Well it's a 16 page comic book - not a magazine like Private Eye.

Two reported dead in hostage situation in Paris kosher supermarket.
Gunman in Paris store linked to killing of policewoman yesterday.
Links also established between that killer and the Charlie Hedbo gunmen.
Separate hostage situation in Danmartin-en-Goele, northeast of Paris where police are trying to ‘neutralise’ the Charlie Hebdo suspects .
One person has been taken hostage by the Kouachi brothers.
Police have made contact with them, while schools in the area have been evacuated.

The latest from AFP on those two shop suspects – who are they were named as Amedy Coulibaly, 32, and Hayat Boumeddiene, 26, and are considered “armed and dangerous”. At least two people have been killed in the stand-off at the grocery store, according to official sources.

France24 reports that Coulibaly is linked to the two attackers in the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

So the brothers have been killed. Shame - rotting in jail for the rest of their lives, without martyrdom, would have been a harsher punishment.

French Interior Ministry denying reports that 2 people were killed at the grocery. What's happening there now?

Explosions heard at the deli - some hostages seen escaping. I hope the Interior Ministry denials that other hostages had been killed are true.

France is having a 'march of unity' this Sunday. The Front National have been asked to stay away - Marine Le Pen capitalising on this already, claiming that the powers that be are trying to use French grief for their own gain.

I loathe her and her party but I think it's a mistake to keep them away - they are currently the most popular party in French polls and they will use this to further stoke up anger and hatred.

Quite. I believe in the right to say it all but it doesn't mean I'm going to put SHIT SATIRE on a pedestal, especially when so much of the humour is just bollocks stereotypes.

That's a pretty good conclusion by the French security forces. Bring on the fight against the tsunami of crap this is going to stimulate.

I've just defriended this middle-aged slag on Facebook for stating that she thinks it's perfectly OK to monitor all muslims, because during the 1980s there was a report made to the police in the Home Counties about an Irish guy renting a room on a week by week basis. The police ignored it and 2 months later there was an IRA bomb on a trainline 12 miles away.

BBC are reporting another hostage situation in southern France, in a jewelry shop.

Thank god there wasn't 24 hour news when the IRA were in their prime.

    Shit. What's that about?

Although the IRA comparison is not all that accurate - their attacks were often warned about in advance, and they were a specific fairly small group. These terrorists are so much more random and unmonitorable.

I comfort myself by thinking that these attacks are horrific but random and unlikely, and that car accidents kill more people than these folk ever could.

Then I buy a cooked rotisserie chicken from the Egyptian butcher on the corner. And eat the entire thing in 1 sitting.

    You even ate the bones?

I wasn't comparing the IRA to the islamic supremacist brigade but had there been 24 hour news and twitter when Gerry and Martin were in action they'd have milked it for all it was worth.

Morocco. I thought I'd get that out of the way before I visit Israel, just in case they check the stamps in my passport.

I really want to go to Israel but I feel the same way about blocking myself off for being able to visit various despot regimes round the world.

However, so an Israeli tells me, the security forces on the Israeli border love asking grilling inappropriate questions, especially if you've been to enemy countries. I'm looking forward to it.

Very true. Although I'd also like a Cypriot one. Dual nationality would suit me.

Indeed, I went to Iran in 2006 and renewed my pasport for a trip to Israel in 2007 and no questions were asked.
