Just breaking, no reports of fatalities yet, but the shooter is alleged to still be in there with hostages. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/36510272
Two Drag Race queens were at the club: Kenya Michaels and Roxxxy Andrews. Roxxxy confirmed on her facebook that she's safe, no word from Kenya yet This is two shootings in Orlando in two days, right? Edit: I see now it says that in the article
God how awful. Just woke up to this my friend is always down there on a Saturday night no word yet if he was last night . I know that downtown orlando is dead rough anyway but the facade of the tourist bit always hides that but still
Fingers crossed he gave it a miss yesterday. When you hear about something like this it sounds so alien and unbelievable - actually having a connection to the place or people involved makes the whole thing brutally real.
A woman I used to work with was a victim of the Tunisia shootings. Even though she was only really a passing acquaintance, it really messed me up because all of a sudden this bizarre, unconscionable tragedy had a human face attached, if that makes sense.
That's so horrible. I'd left Tunisia two days before the massacre and flew from Sousse where the shooting happened. Last year was a fucking horrible for terror attacks for me.
He's alive thankfully but has friends down there still . I suspect this won't be classed as a terror attack if it's a "disturbed white man"
Has there been any info on the shooter yet? As a side note, if I hear any rhetoric from the American media like 'this wouldn't have happened if everyone in the club was armed', I'll fucking spit.
Well we're all used to that by this stage. Although community centre attack never quite made it to terror attack. "mass shooting" for whites, "terror" from Muslims.
From what I can gather, I think this is a meme - seems the same guy gets wrongfully associated with most of these incidents Edit: yep hoax http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/people/sam-hyde
Horrible: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">UPDATE: Mother outside reports her son inside the club texted 'he's rounded us up and he's going to kill us' <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/FloridaShooting?src=hash">#FloridaShooting</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Pulse?src=hash">#Pulse</a></p>— Rav Vadgama (@TVRav) <a href="https://twitter.com/TVRav/status/741929233191194625">June 12, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Shooter described as "not from this area" and an implication he may have had "leanings" towards Islamic terrorists' ideology
The bomb vest, the hostages and the shoot out did scream it was a bit more ISIS than internal. They seem to have developed a trademark style. Which of course will be horrendous that they've targeted gay community. Obviously anyone targeting them is shit whoever did it, but as part of an ideology is just gross.
Is this just life now for the US? If they didn't do anything after Sandy Hook, surely nothing will ever cause action?
It's not even a lack of public will. The NRA have too many Senators bought out for anything to happen. Not even the 2nd Amendment either - it's not like it covers the right to carry an assault rifle (without background checks!).
Is she likely to be able to do anything more than Obama could? Genuine question as I'm not a politics queen (well, I like to think I know more than your average braindead but less than the average Moopy poster)
