    Lots of people have spotify.

It's like a radio where you get to choose what's playing.

It's an application you download onto your computer, then pick what you want to listen to and off you go.

If you don't want to pay, you get ads every few songs, radio style. If you cough up, the ads go away, the sound quality improves and you can put the songs on your smartphone of choice.

It's pretty damn fine, I have to say. I use it a lot.

I'm amazed at some of the stuff it has got - it's really eclectic. But yes, there are definitely gaps.

It's a good service I can say after using it for some time now and totally worth it.

Although I read that the business model of the free service is designed to crash and burn onto a massive failure wall and that they would eventually have to make it a subscription-only service soon. But until that happens I enjoy my free service.

    Oh!

and I just remembered - and correct me if I'm wrong - that new users are by invitation only now and invites are available to be sent only by subscription users.

Yes I think you do need an invite in order to join.

I love it, as people have mentioned it has gaps but I find a lot of stuff to be available quickly so it is good to sample an album before you go and buy it, without resorting to illegally downloading it.

yeah, that's what I do too

I listened to the new Hot Chip album that's been getting 4 star reviews everywhere these days (thinking of buying it, as 7digital has it for only a fiver) and in the end it was not my cup of tea and decided to keep my fiver and spend it elsewhere.

Nope, I listen to too much non-commercial/brand new music that it's not up to date enough for me

Should it do it automatically? I'm SUBSCRIBED!

I'm so into Spotify btw. If I stopped subscribing now I'd seriously struggle with the iTunes alternative. There's just so much music out there that can be easily found and all in top-notch quality.

I absolutely love Spotify and wouldn't be without it. The apps (Mac, iPhone AND iPad) are all pretty crappy though and really don't do all I'd like them too. Still - I can put up with the pain for the sheer volume of music they give me.

Having said that, I still run my iTunes library in conjunction with it and buy plenty of music. The two working together suits me just FINE.

Is the iPad app not very good?

The one on the iPhone could just do with some tweaking (mainly improved search). I find adding songs to playlists/navigation a bit tedious.

They completely rebuilt the app about 6 months ago and have been re-adding features since. The android version still doesn't have a landscape view which drives me crazy when I'm using my tablet.
I wouldn't use anything else though, the amount of music that is available for such a small cost is incredible.

It's alright but very similar to its iPhone cousin, i.e. just not very polished. Ithas so many basic failings (cache not clearing hence clogging up your entire available storage if you don't delete and reinstall it, no app wide search, painful playlist creation, etc.). However, the sheer amount of stuff available through it makes it a brilliant companion to my iTunes library.

Surely with the screen of an iPad drag and drop playlist creation (a la the desktop) would be a must?

Yes! Which is plain STUPID. It's supposed to release the space its cache is taking up (which builds up even from just playing tracks rather than syncing them) when the system needs it but in practice it doesn't work at all like that.

Playlist creation is a case of "press '+' button, give playlist name, press enter on keyboard" and not all that simple at all. Plus you can only sync complete playlists or not at all which is plain daft.

Errr… yeah it is. Nobody wants to put money into development for such a fragmented market.

They're constantly adding new features via updates. They just need to get on with the one everyone is asking for. It's annoying because it's actually quite easy to do fragmented market or not!

Has the option to re-arrange playlists been removed for anyone else? I have premium and can no longer drag songs up and down when I go to 'edit' in a playlist. Driving me mad as it's one of the features I need! Has it been taken away I can't see much online regarding it

It’s an absolute ballache - I had this same problem too and they were fucking useless at sorting it.

At the top click on the three dots, then edit. You’ll get the screen with the playlist where it looks you can only delete songs. Press on the very right hand of the screen of whichever track it is and you should be able to still move them.

    Absolutely terrible update!

I have loved it apart from this total cock up. If I can't sort it soon there's no point me paying each month. I wanna sort the order of my goddam playlists!
