strange, i don't seem to have made one for last year, but i'll put this here for posterity's sake
embarrassingly, my most listened to album was a record from 2017 - the schmalzy cigarettes after sex album - theirs was also my favourite concert.
i have listened to precious few albums this year, but i loved these.
01 double negative - low / very bleak, occasionally gorgeous noise with lots of distortion and bitterness
02 dans ma main - jean-michel blais / classical music with a bit of post in it. chanson is otherworldly
03 rebound - eleanor friedberger / she's a smart songwriter
04 so sad so sexy - lykke li / objectively she's becoming a bit repetitive and there was some woefully bad lyrics on it but i listened to this a lot
05 let's be wilderness - postdata / a pretty irrelevant folksy rock country album which struck a cord for some reason
06 nao - saturn / it's weird that an r&b album is my favourite pop album of the year
07 7 - beach house / more lush soundscapes this time with a cosmic twist
08 honey - robyn / well i liked it
09 for ever - jungle / glossy pastiche fun
10 record - tracey thorn / forgot about this. some brilliant moments but a bit too earnest at times
bonus some really good electronic music albums & eps
steal chickens from men and the future from god - shakarchi & straneus
family affair - ross from friends
2012-2017 - against all logic
pick up - dj koze
times ep - meggy
once ep - peggy gou
the roisin murphy eps
i definitely watch too much tv.
sorry for your loss (about depression and loss, beautifully done)
killing eve (even if the second half was a bit meh)
my brilliant friend (though the actress playing lila is woeful)
escape at dannemora (patricia arquette!)
the kids are alright (fun)
kidding (though i still have a few episodes)
homecoming (yes, i know it's slow)
one strange rock (despite will smith which is a mean feat)
insecure (amazing and so much fun)
the americans (good ending and some amazing season end episodes as per)
casual (i will miss this one the most)
westworld (the ending made it all worthwhile but i kinda wish it were less convoluted)
haven't got round to seeing bojack yet, but i'm sure it's amazing. or mrs maisel. still haven't even started with atlanta and the deuce.
I've been waiting for some sound sound advice. I'm too lazy to seek out new stuff myself. mwah
I love this album beyond measure. Let’s say it’s the album of EVERY year, dear @ameraal
And where do I even BEGIN with “Said you wear a new perfume for each city that you visit / so you can always remember how it felt to be there”? OMG it’s just fucking magical and utterly SPECTACULAR
don't even, it was as cheesy as i was there for it.
<3 - It makes me want to lay about in a hazy opium fuelled malaise

I've decided that my sister might like this album for Christmas as she does like Mazzy Star and I AM going to be staying at hers for five days
I’m just GIVE GIVE GIVE
@ameraal sliva, do you have a 2018 playlist on Spotify?
I'm completely in love with that Maggie Rogers's Light On tune (it speaks to the building comedown from New Year's). this is the OST to our limp state, @Dark Carnival
I'll give it a listen from my deathbed.
am I need to give your playlist a listen. I'm completely out of the loop with what's trending these days - most of the stuff I've been listening to has been in la lingua italiana.
That Low album seems to be a big favourite in the end of year lists - I don't think I've heard anything from it, to be honest! I'm not really familiar with their back catalogue either - can I just jump in with this one or should I be working up to it?
Also v v much into this song at the moment and I've not really got the hype around her previously.
give the playlist a list. you'll be shocked by number 27!
the low album is sensational. i got into it pretty late (blood and dancing is rather subtle) and it need a bit to click but i love it oh so much. you don't need to know anything about them to enjoy it - but it is rather bleak apart from being gorgeous. i'm sure you will live.
Bleak and gorgeous is my kink. I'll give it some time this weekend!
