    Kelly Clarkson covers "Everytime"

    Actual performance starts around 1:55

I must say I've always wanted to hear another big pop act cover this (my favorite Britney song). And I think Kelly hits the nail on the head when she says why Britney's version is so good - "she sounds so sad ". I like Kelly's version of it but I have to say it lacked a bit of the anguish and heartache Britney's version had. And I'm not championing the original vocal from a technical standpoint (as really none of Britney's other ballads have a fraction of "Everytime's" emotion) but it was so weird hearing someone wail possibly the most tender and eerie part of the song "At night I pray, that soon your face will fade away"

I don't know any other female act that seems to tour as extensively as Kelly. Maybe it's because she seems to change her set list up a lot but her voice is so but I thought that was pretty darn good.

I think Everytime is one of my favourite Britney songs as well. I miss ballad Britney.

Everytime is my favourite Britney song, and Kelly is clearly a better vocalist, but as she herself says, Britney's version is better. It probably helps that Britney doesn't have people WOOPing and HOLLERing through it.

I guess it's verging on mid-tempo, quirky pop uptempo but compared to everything else on Femme Fatale it certainly comes across as the ballad type. I was also considering the likes of "And Then We Kiss" and "Early Mornin'" but realized the former is on a remix album and the latter is more skanky than torchy.

    Erm, NOT a ballad...

Ballad means slow tempo, which this song ain't got!

    I don't like this much.

I love Kelly, but does she need to belt at the end of every ballad she sings?

Not a patch on the Britney version - which is probably one of my favourite tracks of hers.
    It's like you're screaming . . . and no one can hear;
you almost feel ashamed . . . that someone could be that important

Well I can only echo what others have said, it's a nice version but lacking in any real emotion, something which the original has lots of.

Well, I defined my Britney ballads list as one that simply does not feature uptempos which "He About to Lose Me" is not so it fits.

If you still disagree then replace it with "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" and we're all happy

I'm so pleased to know other people love this song and appreciate it as one of Britney's best! I think it was the first time in Britney's career that we actually saw the real Britney, and then of course, she went properly nuts. I know it's not "her" song in terms of pen and pencil but it couldn't match her mentality better. Lyrically, I think it's actually beautiful and there's a little bit after the first chorus when she sighs and it's just so upsetting!

Edit: ...But the tinny production is vile!

i can get on board with this
was rewatching the video recently, it's still very good - take the scene of the mother delivering her baby (obvious much), britters' cheeto legs when she's running down the hall and her coming out of the tub at the end and you'd have an absolutely perfect video

The video has a certain poignancy now, when you consider that it was actually the death of Britney as we knew her...

I thought she did co-write it. With only one other as well, so I assume she possibly had a significant part in it (given it was her 'peak' for creative involvement)?

The co-writer was Annette Artani who represented Cyprus at Eurovision in 2006!

The song was written and composed by Britney herself initially and then Annette Artani contributed a few additional lyrics afterward:
