Oh just pass the Duckhams, I think I need something extra-strength.
Only if it’s come through our ports as part of our ENVIABLE new trade deal.
I suppose that at least we’ll always be able to get BUCKFAST
Oh I fucking love Buckfast, so at least I won't go thirsty.
It’s quite perky, isn’t it
In other news, I AM NOT DEALING WITH THIS AT ALL WELL
Say more things like this, you're talking my language.
Sex with hun euros dead.
WHY, Sharon, WHY
I'm on the whiskey.
Same. Scotch obviously. INDYREF2 NOW
Rather YOU than ME.
Isn’t it strange that both the UK and US are (or seem to be) split down the middle in similar ways
And the bad side is winning in both
thus ends dUb’s political insight
They got what they wanted, now let’s hope they all wake up today to the feeling of total anticlimax and disappointment, and remain so for eternity.
They'll wake up today every bit as clueless about what just happened as they were before. Their lives will continue to be shit, and they'll have far less opportunity to address that fact. They'll throw themselves wholeheartedly into the next government-sanctioned witch hunt, all the while vocally professing their love for the Tories. They'll learn nothing, they'll gain nothing, they'll die nothing.
Don't despair ladies. The UK is still a beautiful country for many other reasons. You've given the world KATE BUSH, CARROT CAKE, SUPREME SATIRE and THE WORLD WIDE WEB. We know you're not all evil racist cunts. We love you and you make life here worth living
Fucking hell. I mean sorry if you all sat through this yesterday - I opted out then.
I can't even summon the energy to be angry at stupid people who are naive enough to buy into this shit. Or even really the Tories and Farage, who are just following their nature.
I remain incandescent with fury at the Labour party and Jeremy FUCKING Corbyn though.
I’m in London today and I kind of want to see something happening or some Gammon getting irate so I can kick off.
It’s a weird world where I’m ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR TROUBLE
I know it's bad and part of the problem to laugh at stupid people, but today it's making me FEEL BETTER OK
I'm being contrary again, but the sneering and class snobbery about thick Brexiteers slurping down their pints in Wetherspoons and shockingly not being able to reel off legal arguments about the EU's obvious democratic deficit on live TV isn't it, chief. Yikes, y'all.
If these people were so stupid, it should've pretty easy to trick them into voting Remain, right?
Maybe we're the dumb ones, ignoring the failure of a three-year political project to overturn the referendum. The Remain movement was never going to be capable of convincing anyone on the other side in enough numbers. I think this is why yesterday felt so anti-climactic - firstly, because I found the over-sentimentality pretty silly on both sides, and secondly, because I've known it would happen since June 2016.
We should blame the politicians if Brexit goes badly, not normal working-class people who weren't smart enough to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
Except the people who have control of the media these people digest didn't want them to. They were already selling papers off the back of racism and hate so they knew which way to go to get a result.
Both major political parties, big business, global finance, most of the media, academia, the G20, Obama, Xi, several European leaders, the educated middle-class? Even as a previous Remain voter, part of me admires Brexit as a gesture of rejecting the political consensus. There used to be no alternative.
The print media has been in decline for more than a decade now. The frothing nonsense about bendy bananas and BONKERS EUROCRATS in the Mail and The Sun may have laid the ground for some strands of Euroscepticism, but the liberal establishment put everything it had up against Brexit and it still happened.
I'm not surprised #RejoinEU is trending today - most of these people have learned absolutely nothing since 2016. Theresa May was an awful PM in many respects, but she was right to call them citizens of nowhere. They live in a bubble and never bothered to change their approach.
I would suggest switching 'Commitment to remaining in the EU' with 'Socialist revolution' in this argument and seeing where it gets you.
I agree that class snobbery is not the answer here, but many (not all) of these videos don't just show that - SHOCKER - leave voters didn't tend to be big on studying the receipts. There's an increasing strain of virulent racism sweeping this country, and it's not just being emboldened, it's being ingrained. At what point do we stop shrugging our shoulders and saying "Well, it's what the people want..." ?
Tell me all those videos are a parody, please.
1) The Fail's website is huge
2) The Leave campaign broke electoral law and there were no consequences
2a) People were promised improvements and were being told within 12 hours of the polls closing that these improvements were not coming, including the cash injections for the NHS - asking people to suck it up because they fell for a lie is sociopathic.
3) Racism has always been mainstream - the biggest mistake anyone made was not recognising this and kidding themselves that it has gone away because all they had to go on was Londoners of above-average intelligence.
4) If the alternative to being a flag-waving racist cunt is being a "citizen of nowhere" I'll happily take out citizenship of The Void
Oh come off it VoR, I'm a socialist but I'm also a realist. I don't sit on here agitating for revolution. I'm not actually a Maoist, I'm a working class person who wants a better lot and a stronger voice in politics.
Insulting Leave voters isn't anti-racist strategy or resistance, it's just people reassuring themselves that they're more educated than that lot on the estate. In material terms, we have far more in common with "those people" than the ones who run the EU.
EXACTLY this. The hardcore Brexiters (Who, incidentally, are now outnumbered by the remainers if every election in the past year is any indication) will do whatever the Sun tells them to. They're a legion of hardcore remainers-in-waiting if the media so wills it.
These aren't people I have any respect for, or affinity with, so I'm perfectly comfortable in dismissing them as thick, racist old gammons. Will it solve the deep divide in this country? No. Does it make me feel better and give me a richly deserved feeling of superiority over them? Absolutely.
Perhaps revolution was the wrong word, but the point I'm making is that I think we both fell victim to the same basic delusion. It's not a case of "If ONLY these poor uneducated proles could be made to understand the benefits of the EU". Clearly, for a myriad of mostly depressing reasons, they just don't want it on any terms. I strongly suspect the same is true of hard-left socialism.
I agree that calling people stupid won't get us anywhere, but racism IS stupid, and it's currently on the precipice of becoming an establishment position. That is really fucking scary.
I'm not against mocking stupid people who agreed to be on TV. But today only. They were smug and celebratory last night. We were smug and superior today. So long as it doesn't go on. Although I have a feeling the healing hasn't quite begun yet
Fuck the world (today only)
Actually untrue. It's easier to convince an intelligent person about something if you have the right arguments. Intelligent people doubt, and learn, and change their minds.
Brexit, for a lot of people, is a matter of faith. You can see it in those videos, they can't articulate why, but they "feel" freer and more independent. There are no rational explanations you can give to anyone if they go against their core emotions and the foundations of their world view.
Just heard that the venue was rearranged to a local Wetherspoons
