What an odd, yet interesting choice. I don't know much about his music at all. I wonder if it means that more artists will win this prize in the future.

How bizarre! But I kinda like the fact it's happened. We've had Churchill winning in the past for his speeches so why not.

    This seems entirely appropriate.

Is this yet another dreadful attempt to "stay relevant"? Honestly, he's written some QUITE OH KAY songs in that past, but he's hardly the POET LAUREATE.

The Nobel committee should change the tenets of the charity and start donating/investing in far more interesting moments.

Yeah, his music isn't my bag, but my dad is a huge fan so I grew up listening to him and his lyrics really are more than ok. He is a wonderful poet by any standard.

He's a perfectly fine lyricist but nowhere near the world's best.

go for the most viewed videos on youtube

I know about two songs of his, which is more than I can say about the work of 99% of Nobel laureates, so I can't comment on whether he deserves it or not in terms of quality although I do feel it's blurring the lines a bit

Wouldn't it just make sense to extend the different types of Nobel Prize and introduce a Nobel Price for Music rather than trying to stretch the realms of what literature is? I mean Economics was introduced in 1968. Why not just introduce some different ones?

Because he's being honoured as a writer. His writing holds up as poetry and resonates just like the major writers of his period did. You can easily place Dylan's words amongst those of the writers of the counter culture movement, and wider American literary tradition really; it has a vital place there.
