The repressed memory allegation comes from Singer's lawyer, not the alleged victim.

And apparently Singer has paid many people off.

We all know that paying someone off who makes allegations creates so much doubt about the innocence of the accused.

I hope Mira gets a massive comeback role out of all this... (preferably not in Bad Santa 3 though)

How many moral panics have claimed just the 'right' number of culprits and dealt the 'right' severity of punishment?

At least Bjork can feel vindicated now Catherine Deneuve has shown her true colours AGAIN.

I'm very glad this is all happening, but I could do without every female director and actress having to self-flagellate for the press for working with Harvey Weinstein/Woody Allen.

People tend to forget that for every libertine french there are a few VIEILLE France rigid cunts. And that bitch is just one of them. She had a few rancid 'opinions' during the gay marriage debate, so this doesn't surprise me.

The past few days, we've had quite a few personalities spewing some awful shit on telly, like how poor men are now afraid to look at women and how rape is enjoyed by some women since some of them have orgasms :manson:

I've been watching interview clips of Rose McGowan non-stop these past two weeks since she's been promoting her book, which lays out the Harvey encounter in full detail. She's clearly very damaged on every level. Her Citizen Rose documentary, aired on E!, is also a very engaging watch:

And here is a very uncomfortable clip of her getting (unfairly) berated by a trans woman for only being a cis white woman advocate, and her lashing out right back:

The trans female in the video is a fucking idiot. Rose is a white cis woman. Deal with it, we can't fight every battle.

Yes, if it's going to be all people bang on about. Where has this "cis" thing even popped up from? I don't see how it's necessary.

I tolerate it, despite finding the general vibe of a lot of contemporary issues repetitive, over stated and rather tedious, because I believe that they are parts of a greater fight of liberalism that must be won in the face of a tide of regressive, bigoted and cruel politics.

As a gay man who remembers Section 28 and legal inequality really quite well, I couldn't think of anything worse than shutting up now that the issues are mainstream, gaining attention and results, by doing so risking all the momentum. I couldn't claim to be liberal if I denied women and trans people the same fight, that gay people have seen success with, the last few decades.

Well is it not counteracting what trans people are trying to achieve? It feels that labelling someone as cis is shining the spotlight on there being a difference again. I thought we were trying to remove labels, not encourage more.

I don't think there's much consensus regarding labels.

"Cis" is to "trans" what "straight" is to "gay". It's basically the same thing as in the 80's with people objecting to being labelled "straight". I'm not fond of "cis" and I'm even less fond of "cishet", mainly because I detect people trying to use them as insults. There is nothing wrong with being heterosexual and not having to deal with the outright fucking hell that is being trans in the same way that there is nothing wrong with being gay, trans, bi, pan, non-binary etc. I have yet to understand "genderfluid" but I'm sure the right person will educate me at some point.

The media is stirring it deliberately and, as Ag points out, any gay person who remembers Section 28, inequality and the co-opting of AIDS as a reason to bully the gay community should be very cautious about going "ugh, this again..." without seeing the obvious parallels and the fact that, if they succeed in sidelining trans people legally and institutionally, you WILL be next on the agenda.

I think it's less about consensus and more about people looking for their own ways to define themselves, rather than being tied to language being created for them and applied to them, like it or not. Some of these will take with the mainstream, some will be alternative, some will remain as good as underground. One thing that does annoy me is transphobes who give it "ugh, stop making up words" as if language never evolves. If you asked someone 20 years ago if they had wi-fi, they'd have punched you in the face just to be on the side of safety.

On topic: I see Dylan Farrow is being dragged through the mud again, this time by the New York Times. Imagine going through something like that only for journalists who know exactly fuck all to start giving it, "yeah, you made that up".

The trans woman was immediately called out on social media by a stream of (then) teenage girls who accused her of assaulting them as children.

Although even if they hadn't, why is McGowan responsible for all issues relating to all women?

Her mother is an absolute fruitloop though and (not that I am in any way justifying Allen entering into a relationship with his partner's [legal] daughter but) there is more than enough evidence to point to the fact that Mia Farrow was capable of manipulating and indeed orchestrating the situation. Didn't one of her other adopted children speak out against her?

Moses Farrow did - he is one of Woody's adopted children and is on the Allen payroll.

Dylan Farrow is a grown up - her mother can't be blamed for Dylan's accusations.

Woody Allen's career actually seems to be finished now - only Alec Baldwin is now defending him.

Dylan Farrow first made the accusations at the age of 7. Given the nature of their acrimonious split, there is every chance she could have been coached by her loon of a mother. She has also lived a life since then as one of Farrow's increasingly growing brood - with all the utter insanity that brings with it.

Additionally what proof is there that Moses Farrow is being paid off by Allen? I must have missed the memo.

As for Baldwin being the only person in Hollywood defending him - I don't think that's quite true. I think this article and the decades old interview with Woody Allen within it is quite insightful: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/jan/30/diane-keaton-woody-allen-dylan-farrow
