U.S #3 and #71
Canada #14 and #96
Katy has a HUGE lead. i wonder if it's reachable.
I hope they release it on Sunday in the UK.
Pips waiting in line for the bathroom to download Applause
Up to 3.
#3 United States
#70 United States
Gaga will throw Katy off #1 in just about every country in less than 4 days.
She's coming for you, Cream-tits
This max track is receiving global applause from queens all over the world. I already had WhatsApps from HK, Paris and Moscow declaring it a song of life.
Lady Gaga vs. Katy Perry: Superstar Digital Song Sales Showdown
It needs to sell 625,000+ in the U.S for a #1 debut.
That seems like an awful lot. How much did Born This Way sell in the first week?
It debuted with 448k with only three days of sales, instead of a usual Tuesday release, it hit retail on Friday. In its second week, her first FULL week sales was 509k.
I'm guessing BTW would have debuted with around 700k+ had it had a proper full week. Applause is getting 6 days of sales, but is heading towards 400-550k according to Billboard.
Any news on the UK? Hopefully Sunday the same day as the video.
Already +14.743 M on radio airplay
What does that mean Tram?
14.7 million audience impressions.
Which is really big for a song that's been released in panic during the day.
It was a foregone conclusion that it'd open huge. Not Myself Tonight opened big out the gate and that's one of the most disastrous flops of the past few years.
I don't think this will do badly, but it's where it is in 5 weeks that'll be really telling, particularly at US radio.
The Voice of Radio-doom sounds again
It was not a foregone conclusion that it would open huge. BTW yes, this not so much.
Of course it would. What radio station isn't going to take the opportunity to premier the new Lady Gaga single? BTW was a comedown, but not *that* big of a comedown.
iTunes will be more worth watching in the short term. If it holds at #1 and does what BTW failed to do and hits #1 in the UK singles chart, she's on a solid footing. If it has a fast fanbase assisted rise followed by a swift decline, that's a sign she may be in trouble.
US #2 and #27
Canada #3 and #30
Just because Born This Way didn't go to 1 doesn't mean it wasn't a success. It stayed in the top 10 for 7 weeks.
Ai caramba! Mojitos and fajitas for everyone in celebration of the first #1 in Mexico!
Let's face it, ANYTHING she had released would at least reach a similar level of sucess. The fact that it didn't reach #1 speaks volumes really. God I never get tired of slagging BTW (the song). I'm gonna pretend it never existed.
Had it been released two days later it would have gone to number 1.
Gaga's slowed down slightly against Katy - the hourly updates have been
Mind you it's very early morning in most of the US so her monsters will all be asleep.
don't blame me
they were probably giving it away with scholarships and drinking water in poor colonies !
'Born This Way' (the single) was a success in the UK, I don't think anyone would say that it wasn't.
But I still think it absolutely underperformed in the context of where she was coming from at that point - Gaga was the biggest pop star in the world for a solid two years and not only that, she caused every other pop star to raise their game. 'Born This Way' SHOULD have been an easy #1 single - especially when 'Price Tag' outsold it during its first fortnight on the chart.
But in the long scheme of things, no-one liked it (BTW) hence why it under-performed, to her standards.
To go from the fantastic Fame Monster era to BTW was a sad affair.
Lets not forget that Born This Way the album was given away for free in order for her to get a sale boost. I wonder what sort of tricks they will try this time.

She's now almost at 0.50 so had a spike! - this next 24 hours is going to be very interesting.
On UK iTunes now
I think it's too late to overtake Ellie to be honest.
I would say its too late yes.
Is it getting the radio buzz that Born This Way got when it was first released?
Is it charting on UK itunes yet?
Roar is #37
It isn't even advertised on iTunes. It is there to buy, but it isn't advertised. How are people even going to know about it?
It's not shown up yet, I think it was added an hour ago. As far as I'm aware Roar is still pre order only.
