Shouldn't all this chatter be in the Artpop album thread? "Applause" is O.V.A.H.!

    Oh :(

I was looking forward to Ratchet. I wanted some gritty urban beats in my life this FALL and sadly funks hasn't been delivering on that front lately, so I was relying on good old GAGS!

As if Bey has time to fart out a collabo, while she's furiously penning :basil: her next #1

It has to be put into context though that many more radio stations are on the panel for Billboard now than in 2009 - so 100 million now might have only been 70 in 2009

Still a huge improvement on her latest radio impressions though.

If Beyonce has already been denied, Rihanna has been dismissed and Azealia unceremoniously dropped then I imagine we are back to square one, when Gaga first announced she would collabing with Elton on her new album.

Ratchet is back on boys :disco:

Much less, I think? Ever since they started tracking airplay only the Queen of Earth Mariah reached over 180 million AI with WBT, after many radio stations were added on the panel - like 2 years ago, right? - more than 3 songs passed 200 million: Mirror, When I Was Your Man, and now Roar, Blurred Lines was like a million away from 300 million.

"Applause" has now spent 50 consecutive days inside the itunes top 10. Still #8.

Britney managed less than a week. *mega scoff*

Let's be a bit more balanced, eh, Jark? :disco:

5 years into Britney's career (like Gaga, that newcomer, is now), "Toxic" was quickly becoming one of the most iconic pop hits of the new millennium and In the Zone became Brit's fourth consecutive multi-platinum and #1 album. Gaga can self-reference all she wants but let's evaluate "Applause", its pop culture impact and how it holds up, in ten more years, shall we?

Hell, even Avril Lavigne was scoring hits five years into her career.

Wasn't Brit releasing MATM five years into her career?

Fair enough, though I still fully claim that 10/10 track. Let's wait three months and see if Gags has a "Toxic" up her sleeves then.

Bad Romance? Telephone? I doubt she'll ever match those.

Jark, you out of anyone should know that the 2004 and 2013 Hot 100s are impossible to compare. And if we WERE to make such faulty comparisons, let's see if Gaga has a #12 hit in 2023.

My chart geekery is seemingly at an all time high this morning!

Another 133K sold for Applause in the U.S in its 7th week on the charts, bringing its total tally to 1.231.000 units.

A relatively soft decline of 17%, but it rises up one spot on the digital chart to #6

Let's not forget that ITZ gave Britney 3 GLOBAL #1 hits. I doubt ARTPOP will get Gags even one.

Who the hell cares about Britney's past success anyway?
It's as if I brought up "Holler" first week sales in comparison to "Applause".
    Useless.

But you'd have no reason to do that anyway. The Spice Girls (the group or any of them individually) have not been consistently churning out hits since "Holler" or 2000.

It just was a silly troll move on Jark's part, suggesting that Britney's a flop because she released a smaller hit than Gaga 15 years into her career. Who really cares in the scheme of things?

Britney vs. Gaga is so funny. Two hasbeens for the price of one.

It's almost like going back in time and going into a Geri vs Mel C fight thread (YES WE REMEMBER.)

Far too little. Germany's singles market is almost comparable to the UK's if memory serves, it would have sold far more than that. Ditto France, unless they still haven't incorporated digital sales into the singles chart... perhaps someone can confirm.
