    It's fucking spectacular.

And they are spectacularly stupid for not releasing this as the first thing anyone heard from this album. It could actually have done something at radio.

    What a song.

    After All
    Testament In Motion
    Who Do You Love

These are my first listen highlights. Footprints is decent too. The title track is so good, they should have done more with Orbit.

On first listen After All is the 10/10 standout

Testament in Motion is very good and catchy too.

Who Do You Love is like their sound from the very first album

Just been looking through the reviews and they have all been pretty glowing. 'Album of the week' and 'their best album in two decades' type articles.

It's about #25 on amazon with lots of compilations and soundtracks etc above it. Another top 10/top 5 would be great.

Marketing has been decent, but there has been NO tv performance of the lead single, although it's been hammered by Radio 2. Promo seems to have been building momentum by releasing 5 of the tracks before the album and in a live capacity - Radio 2 session and the Brixton gig. They are doing This Morning on Wednesday, I am thinking a perf of 'After All' and moving onto that is the plan.

Haven't listened to the album yet, but just echoing the praise for the gorgeous After All. I agree they should move onto promoting that as second single proper now.

That is TONY BEKE not Rob Brydon. Dear Kim looked like she was itching to get up and join in too.

Midweek #10. I'd imagine it's likely to be fairly frontloaded, so I suspect that's something of a disappointment compared to Red Flag.

By comparison, the #10 album last week sold just over 4,500 copies. If it does similarly, that'll be just under half what Red Flag managed.

    Oh :( that’s a shame.

I do think they launched the single a bit early and they don’t have the same buzz around the comeback as they did last time

It could all HAVE been very different if they'd done the smart thing, launched with After All and actually DONE SOME PROMO

I guess it's inevitable to an extent that they aren't going to get quite the same buzz - it's the follow up to the comeback which is never going to get the same hype as the comeback itself. It may not be the coolest comparison (or the same demographic), but Rick Astley has found the same with his album released the week before last, selling little over half what 50 did.

And yes, I think there are lessons to be learned there. They have done a bit of promo in the last week though, haven't they?

Why aren’t All Saints selling now? Does radio not touch them anymore? They were massive in the 90’s.

The last album was hardly a huge success though. OK, it went top 3 first week, but did it even go platinum?

:D that can't possibly be the benchmark of a successful album in 2018. most current popstars don't even get close to platinum.

it probably sold about 40k, covered costs and spawned a successful small-scale tour, which is about all anyone can ask for from an act who made only two albums at their peak 20 years ago

I'm not suggesting it was a huge success. It's just that whatever that achieved (and probably more like half silver than anywhere near platinum), this one is unlikely to benefit from the same buzz.

Even though the album didn’t set the charts alight, the tour seemed to be a success

And I guess given how involved Shaznay is in the creative process, costs upfront will be low

But none of your faves are in any danger whatsoever of actually releasing an album, so do you remember what a good one sounds like?

I disagree. Possibly most current pop stars don’t go platinum with an album, but they have to have some form of hit. Unless they are on a small label they must be making next to nothing. Let’s remember Mel Blatt has always clearly said she would only go back to All Saints for the money. To say they ‘only’ had 2 albums at their peak 20 years ago is also undermining their success. They had 5 number 1 singles, and were probably the 2nd biggest girlband of the 90’s. I think it is curtains for them now, sorry.

    THE GRIM RITA HAS SPOKEN.

I guess it depends on how happy they are doing what they’re doing.

Nothing about this project appears to suggest that they are intent on setting the charts alight. Of course they’ll want to make some sort of profit, but outside of Moopy I’m not even sure I’d have known they were releasing a new album. Doing things in such a low-key manner, maybe they are just content with doing a small tour and having an outlet for their songs.

How many artist albums have gone platinum this year? Surely it can't be more than five or so.

Kylie was #14 of the year or whatever before she was even confirmed Gold(en).

I still don't get how Rick Astley made it to Platinum. Comparatively, he sold (considerably) less than Kylie has done in the first four months and yet she doesn't look like she will even make it to half way of what 50 sold in the end. He toured to bolster sales but wasn't he playing in theatres?

His tour was a mixture of theatres and arenas. Although he did the Eventim Apollo in London, he played arenas in Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham, as well as others. According to Music Week he sold 100,000 tickets. That's not so many less than Kylie is performing to, assuming she sells out, is it?

Even if he got off to a slower start than Golden, he was in the top 20 or 30 for the whole of December. That month alone would probably see him outsell what Kylie has in total so far.

In other words, she needs to reissue in November.
