I don't think I've ever listened to a single song by them :tongueout: I have liked the odd K-pop song over the years though - the language barrier isn't a problem for me, it's more that I find it difficult to keep up with who's out, who's good etc - and the majority of artists aren't on my music streaming service of choice.

Ohh who’s the K-pop Kween here then?!

Maybe I’m having this issue based on long past incidents. There were at least SOME QUEENS who would be fine with something in Finnish or Macedonian or whatever, but as soon as it’s out of the context of Eurovision they wouldn’t even sample it. THAT’s what was frustrating

The title track is basically the only good song Pharrell has on this album (I bop to Borderline as well but it's so disposable).

Sweetener and Successful are great but the rest of Pharrell's stuff is rotten.

Still don't like any of the Pharrell songs.

That will be me, hun! Girls Generation were my first foray into K-Pop. I might be a Eurovision fan but I'll listen to lots of pop outside of the context of Eurovision.

I've come to the conclusion that this is an actively bad album :(

To quote Pharrell, 'SHEESH!' x 36.

Album's a bit of a disappointment. Some really good stuff on there but overall I think it's a step down from Dangerous Woman and I was really expecting more.

Goodnight & Go is just as special as the original.

The credits have been updated on the Wiki but there is still no whiff of Lady Imogen :( - YET

She's definitely getting paid, maybe she agreed a lump sum because there's an interview with her saying she's really pleased with Ariana's version and is happy that a song which has run it's course with her has been given a new life. She also mentioned that she was happy to get the money as one song on Ariana's album is akin to her having to record and sell another 10 of her own albums at her current rate.

Oh that’s nice to hear and quite a lovely take on someone covering your song.

Not entirely convinced getting a lump sum would be a fair return for having a (potential single) track on an Ariana album, but hey, if it bought her a new conservatory, who am I to argue?

It doesn’t scream single to me, so she probably did the right thing

I could see it being trotted out as a fourth single in a kind of “this album is overflowing with HITZ” kind of way (even though it actually isn’t).

So I've been playing this album today again and I admit it does require repeated listens and patience but I think it's head and shoulders her best album. I really enjoyed Dangerous Woman too by the way.

I read an article about a series of Tweets from Ariana and basically

    - She's apparently done promoting Swetener cause it's exhausting
    - She's recording already :D :manson:
    - She doesn't want to tour yet
    - Shades Jessie J's 2014 #1 hit Bang Bang :D

    - SHE SHADES BREATHING' which is like the best song of her latest, ugh

She replied she prefers REM to Breathin personally but the people spoke. I didn't read it as shade just as a preference.

Sweetener is probably the most gay-interest album ever. NTLTC is the only song I've ever heard on the radio here. Everything else I've only ever heard at gay bars.

Certainly not in the UK. All three are all over Commercial Radio. Our office flicks between Capital, Heart, Heat etc and I hear all three singles usually 2-3 times a day each. It's quite strange how much she is played (though the airplay chart doesn't much reflect as much as I'd have thought).

Ariana Grande at the BBC is on BBC1 tonight at 8. You’d have thought it would have been done as an album release week tie in but I’ll still record it. Will be interesting to see if it gives the album which remains very GOOD another boost.

I was massively looking forward to this when it was announced around the album release but the moment feels like it's passed somewhat. But yes still worth a record!

I found the BBC show a bit excruciating. The musical parts were good of course but the chat between Davina and Ariana felt really disconnected. It really felt like an awkward Big Brother interview! It didn't help that Ariana was in what looked like the must uncomfortable dress in the world ever.

Yeah and whenever she was asked a (rather inane on the whole) question Ariana seemed to be struggling to think, you’d be forgiven for thinking English was her second language. She was very nice about Madonna though which pleased me.

She really didn’t interview very well at all.

As nice a gesture as the BBC show was, it really wasn’t the right format for her in terms of audience or interviewer.

I actively cringed for Davina McCall who couldn’t have come across more “briefed on Ariana Grande five minutes before the show” if she tried.

The Breathin' video is really good. Not up there with the other two obviously but still plenty of lovely looks.

She's not a BIG personality though, is she? Her whole persona is built on being cute and a little bit sexy and millennial-detached. She's not the kind of A-lister you'd be excited to see on Graham Norton's sofa next Friday, so why she got her own show in that format I really can't imagine

Maybe not, but she came across very differently with James Corden, where she seemed much more relaxed.

I think she’s probably still at a stage of her career where she’s working out what type of personality will capitalise on the goodwill afforded to her after Manchester.

So ‘Sweetener’ won Best Pop Vocal Album at the Grammys. This really is her time. I wonder if she’ll get another chance to get one in person after giving the show a miss.
