

Oh, that's what you meant. I can understand people loving them, but I didn't exect them to beat the other two, especially I'm a Slave 4 U. I thought that one would be more loved. Stronger beating Oops! might be not as surprising.

All gthis 'Stronger' and 'Overprotected' talk and they've currently got 14% of the total votes between them

ATWKiss for me. It's great, but the weakest link. Though I'd say Gimme More will be next for me
