Australia are having a national final for the first time this year. Ten acts will perform with the winner selected via a 50/50 split between televote and juries.

Seven of the ten acts have been confirmed so far.

    Sheppard
    Electric Fields
    Kate Miller-Hiedke
    Mark Vincent
    Courtney Act :disco:
    Aydan Calafiore
    Leea Nanos

I don’t like her voice but so no points for Courtney from the Zu jury

    (EDITED :tongueout:)

I recognise the name Kate Miller-Heidke, though couldn't say anything she has done.

That was....unexpected...if anything with her profile here I thought she may have tried for the UK!

Will usually very conservative Australia vote for her though? I just hope she has a decent song and not one of the usual low-rent Drag Race songs which are fun for PAs and YouTube but Eurovision is whole different ball game.

All the names so far bar Leea Nanos have had some sort of success in Oz. Impressive!

Well you might have hoped she would, given that the British public elevated her to unimaginable levels of huge, huge stardom, MAIS NON. So ungrateful :(

Still, at least we’ve been promised a selection of very beautiful songs in many beautiful styles :)

That is quite pleasant. This more recent seasonal number is something different entirely:

Courtney’s song actually sounds alright if perhaps a little too similar in tone and (urg) tempo to poor Jessica’s (thoroughly undeserved) crash and burn this year

I’ll pass on Kate Miller-Heidke thanks all the same. Looks like a right grizzler. Also, I know we all have a budget but goldfish and net curtains?

OH COURTNEY. I mean it's a fun cheap ass gay dance song but she sounds pitchy as FUCK on the studio version so heaven knows what she will be like live. It's fabulous that she's even trying but I don't think anyone's hopes should be got up yet, cos unless she pulls out a TENS ACROSS THE BOARD performance that is not winning.

Yeah it is just kind of mildly enjoyable for 3 minutes and then just STOPS before anything really happens.

Oh she’s always been SHRILL. I’ve been rewatching Season 6 and Adore > Courtney on the vox front by a VERY long shot. Also, I simply had to look away from that bit on CBB where she started crowing on about writing a song with top talant Jake Shears (or whoever it was) to the interest of almost no-one, followed by a pitchy perf in the key of tinny

Australia are not conservative at all - no more so than any other Western country. A bunch of old school politicians, maybe. But the country overall is not.

Given Eurovision is popular but still a bit niche here, she’ll have more chance than normal.

I don't care if the song is any good, SEND COURTNEY!

Every country to send a drag queen, let's have an Eurovision Drag Race.

Australia is super casually homophobic, just like it is misogynistic and racist! I would say absolutely more so than most Western European countries.

Courtney didn't quite get high production values on her song, did she? Hopefully whoever Australia sends gets someone solid to handle their staging

Oh we simply must have a BOX. I’m going to turn the TV off immediately if I can’t see a BOX

WITH Shangela I would suggest. The star quality’s got to come from SOMEWHERE :side-eye:

62% of the population voted to legalise gay marriage, which was exactly the same as Ireland, who sent a gay entry last year, so I call BULLSHIT.

It really depends where you are. Inner city is no different to any other countries. It’s when you go out to the small towns that things get like that.

I can never decide if Courtney can actually sing or not but certainly this is not an accomplished vocal :D

I do love her but Oz can do better than this surely

Still no word on the final batch of hopefuls, but here are three more songs confirmed for the national final.

Electric Fields would certainly be different, but I'm not sure it's actually any good.

Leea is nice enough but not competitive.

Mark Vincent is a big no from me.

Mark Vincent certainly sounds the most Eurovision to me. I could see it doing well at Eurovision but it’s not what I’m really looking for from Australia.

Electric Fields sounds like a mess.

Alfie Arcuri's song is alright in a slighly less dreary Sam Smith kinda way. I can see it playing well with the juries.

Aydan Calafiore's song is fairly boring

Just waiting to hear the songs from Sheppard, Kate Miller-Hiedeke, Tania Doko and Ella Hooper now.

Alfie’s song is the best of the bunch we’ve heard so far

    Surely the front runner

The four songs still to be revealed are from arguably the 4 most established names. I’d say the winner will come from one of them as none of the songs so far give me any winner vibes.

    Ella's is here:

    Quite the pleasant little ditty..

Kate's is something ELSE! It's like La Forza on LSD. I don't know whether to love it or hate it!
