Was that written by a 12yo Gaga fanboy? Not everything has to SMASH you OVER THE HEAD!
Moopy's reaction to this album has been quite unique. Most people I know were definitely disappointed/indifferent to it and the whole Beyoncé phenomenon obviously took a hit. Maybe it's not so evident in the US/UK where she focus her promotion but outside of it, in places where her popularity is mainly driven by the HITS (no Glastonbury effect, etc) I would say this project was a bit of a misstep.
I couldn't care less about missteps and disappointments. She's still one of the most famous people on the planet and good for at least 2 more albums, probably more unless something horrific happens. Given the last 3 albums have all been varying shades of amazing, I'm just happy she keeps making amazing pop music.
Critical acclaim means nothing. I thought we were all in consensus about that on Moopy. But then again, VoR is a budding journalist so it figures that he quotes The Guardian in every other post.
The point remains that Beyonce is in a rut at the moment; and an isolated good review from a broadsheet will not really disguise that fact. Of course the situation is not identical to Lady Gaga (whose bubble has officially burst) but it's more of a public indifference rather than fatigue. Which should work in her favour, really, if she can pull her act together by her next album.
Also, it is quite telling that this is her first album without her father's involvement. Makes you think just how much of the puppet strings he was pulling when she was at her peak.
4 made number 27 on Pitchfork's top 50 albums of 2011!
Beyoncé: officially REAL MUSIC™!
I don't really agree with any of this. not even the bit about Lady Gaga.
It doesn't matter. He'll have the exact opposite opinion about everything in 3 months and it'll be like none of this ever happened. Just ride it out.
I've revisited this album for the first time in MONTHS after originally just dismissing it as samey but finding myself having a moment to Countdown 'in the club' (back-to-back with Man Down ) the other night, and GOODNESS it's far better than I ever remembered it. The last half is great!

To be honest I think it's the real music snobs (among the critics) who seem to be most appreciative of this snoozefest of an album. I'm genuinely SHOCKED that it's been attracting the best reviews of her career. It's just such a regression in almost every sense. The downbeat balladry doesn't even get close to achieving the tender emotion it's going for. At least the bad songs on Sasha Fierce were actively bad... here they're just MIND NUMBINGLY DULL and I can honestly say that I'd RATHER DIE YOUNG (RIGHT NOW IN FACT) than here that song again ever in my life. The whole thing is so tame and sanitized and I find it quite sad that at a time when you have popstars at least trying to experiment with their sound, for better or worse (and even the critics of Born This Way can't deny that it pushes a few boundaries), Beyoncé is celebrated for making such a stale record.

I have been listening to this for the first time since it came out.
It is SIMPLY FAB!
Please bear in mind I am a little TIPSY Jark
Don't worry dUb, you've been raving over that new Jessie J song. You're MOVING UP in the world. Small steps I guess though.
THE FIRST TIME?? WHAT?!
It is indeed amazing.
I just gave up on it, then all the singles happened, then I listened to it all again tonight and LOVED IT!
1+1 is still shit
Yes it is.
Skip it every time.
Isn't 1+1 the one Funky tried to claim as some kind of masterpiece or something?
Kind of overlooking the fact that it has NO DISCERNIBLE MELODY and seems to have been made up on the spot.
1+1 is LUSH
Honestly Jark you don't half talk some SHITE!
"I'm not a fan of Run This World because there are no drums to speak of..."
Actually I'm not a fan of Run The World (Girls) because THAT TOO IS HORSESHIT.
....IN YOUR OPINION.
Although I can at least understand people not liking that track.
NOT THIS AGAIN
oh Jark, as the current laughing stock of moopy in nearly every thread you offer an opinion, you really have no room to mock
The thing is I haven't given a shit about the Moopy consensus of me in as long as I can remember so I'm going to CONTINUE to OPINE FREELY!
And YES, I WILL manson you for pointing out that the things I post are ONLY MY OPINION as if they'd be ANYTHING ELSE!
There's another one for good measure, funky funkster!
CARRY ON DEAR
it's funny EITHER WAY
Don't let the Moopy DICTATORSHIP silence you Jarkette! SING IT, sing it for FREEDOM and for everyone that can see right through the FAKENESS that is Beyonce Knowles Z!
Her favourite songs from 2011
Big Sean featuring Nicki Minaj--- "Dance (A$$)"
Future ---"Tony Montana"
Jay Z & Kanye West---"Ni**as in Paris"
Adele--- "Someone Like You"
Rihanna--- "Man Down"
Justin Bieber and Chris Brown---"Look At Me Now"
James Blake---"The Wilhelm Scream"
Love On Top has finally cracked the top ten on iTunes.
It was #16 on the Wednesday Chart Update so it won't make it this week, but maybe it can hang around...

Rumor has it that Beyonce will be performing "I Was Here" in tribute of Elizabeth Taylor at the Oscars this year
Could be some internet gai's wet dream but this could give 4 its highest charting hit?
i was going to be all 'if some JOYLESS WOMAN singing an ALBUM TRACK is the BEST TRIBUTE they can MUSTER then i REALLY DON'T KNOW WHY LIZ BOTHERED', but listening to it now i think it could be really lovely.
I hope for a brilliant montage.
It's going to be a tear jerker moment for every gay in the audience
Is Liz getting an individual tribute then? Are we sure it's not the more general "People we lost in 2011" thing?
If all she gets is 4 b/w stills I will NOT be happy. I think she should get a full song to herself, but with LeTavia singing with a bottle of buckie in her hand as she slurs "I remember when I was..." before the orchestra cuts her speech off at the end.
so, all the men then
Tom Cruise is going to be a MESS, crying into Katie's right pec.
