Love it. It's similar in vibe to the Sweetner album but to me it doesn't just sound like an unused track or anything like that.
IS SHE ABANDONING SWEETENR THEN? are we staying with the GOD AWFUL Breathin' video starring that fucking pig?
She's said the Breathin video is still coming... It's all a bit CONFUSING but it's sort of Meltdown Era Ari fresh.
Not sure what to make of this. Supposedly a secret/unreleased Ari album that someone came across on Spotify
I am quite surprised for some reason this has shot to uk #1 out of nowhere. I have spotified and will listen today. Is it on the new album or a random single?
She's said it's the last track, and title track, of a new album but I don't think we have any more deets than that other than it may be out before Christmas.
Curiosity streams? I don't doubt she has wider appeal than that, but the fact that just listening to a song out of interest on Spotify now means you've effectively contributed to a sale is a huge advantage when you're chucking out a new single that's not on the album.
It's more than just curiosity though - she's streaming just under a million a day in the UK - well over double #2. I don't think the singles from Sweetener came close to that.
Her appeal is huge at the moment - I’m not sure whether playlisters really care about the cap on chart eligible tracks from one album, but if they do, the fact that this song sits outside of that rule is another huge advantage.
I guess in many ways this is the modern equivalent of the old double-A side where acts would chuck out a new song mid-album campaign.
I've not found the small print, but the article on the OCC website when the new rules were announced said this: Obviously it was in relation to the Sheeran fiasco when his album was released. It doesn't say tracks from that album or tracks full stop, so I guess it could be ambiguous.
But that’s pretty fucking stupid because then why include streaming and sales if you’re going to limit songs an act can chart with. If this streaming/sales thing is how they want to do it then you’ve got to have an accurate chart. If Ed Sheeran has 30 of the most popular songs on this system then so be it, the chart should reflect that. Personally I’m still off the opinion the chart should be based on paid for music/streams.
I think we argued this over a year ago. You could argue things have improved since then from a 'music that is paid for' perspective anyway, since they brought in the different ratios for Spotify Premium and free Spotify (and I assume other platforms similarly).
She's now #1 on Billboard Hot 100 AND she's currently in the studio with Max Martin and Savan Kotecha.
We all know it should have been Bang Bang. I do like this but it’s not as good as any of the three singles from Sweetner. But at least it’s not a fucking Pharrell song!
I still can't believe the absolute PISS Pharrell got away with on Sweetener. Serving demos from 2004 and getting praised for it.
