I'll always remember the TOTP mime performed from some other venue where she's been unceremoniously squeezed into a lurid orange affair and blinks a bit too earnestly, as if her contact lenses have been dipped in Domestos.

    Perfect pop.

It's all about the middle eight

    "I'd do anything
    I'd give you my world
I'd wait forever, to be your girl
    So call out my name
    And I will be there
Just to show you how much I
*Nana Hedin's ghost vocals kick in*
    CAAAAAAAAAARE"

    :disco:

I want to hear Britney attempt the middle eight live before she dies :disco: oh the joy of that YANNI inspired piano bit is just too much.

I remember browsing furiously for endless hours and sleepless nights trying to find a decent copy of the Bonus Remix. I was not going to pay 15 fukcing dollars for the single import.

I like it, but I've never had that sentimental attachment, nostalgia to it as the other early hits because it wasn't released here. But it was a nice surprise when YouTube happened and I realized there was a Britney video I had never seen (that and "I Love Rock 'N Roll").

Yes- if "I Love Rock 'n Roll" and "Perfume" never happened, it would be her worst single to date.

I did love the Dawson's Creek style video, though.

I liked it at the time, then had an irrational hate of it for years, and have recently come to enjoy it again.

I didn't realise that people thought highly of this lump of sweaty cheese. One of my least favourite early Britney singles. It manages to be both repetitive and unmemorable.

Barely even remember anything of it other than a rather drab chorus.

It's MAGNIFICENT and certainly seems to generally get quite a good reaction when people are reminded of it.

I think part of that perhaps stems from the fact that 15 years since her debut, pretty much everything from the first few albums released in-between '...Baby One More Time', '(You Drive Me) Crazy', 'Oops...I Did It Again and 'I'm A Slave 4 U' is more or less forgotten. Certainly 'Born To Make You Happy' seems fairly OBSCURE as UK #1 singles go and it's certainly her least remembered chart topper.

But all that just adds to the appeal for me. It's got a fairly unexciting video (by Britney's standards) and it's not about a gimmick - it's merely a lovely little pop song that succeeded because it's a quality track.

Oh, so *that's* what it's called. I stumbled across this on Limewire about 12 years ago and thought it was the demo version. I quite like it-slightly more aggressive sounding and the tweak to the chorus ups the interest somewhat.

The clearing of the throat at the start doesn't really help though. She still sounds very phlemgy. Someone chuck her a Halls Soother.

I've been on a little 'Born To Make You Happy' YouTube trip in memory of this song.

This live performance really is :D - I can think of few times when she's sounded WORSE

"I KNOW BEING IN LOVE IS THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD AND YOU'RE ALWAYS SO HAPPY AND NOTHING ELSE MATTERS SO I WANT TO DEDICATE THIS SONG TO ALL OF YOU"

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/o__rHNHo_i8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The post-key change chorus is TOO MUCH:

"I was *squeak* BORN to make you happy
'Cos you're the only one within MUH HA
I was .... to make you happEEE
... and forever you and MEH"

It's amazing how much trouble she has rhyming me and be :D

I like how it wasn't a really involved dance routine but she still had to have a sit down TWICE during the song :D

The best is when she loses it at 3:03 and looks like she's about to pass out from all the VOX.

This one is quite nice and features a chair.

Of all the songs to feature a live latino dance breakdown ("uh, work it out").

Love the song so much, and the video is iconic: the jiggy dancing, the visibly gay back-up dancers, the classic leg on the step move, the Sabrina and Harvey esque love story segment, everything is all on point. It's like the fairy-tale ending Solid HaromiE never got.

The song was huge here and I remember it generated a lot of criticism for its "abjection" theme.

This song is a massive favourite of mine.

I always felt the video let the song down, it didn't really GO.

we've never noticed before because it looks like a tucked in PILLOW as an attempt to make it look like a shoddy fake belly, it just makes her look like she had 2 burritos and they made her extra sleepy
