after his resounding success in the last song for moopy :bruised:, i think active child deserves a thread

i love his entire EP and his latest single with its weird, weird video

Oh ameraal, it would seem you and I are very much on the same page musically, at least in regards to current music. I love this guy. "When Your Love Is Safe" was probably my favourite song of last year... I think I put "Wilderness" in my top 20 list too. This is the first time I'm hearing the new single though, it's good. And yay Mats for taking an interest.

i've literally been living on active child the last few days, i didn't think it would, but his music works a treat for long, stress free days by the pool

He's had the new album streaming on HypeM since Monday. Reviews are similiar to Washed Out for the most part - a few brilliant tracks, but everything else sort of blends together with little depth. So far I think it's one of the most beautiful albums I've heard in ages... and the lowkey tracks seem like growers.

God he's just everything, isn't he? I think this will definately end up my favourite album this year. Did you get the bonus track, "Call Me Tonight", Am? It's a bit more upbeat and pop than his usual fare but just amazing.

no! thanks for the heads up

i can't single out a favourite they're just all quite amazing, but if i had to besides 11/10 track hangin' on it'd have to be boombastic see thru eyes and the knife-esque way too fast (the bass on that is subtly mindblowing)

I'm about a year late, but I am loving I'm In Your Church At Night, I rediscovered it on a blog recently and I'm loving it, despite the video which I have no idea what it is supposed to mean at all. Anyway I'm downloading the new album NOW, is it more of the same then?

I've got a muscial backlog at the moment so I've just got round to listening to this. I absolutely love it. I can't stop listening to 'Hanging On' and 'Ivy'. The harp-synth combo is so lovely on the latter, it really doesn't require any vocals.

^It's a ONE MAN SHOW :disco: (unless you generally include producers in such pronouncements). That remix is tied with the original for my favourite song of the year now. I just don't know which is better. More black chorists please. Also further investigation reveals he's not bad on the eyes either... he looks entirely COMMON in photographs but rather nice in motion. Now to see him live (as the current tour is just ending).

"Subtle" doesn't blow me away like "Hanging On" & "When Your Love Is Safe" did. . . the music doesn't really compliment his style of singing. It's an interesting song though, maybe a grower.

Also totally missed "She Cut Me". What little there is there sounds pretty cool.

i totally love subtle. the vocal lines are amazing. the bits and pieces of 80s funk are brilliant brilliant brilliant. it sounds like so many things and nothing else at the same time.

i could do without the bit by whatshisname

I'm sat here listening to Hanging On from years ago, and racking my brain how I know the song because aside from the Mikky Ekko collab I've never come across this guy before.

And then it hits me: Ellie Goulding covered it on her last album. The only reason I know that is because I stumbled upon it and instantly loved even though I don't like her very much at all. All makes sense now - she stole it to make herself sound good :eyes:

I'd very much like to invest further.

i hate the ellie version but i guess it paid some bills so whatever. there's a duet on the newie which sounds nice on first listen.

he had a gig in london a few days ago, i was hoping to make it but alas): my friend went and said it was magical

well I've just listened to the clips for the new EP and I love it - I need this

it's kinda like if you take Jamie Woon's vocal and harmonies, and James Blake's soundscapes, and put them together. In other words the best parts of both artists in one.

well this is really good, but how can you go wrong with vocals like that

if anyone gets a chance to see him live it's a must, he's absolutely dreamy
