286k of downloads for the #1 is hardly phenomenal nowadays - they regularly get past 300k don't they? And this is the UBER hype machine also known as Gaga. She has ONE HUNDRED MILLION airplay impressions. Pretty much everybody in the country has heard the song. So I think it is indeed a bit shit that she's under 300k this week, sorry.

Let's just remind ourselves she sold a staggering 960K in one and a half week, that's probably why 290K seems "not much" in comparison.

But calling it a FLOP is so BOUNDARY-BREAKING I wanna DRINK MY TEARS :disco:

Oh christ, just pipe the fuck down already. Even via the medium of an internet forum your loondom manages to drain all of the energy from me until I feel suicidally dizzy.

I don't know how to respond to this, 100 million AI isn't uncommon at all (several songs have it on any given week) and "Born This Way" is the only song EVER aside from "Right Round" to sell 1.2 million in three weeks, so I have no idea how you are labeling this performance as a "bit shit"

And you just contradicted yourself about the AI thing, if everyone's heard it like you say then the amount of airplay it has is basically irrelevant.

I am simply surprised that the hype has already died down sufficiently for her to be selling under 300k in only the song's third week. She definitely sold a shitload in the first two, I'm not denying that, but surely as airplay increases so massively each day people shouldn't be buying the song LESS with each passing week. Just my take on it.

    EH?

She sold 600K in BOTH the first 2 weeks!

300K is strong for ANY number one in its FIRST week let alone third. Bearing in mind that the big tunes from 2 years ago were managing 200K a week.

I'm no Gaga fan and I think the success of this song is completely unjustified but seriously - WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GOING ON ABOUT :daf:

Fair enough but pretty much all the #1 debuts have had similar % decreases week-to-week, only Gaga's sales have just been much bigger to begin with

I just don't get it, he says that more people should be buying the song in its third week cause more people are hearing it on the radio but at the same time he is saying "everyone in the country has heard it already"

But if almost 1 million people already own it, which is a massive figure for 2 weeks of sales, then 300k seems perfectly fine for 3rd week sales. I don't see how you could think it is anything close to underperforming.

I think he may mean that with the huge airplay, it's giving almost everyone in the country a chance to hear it, which in turn should equal higher sales.

I don't AGREE, but what he's saying does make sense, as an increasing audience should IN THEORY result in a sales increase, or at least a smaller drop off.

I get where Jark is coming from but it just doesn't work like that. Look at "Hold It Against Me" - its airplay grew something ridiculous like 50 million - 75 million - 85 million in its first three weeks. Yet sales collapsed after the initial 411k opening. Despite more and more people hearing it, when you open that big you simply can't maintain it as the first week or two is always going to be fan-loaded. It's whether you can hold at the 150k-200k for a good couple of months that determines whether the song is a (huge) hit.

I-Tunes update, still top 10 everywhere :disco:

She still leads the overall I-Tunes chart as well for the 30th day in a row with 21.408 pts, but J-Lo is getting closer and should probably get the top spot very soon.

Is this still her second-smallest UK hit, or has it passed Alejandro/Paparazzi yet?

It hasn't outSOLD either yet, although it has outPEAKED both. It probably will sell more than both in the long run though.

is gold 300k? Should make it in just over a week. It was on 256k at the end of last week, having sold 36k.

Tramell, I may have asked this before, but what does EC stand for?

It's from the french expression "En Cours" which means it's still on the charts.
Of course I'd like to find an english one, but "SO" for Still On is SHIT, innit?

IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME THOUGH :D

I think this will end up doing about 450-500k by the end of it's run, which by her standards isn't that great.

Let's face it, this song hasn't really worked for her over here

But then again, she's not done anything to promote it (she's not even over here touring)

It's done the business in the states so I'm sure they aren't too worried, as long as Judas is a more definitive success I don't think this is much of a setback

There's just been too much competition for her over here like Adele and Jessie J who aren't as big competition in other countries. And like you say, she's not done any promotion so Adele's been pretty much left to walk it. I wonder if a Lady Gaga performance of Born This Way at the Brits was ever on the cards? Because that would have worked wonders. Then again, it was probably too close to the Grammy's.

She'd have been #1 if it wasn't for Adele and Jessie J both performing at the Brits (or if she had as well, of course). But I don't think for a minute she'd have had the legs to maintain it in the way both those two songs have, performance or not.

I think she'll get a 6th week on top the US chart as well, I think Katy Perry's "ET" or possibly "Fuck You" could take over the following week

And I agree that this single has plateaued for me. Kind of shrinking to an 8/10 currently

No matter how many weeks this stays atop the Billboard chart or how many records it shatters it will NEVER come close to the Bad Romance pop impact. Let's face it, one of them catapulted her to ridiculous heights, the other is simply riding on that wave.

    I agree.
But as that popjustice (?) review stated before its release, I think BTW was a good move in the grand scheme of things.
She moved away from her comfort zone and proposed a different sound instead of launching "Bad Romance part II" (which I suspect "Judas" to be, but hopefully not a carbon copy).

The funny thing with this song is how France and the UK give her a middle-sized hit while the rest of the world goes mad for it :D

I don't think so... It sounds nothing like her previous singles, it really stands out.
It wouldn't have fit on "Monster" and according to the first reviews, it's kind of a stand-alone track on the new album.
