Berbere (used in spicy/hot Ethiopian dishes) is my new favorite. I will rate as many as I can this evening.

10 Chili Pepper - all over cheese on toast mmm
    01 Cinnamon - yuck
    00 Clove - vile

    ?? Dill
    ?? Fennel
    ?? Fenugreek
    ?? Frankincense
    ?? Galangal
    10 Garlic
07 Ginger - wouldn't use it in many things but it's nice with prawns

08 Allspice - A new one for me for oh twelve, the more I've delved into Carribean cooking the more I've been using this. Great spice.
05 Ajwain - Think I bought a bag of this from the Asian supermarket in Headingley back in the LS6 days but can't say its a staple in my cupboard. Given it a 5 for nostalgia
    00 Anise -
    00 Black Cumin - Who?
10 Black Pepper - How can anyone not like black pepper? More a condiment IMO but it goes on EVERYTHING I cook
05 Caraway Seed - 1 use: red cabbage
    07 Cardamom - Love it.
    00 Cassia
05 Cayenne - Always forget to buy it.
-1 Celery Seeds - Worst spice in the cupboard.
11 Chili Pepper - Always going to get my 11, I lessthanthree chilli
    06 Cinnamon
    05 Clove
    07 Coriander
08 Cumin - Chillis would be pathetic without cumin
-- Dill - Erm, hello? Dill = herb. Not having that
    06 Fennel
    05 Fenugreek
00 Frankincense - What is this, Bethlehem?
    08 Galangal - Great root
10 Garlic - A permanent fixture in my life
    10 Ginger - As above
00 Horseradish - Love it, but wrong thread.
    11 Jalapeño Pepper - See chilli, NOM x 21938293872
08 Juniper Berries - Great in a Jús
    00 Liquorice - ERM?
00 Mace - in your face
    08 Mustard - Love a drop
06 Nutmeg - Once ate 2 whole nutmegs ground up to get high, tasted like saw dust, fucked me up. True story.
    -- Onion - NOT a spice.
08 Paprika - Like cayenne its often lacking in my cupboard but vital in Spanish ting
00 Peppercorns - See black pepper
06 Saffron -Saffron Saffron Saffron, people bum you for your preciousness but you're just OK in some things. Get it wrong and you taste like tinfoil. Average spice.
    00 Savory - EH?
    06 Sesame
08 Star Anise - Star Anise not only looks the coolest of the spices but has a great flavour, thanks to Heston for suggesting its addition to a chilli, super nom.
07 Sumac - Recent discovery of mine, highly rated.
    00 Tabasco Pepper
    09 Tamarind - Fruity bastard.
07 Turmeric - Love you man.

I guess Onion could be referring to Onion Seeds (which are ACE and also known as Nigella seeds) but the other omissions on the list suggest it's just not a very good list.

Nigella seeds seem to get called both:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigella_sativa

But, yes, the inclusion of both must mean that they mean powdered onion. Just WHY?
