...and why do they announce nominees for "Rising Star" when they've already chosen the winner?

Seriously why is there always a complete lack of representation for women in the best album category?

I’m sure Dave is a great guy, but really?

Look, this year they decided to do black artists to show diversity. Next year the ladies get a turn.

On the plus side minimal Sheeran is definitely a good thing. Still, he has just been replaced by Lewis Capaldi so it is give with one hand take with another.

Our pop stars these days are far too wet for my liking. Bring back the heady days of the Gallaghers, Spice Girls, and Jarvis Cocker.

So the Best Album nominees are exactly the same as Best British Male.

They've never really liked her to be honest. Even when she won for Confessions it was like "OK we HAVE to give it to her now..."

It seems so, they have reduced the international categories to male and female, probably Brexit related.

Apparently the reduction in awards (from 14 to 9) will allow for more performances. Who knows what delights we have in store?

The lack of female representation is SHOCKING! :D

I was going to write a whole rant and suggest who should have been nominated...but then I realised I absolutely do not care enough :D

It's rumoured that from next year they are abolishing the gendered awards entirely. Women may as well not bother turning up.

They've had a bit of trouble with it. When they gave it to Pink in 2019, that was the first time since 2000 that it hadn't been given to white blokes. Also, she's not British. Of course, in 2000, it was the Spice Girls which went down like a knackered lift with the "establishment" given that their Outstanding Contribution was deemed to be their exceptionally high sales. A lot of artists turned it down too because a performance is mandatory so no Kate Bush then.

I think by 2000 The Spice Girls were just seen as a knackered force and people’s opinions of them was at an all time low. The award was definitely deserved, but I think if they got it now and performed it would be a completely different story.

Stereophonics? They’re still going. Are Manic Street Preachers still around? The big 80s acts have got it, but most of the big 90s acts either split up or just faded out.

Mabel is up for best new artist for 2 years in a row; Dave was nominated 2 years ago for best new artist and then again this year. How is that possible?

The whole thing is drivel. Madonna being injured on live TV is the only highlight for about a decade.

It's crap, and I suspect the reason why they have changed the name from 'Breakthrough Act' to 'New Artist' in a slight attempt to cover it up.

Never mind the fact that Mabel was also nominated for Critics' Choice in 2018 as well. Three years running being nominated for an award which is essentially the industry deciding who they are going to foist on us.

Still, at least she isn't an ugly white man dribbling on about love, I suppose.
