I don't really understand why I Wanna it that hated.
I like it! It's not really my cup of tea - needs more botox, gratuitous key changes and stench of desperation - but it's obviously a good song and I don't resent it doing well at all.
Sorry to keep harping on about my ultimate Eurovision Bête noire, but that they only came third with that and then bloody WON with that Marie N dirge goes a long way to explaining why Latvia has largely stuck to joke entries since 2003.

What's confusing? We just find the heart of the prison and the dragon who speaks without walls, and we're home free. Simple.
IT'S SHIT
SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT
If it had finished 7th I could overlook it, but it beat out SO MANY better songs and I am FOREVER BITTER
Even the 2001 winner at least has some strange appeal that made it stand out. I Wanna is just a horribly watered down and charmless europop song that somehow beat out a load of clearly much better ones.
IRA LOSCO 4EVER IN MY HEART.
I REALLY want you to see the error of your ways in your 2002 journey Dinlo. It's not going to happen, is it?
*Ira Losco 21st, Afro-Dite 17th, Jessica Garlick 14th, Sahlene 6th, Marie N #1, VoR carted away on a stretcher*
But there was CROSS-DRESSING and a COSTUME CHANGE![]()
My 16 year-old rubbish-gai self LIVED for that shit
From what I remember I'm not that keen on Jessica Garlick, so you're ON COURSE so far!
As I said in another thread, it was my Eurovision watershed year and 16 year old VoR was APOPLECTIC WITH RAGE.
Interesting that we're the same age. We're like the Prince and the Pauper, only in terms of Eurovision taste rather than birthright and prospects of an early death from cholera.
I remember when the votes were coming in I had ALREADY forgotten Latvia and I couldn't for the life of me remember which it was. When she did her reprise I was like: "THAT? SERIOUSLY?"
It's a miracle I even tuned in for 2003 I was so disillusioned. I think Suomi had a similar but even more intense experience when Gina G lost to Eimear Quinn.
LOL at the thought of our 16 year-old selves going 'YES!'/'NOOOOO!' at exactly the same timeI did genuinely want her to win, it's one of my few concrete memories of Eurovision pre-2010, along with Dancing Lasha Tumbai and Dana International.
An early death by cholera could still be a possibility for me.
Anyway 2001 soon? I'm not AS emotionally invested in that year you might be relieved to know, but the collective wrath of the Moopy homosexuals may well drive you away forever if you're not on-board with Natasha St Pier. I genuinely struggle to think of a more universally adored Eurovision song on here. Batten down the hatches when you're writing that dismissive write-up where you place it in 19th.

2001 is probably my LEAST favourite Eurovision year EVER. Hardly any decent songs. Greece, Slovenia, Sweden, France... Erm.... Maybye Germany.
I thought it was pretty highly regarded! In addition to the ones you mentioned I love The Netherlands (MARVELLOUS opener), Malta, Denmark and I even have a soft spot for poor old plucked-from-behind-the-Boots-counter Lindsay Dracass.
It's no 2003 though.![]()

Even if the rest of the entries consisted Dima Bilan album tracks, the holy trinity of Je n'ai que mon âme, Energy and I Would Die For You would make 2001 well worth the asking price.
2001 is of course also notable for the sole (to-date) appearance on the Eurovision stage of Miss SHIRLEY CLAMP![]()

Hidden boob glitter > Some Sally Bowles knock-off
Both awful.
I'm so glad that I all the shows I missed, it was that one.
A normal person must
Dismiss you with disgust
And weep for those who trusted you.
And Marie N TOTALLY would struggle to qualify if she entered that dog of a track nowadays. Definitely one which got the crown off a very lucky draw and being vaguely on trend musically at the time.
7th Wonder wouldn't do any better.

7th Wonder's DEEPLY dated by now but I'd hope it could still scrape into the final.
I'm tempted to do 2003 in here. The year, when I became a fan.

I didn't know 'My star' is from eurovision. I'm a terrible fan![]()

I would just like to say that ESC 2001 is KILLING ME
Can't I just FLUSH the LOT? A dozen songs so far, and only TWO are uptempoooow. And one of them was fucking ESTONIA![]()
Do you do it in Alphabetical order? Slovenia and (shocker) Sweden are fun uptempos. I really like Malta too, but I'm probably in the minority.
Yeah, the first half of alphabetical order wasn't impressive last year, and this year it's worse. I have, however, just listened to Latvia for the first time, so I'm in a better place. Next up, SKAMP!![]()
I also love Malta, but (to me) it's surprising how few people seem to like it.
